(Continuation) Attending the burial service was a very moving event. As an aside the beach where the landing occurred (like Tarawa) was still covered with shells casings from the battle? at the beach. The shore was also very rocky and the surf was brutal. Just getting to shore and then back out to a waiting submarine had to have been a supreme challenge. I hope this information adds to the history of this story.

(continuation) Another member of our group a former Marine later mentioned it to Marine friends in Washington and from there a Marine forensics team was sent to the island. While the remains we discovered? were not part of the Raider group the Raider's remains were discovered. Our Explorers Club group was invited to Washington for the burial service. Most of us went and met former Raiders who were there as well as several of the former Marine Corps Commandants etc. (more to follow)

I traveled to Bataritari (Makin Atoll) with a group of friends (all members of? The Explorers Club) in 1997 to examine reef regeneration and scuba dive. We spent a week on the island and while there an Australian member of our group found some human remains and showed them to me. As a physician I observed that the femur (upper leg) bone seemed too large to be from a native. It seemed to be from a man 6 feet tall. (The rest to follow)

Semper Fi - this video embodies what that means; to both Marines and American Patriots. It is unlike anything else from the Media. It may even bring a lump to your throat as the Marines return to? Makin Island to retrieve those left behind so long, long ago. We should never forget! The men & women in our military, police and fire fighters are our true heroes. The 99% 'Occupiers' are our excrement. Let us not confuse the two.

I am a MOM, Mother of a Marine, and very proud of my son. Personal experience with the Marines has taught me a great deal of respect for them? The video DID say why, they did not know where they were buried. They moved quickly when they did find out. My son had to bring home the body of his best friend who died in Iraq, I have NEVER seen so much caring or respect given as the Corps does for their fallen comrades.
