I agree the vocals are soft and sparse, the guitars are vague, and the drums are skittish, but this does not mean they aren't strong. Miles Davis had some of the sparsest solos, yet he's known as one of the greatest jazz musicians ever. to say so much with so little takes real skill. It wont rattle your chest like ACDC; the "soul" isn't on the surface. The true power of this band lies below the surface which to? me makes it even stronger emotionally. it takes some listening..

Sorry, this isnt foster the people. Its the national; maybe you can't find a way to dance to it, but for the rest of us,? there is so much emotion in every element of this song and this band that I get goosebumps every time I hear this song. Look closer because I guarantee you there is seriously more in the national than there is in most music today, you just have to look for it. You can start with the lyrics and go from there - maybe THATS worth your time ;)

Everything is wrong with the lyrics in that song, because it screams typical top 40 RnB love song bull crap. Lyrics are one thing, where they come from are a completely different story. It shouldn't take you further than? this video for you to understand whose lyrics really mean more to who is singing them.. His point was that there are groups that appeal to the general public, but for those that want something that truly (and not generally) touches them, these bands are for us, and not them.

However, there are a couple of fantastic songs on alligator, such as "looking for astronauts". Also, "exile vilify",? which is a separate single made for portal 2, is definitely my favourite song.

No idea how the director managed to get an hour-long film out of so little actual footage? but it was really insightful and shows just how dedicated these guys are to making music. Really quite inspirational and interesting to see how complicated it is to make an album as good as "Boxer" as well. Could have been a lot shorter or had more interviews though.
