One thing I do know you cant be a true card collector, you got a decent pack. Those were good common cards. I think that Waymon? Tysdale might be a rookie card or a 2nd year card. Island's third release was this fine cover of Jackie and The Starlites' 'Valerie' by Jamaican group The Jiving Juniors. One of the group's members Derrick Harriott went on to a successful career as a producer, continuing to made records of his own in the ska, rock steady and reggae idioms.

If I'm not mistaking, I believe that there is only a few known copies of this on Island which puts it in a mega rare bracket. I wish the photo was much clearer in detail. This is a find of a life time my freind. According to Kreiter the number he claims is 1003, I notice though, this is W1-003. It's very possible he's never seen the record himself to space? the dash properly. However, this is a very rare record my friend!

I'm? 90% sure Crystal is the first. After doing a little research I found out that for a time The Jiving Juniors were living in the states to attempt success. They were living in NYC which is where they recorded their Asnes material. Asnes Records, headquartered in The Bronx, was an American label all the way (headquarters, pressing and distribution). Crystal was also a Bronx label but distributed via Tip Top in Kingston, Jamaica.

Though it is hard to say which is in fact the initial issue given that both Crystal and Island releases came out in 1962 and that many recordings at the time were made with the U.K. market prominently in? mind.

Ok.. I had it backwards.. I thought Come On Honey was the flip of this. Come On Honey is the other side of Sugar Dandy on Crystal. I could have sworn? that I've seen a Valerie/Come On Honey pair up before on Island before. Regardless of being a 1rst or 2nd issue, this Island pressing is almost as rare as the initial issue. Excellent piece of vinyl!

The flipside of this issue, the original U.K. release, is in fact Sugar Dandy. The Crystal release would be the original U.S. release? with, it seems a different flipside..

Excellent sound. Interestingly enough the flip side of this is Come On Honey. Come On Honey was originally released on? the Crystal label and the flip side is Sugar Dandy which I posted about a month ago.
