Well said. One? of the things I appreciate the most with the national (at least some of their stuff) is that they give a grown-up sound. So many musicians never manage to outgrow their adolescence .. Much respect for this band, bringing some restraint and sophistication to american music culture

Bieber gets corporate backing because he's marketable to other "14? year olds," don't get cause and effect confused here. A pretty little boy singing sappy love songs is just inherently appealing to some people, especially those who could conceive themselves as his 'baby'; it's music that's more about emotion and identity than 'music,' and it's been a mainstay of the mainstream scene for decades.
