My suggestion is? that you would position the ball opposite your navel/belt region. Of course this is always dependent on where the ball is postioned in relation to the low point of your swing arc. In other words, you want your golf club to be descending in both cases, so you might need to experiment a little to find where that is for your golf swing. There is? some manipulation to keep the clubface to target connection, but to start the ball away from the obstacle the clubhead path is vitally important as well. Many people get the clubface pointing correctly but fail to start the ball on its correct path. I have found that this pragmatic approach has helped many golfers to curve their shots around obstacles. To curve the ball enough (and start it on line) you need an extreme path to clubface angle. Having just discovered your website I have found it very illuminating on so many aspects of the golf swing. However, I'm not so sure about the physics on this one. Has it not been shown that the direction of the golf ball is determined by? the direction the club face is pointing mainly (?85%) and much less by the direction of the swing path? So pointing your club face at the obstacle would be the wrong thing to do (unless you are manipulating your hands differently from usual when you swing).

I understand your challenge as the golf course we train our Pro Tour College students at also has very tight lies to hit greenside lob and pitch shots. We teach our students to use just? half the normal wrist cock (45 degrees instead of 90 degrees) so they shallow their stroke out which makes it easier to hit your shots solidly from the tight lies. Love your video - the problem i have is hitting a short chip shot to a tight pin or an elevated pin from a tight lie. My course has? fairways that are cut very low - almost like chipping from a green and for some reason i have trouble making solid contact while trying to hit a delicate type shot. Using the bounce of a sand wedge does not work for me so use a gap wedge but still have problems. Thanks!

I have been playing for less than a year and I am having the? most trouble from 100 yards in. I usually come up way short if I get the ball up in the air or do what I call a "worm burner" and the ball never gets up. I will try this drill when I go to the range. It's a very good idea to use the same method with longer golf clubs and the best way to reduce the fat shot effect is to shift your weight more aggressively to your front foot/leg. Complete your follow-through with your hips pointing left of your intended target. By doing this the? golf club will achieve ball-turf contact and your shots will fly longer and straighter. Lawrie, I had AMAZING success with this drill!! I went 10 for 10 from 105yds and all had spin and? I was getting ball first contact and taking a divot. I was wondering if I could use this drill for all my clubs? I tried it with the 6 and 7 iron and I hit alot of shots dead straight but almost all of them were hit fat. Is there a way to still do the drill and not hit them fat? I would love to have the same success with my other clubs!! I cannot thank you enough.

As with most instructors, you fail to incorporate the absolute importance of the body rotation toward the target (you know, the belt buckle or photo finish). If the body stops turning or slows down the explanation of the release (wrist, arm rotation, inside to outside path etc.) will not happen....period. Most ofter is produces a chicken wing or the "fire and fall back" position. So re do this video and highlight the underlying? real mechinic that allows and then talk about roll over etc.

Here's something I've been working on to improve my release and it works. When your on the range, practice the release by having your right arm crossing over the left, do this without a golf ball at least 30 times. Then take your stance except make it slightly closed. When you swing do what you practiced and as you follow through it should feel like a lower finish and weight shifting to the? left heel and leg. Also try to envision your swing on about a 45 arc or plane. This is a draw swing.

You're right, the bent right arm and bent right wrist as they straighten either consciously or unconsciously help to release the clubhead and golf shaft inline with the left forearm which I cover in other videos I have produced. In this video I was concentrating on clubface control not clubhead control. In simple terms the straightening right? arm controls the clubface and the turning/rolling/rotating left wrist and forearm control the clubface. Thanks for your comments I appreciate them.
