I fail to see how any of this is meaningless. He's expressing how he see's the contradictions of society. Aren't we allowed to express opinions anymore? Aren't we allowed to agree with opinions anymore? Yes, he ends with thou shalt always think for yourself. However, the 'thou shalt/not' s in the song weren't instructions, but a way to carry across his point - how we are defined by these mighty rules that? are almost religious in their ability to oppress. (or at least, thats how I interpret it)

Scroobius Pip is actually one of the more intellectual rappers and a lot of what he does or says is about exactly the? same things that some of the best books are written about, so 1) you're wrong 2) keep your opinions to yourself if you're just going to whine on YouTube about how much more intellectual you are than strangers.

All I know for sure is that God really is? love. Being Catholic, I didn`t grow up hearing a lot of "hell-fire and brimstone" type preaching(apparently that was common in the previous more Jansenistic generation) and have always struggled with doctrines about Hell and Purgatory. I`d rather focus on good than evil anyway. Never could see what the Protestants(perhaps mostly Baptists) were really achieving by scaring people into Heaven. I guess there`s less of that now though.

I remember this very well from when I was a child. We went to evensong most Sundays. Often this hymn was sung, and, as? you mentioned, dusk was often falling outside. It gave me the secure feeling that the world was a kind and peaceful place. Maybe that is why it brings a tear to my eye now, many years later, when the world seems far from kind and peaceful.

Not sure about your assumptions here - but for my? money. There is a clear "tune" which is divided among the upper and lower parts - the lower when they sing alone - otherwise mostly with the top part. But when the do join in perfect harmony (about 3/4 of the way through) the "line" goes from one part to another, and that is the beauty of choral music at its best.

I've been an Alison fan since she was about 17, before most people ever heard of her. Yes, I am one of the "she has the voice? of an angel" people. That said, she was not in best form on this effort. She was off-key in several places, and her voice lacked the usual angelic sweetness that it usually has. Maybe she had a cold or something. Still, a sub-par Alison is better than just about anyone else.
