It amazes me that someone would find a reason to ridicule someone's faith in such a loving God. Here is a man that kept his faith thru some of the hardest trials a man could go through and another takes offense. Jealousy is the only reason I can see. And yet God would also? forgive you if would honestly seek Him.

well, with all due respect, in the beginning was The Idea, and The Idea was with God, and? The Idea was God. The same Idea became flesh and even lived among us humans. This Idea is Jesus Himself that gave us the capacity to have ideas. And I believe that The Idea is the greatest of all the other ideas as ideas conjured up by us humans because all our ideas are not everlasting, our ideas are imperfect or sometimes fail, and our ideas can't love us, can't know us, can't even give us eternal life.

As an atheist myself, I hardly think sparing the family from Hades (which he created) was all that noble. In saying that, this song is beautiful - the music is peaceful, the vocals calm? and the lyrics have a really nice element of accepting stoicism to them. If God exists he's a dick, but I really don't care. I'm not going? to be blinded with bias and let my theistic opinion get in the way of this piece. If I do that, I'm only hurting myself by keeping away from the great hymns such as this one.

You are approaching God with man's finite perspective and with that you will fail horribly. When one approached God with the heart of a child (as the Bible tells us to do) God reveals to us amazing and wonderful things! I've been on both sides and approaching? God with man's books and the Scientific Method will leave you empty with a false sense of accomplishment. Wake up like I did and don't be hardened and caught up in the world and man and science like I once was.

My soul was imprisoned for seven months. I worked and appeared to be quite well but I was just a shell, a mess, an excuse for a Christian. Today when I was presented with the source of this hymn, I wept I saw myself in the mirror as this man ...in inner pains, shame and bottled bitterness that choked me so much. I wept like a baby and surrendered my life to Jesus. It is well with my? soul!!! I feel so free, light and happy. The cords of depression has lifted.
