Best of any other review I've read about this movie. I'm completly agree with you, the second?? time I saw it was less complex and more vibrant. I think "The tree of life" is about life itself, about how anything changes in any moment in anywhere. Nothing is forever, eveything has a begining and an ending and Mallick tell us these evolution phases.

When I first watched this I was thinking Pitt was an allegorical character of God. It seemed that way because when he left the house to go on the business trip the kids went wild and got careless (which, in a way told me "God" helps maintain control and order). Then there was the scene when the youngest mouthed off and Pitt got angry and threw him? out of the house. I can see how Pitt's character could be of nature and of God anthropomorphized. This movie needs to be approached with the right attitude and mood. Not the best movie to watch when your tired and lying in bed. It's an experience, it's? art. Tree of life is like going to the opera, the symphony, or an art exhibit. The movie takes patience and an open mind...The movie is slow and introspective, that makes it easy to loose the common movie audience. But I still agree with Kenjames, because we both have finished it. I would go as far to assume your opinion would be the same of 2001, as the films have parallels in structure.That film is also has themes of god, creation, etc, but done so, like Tree of Life, through the use of long drawn out and ambiguous scenes.

I'm obviously more open minded than you as I actually watched this movie. I admit to hypocrisy when it pertains to shit movies where the plot is predictable, such as Twilight. If you watch 30 minutes of THIS movie during the universe/dinosaur scenes or 30 minutes towards the end where people are walking on a beach, you would not get any of the opinions you derived from your 30 minutes, wherever you watched it from. I've had times where I've stopped watching movies after 20 minutes (Twilight for example), but this movie is one of those that you have to finish to form a valid opinion. i must admit i lasted 30mins on a movie which lasts 2hours long and from what i gather it is more about questioning my own beliefs and what I think of the world. I can see why people think this film is pretentious. I think it is, too, but in a good way. It draws attention to itself in a way that brings to light a type of narrative structure that I call the "visual poem," which I think is great, because it is a style that needs? way more attention. "The Tree of Life" is one of the most hypnotic films ever made, and it wouldn't be that way if it were made traditionally. It is a film that needs to be seen on the largest screen possible with full volume.

In my Opinion Tree of Life was the best film of the year! Love it or hate it you've gotta admit it got people talking and thats what all the best movies do! I? also really liked Moneyball , Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close as well as the help! Personally i disliked War horse and the descendants as i thought they were pure oscar bait and they bored me to tears ( Snore horse) Although i admire spielburg for making a film like this i just didnt like the film. Well...I think audiences responded indifferently to War Horse because it really was not that great. It is a well? made film, but I think it really missed out on the emotional core. It just tried too hard. Not a bad film, but it is definitely lucky to have a Best Picture nomination.

Hey Grace, I've now seen War Horse and I have to say it's my favorite film of 2011 as well. I'd love for it to win Best Picture, but it won't because Spielberg didn't even get a Best Director nomination. War Horse really took me back to old-fashioned epic movies; it felt like an epic from the 1940s made and released in today's time. I don't understand why? more people are going crazy over War Horse, to be honest.

I loved it because of the great score, the cinematography, the great performances, and just the? overall feel of the film. I never really felt bored throughout the entire film. I was always found the film profound and invigorating. It just basically left me with a feeling of being high I guess you could say? It was just utter beauty to me. One of the best films of 2011. As for the plot, there was plenty of plot. It was just really simple on paper.

Inception and Fight Club are masterpieces which makes them works of art, but not in a pretentious oscar bait boring ass way. Mallick movies are tough, for any one. You have to go into it with? the mindset that this is a stream of consciousness. This movie is trying to make you FEEL and connect emotionally in a way that's very special. Cassidy's album "Famine Remembrance", released in 1997.? (It's long since been out of print.) The music on this album was composed in remembrance of the Great Famine of Ireland. If you think this particular track sounds haunting and apocalyptic, you should hear the tracks "Lament" and "Saint Patrick's Breastplate II", also from the album.
