- completly illegal in the U.S. unless you have a permit, I? love them and do want to own one and they look cuddly and harmless in all reality, their not house cats, They are killers or can be. These tigers must have been hand raised. They cost thousands of dollars and could end upwards of a couple hundred thousand dollars for food, there's food, vet bills, housing,enrichment ect. you have to make sure you can care for it, trust me i want a snow leopard but i cant afford it.

I´m not trying to "control"? people. As already mentioned, your tigers could be an exception to the population - or they could be not. Good, clean statistics are usually better than "case studies" - experience. And if they actually do suffer from these defects as much as some people claim they do, it would be better to not breed them, especially as it woulndt be much help for conservation issues. You got me so far that I doubt that white tigers are actually purely

Maybe I am not a scientist, but I do know a lot about biology. Most scientists don't actually work with tigers. I see? them, I know them, I interact with them. We are making good progress in keeping them n captivity. I have a vested interest in seeing tigers, both orange and white, thrive in captivity, as the wild is simply going away. I do not like it when people try and 'control' animal people by citing research and statistics that do not hold up in the field!

If you get down to the bottom of it, all tigers have genetic defects. The defects in the white tigers get pointed out because? 1.) They were more prevalent a few years ago, when inbreeding was rampant, and 2.) There is a group of people out there who have dedicated their lives to separating us from our animals, by any means (legal or illegal, moral or immoral) necessary. You are just believing their lies because you likely don't have firsthand experience with tigers.

And yes, there may be tigers that dont show these defects "phenotypically", and maybe OP had the luck to own such. But? when I hear about these dogs having serious genetic problem in most cases I get the impression that certain breeds should just not be bred. And that´s what´s wrong with a venture.

I like white tigers, i really do. But i wouldnt go that far to breed them if I knew they would suffer from genetic defects...which I dont know as you guys keep telling me they aren´t there. Fact is, the gene that carries the recessive white colour allele also carries this strabinism and probably other stuff (this is often the case in specific "wanted"? genes; watch this for example: myspace . com/video/vid/44215931 ).

These tigers must have been hand raised. Heh, watching this while holding my savannah cat, petting him. I hope some day I'll have the money and proper? setup to own a serval. Would also LOVE a cougar but I doubt it's terribly likely I'll ever be in a position where I have enough money to care for one properly. :( And before anyone starts on me with the comments, wild animals can most certainly be pets, they just require a different type of care and facility than say, a house cat.

The dog (Fuzzy Bear) and golden tabby tiger (Princess) have been raised together since they both were babies. They both are just over a year old and are bonded to each other. Princess is around other tigers and Fuzzy is around other dogs, but it doesn't matter to them. It depends on each others willingness to accept each other, this doesn't always workout.

I live in Tennessee, and here it isn't legal to own certain animals like monkeys, hippos, tigers, lions, cougars and some other ones, but we can own smaller cats such as servals or ocelots. :) I think I read in TN, we can legally own elephants, but not tigers. I never said anything about domestic cats, I was specifically talking about pumas (Mountain Lions). I would not imagine that (African) Lions would make good pets though. I am not saying that I would be impossible or even necessarily impractical. And by definition I don't think that I can be considered a furry because wouldn't I have to be pretending to be an animal other than a puma?? If I was a puma pretending to be a Tiger then I would be a furry!
