A woman named Debbie Nathan has put out a book, "Sybil Exposed", that claims that the story of Sybil is ALL lies. Nathan is very biased and is promoting an agenda, so I don't believe a lot of what she says. Oh, I'm sure a lot of what was in both tv productions was not 100% true. But I do believe something REALLY bad happened to "Sybil"? during her childhood to make her have lifelong physical and mental illnesses.

Dissociative Identity Disorder is real. though it's been said that the real Sybil was hypnotized into believing she was abused, no one really knows. It's possible that this disorder could be cured, but it requires a lot of effort and time. Most of the? time, this disorder is not cured.

I think the buried baby was never found. What I heard is like a mix of what everyone is saying. My psycology teacher told our class that Dr. Wilbur did make up some of Sybil's different personalities.? But Sybil did have MPD. Just instead of the 16 personalities Dr. Wilbur said she had, Sybil only had about 8.

Regarding Sybil Exposed.... I do not think the? author is trying to discredit MPD completely as some people say she is. I think her overall point it that Sybil's "illness" was completely exagerated by Dr Wilbur and the poor girl was taken advantage of to feed Dr Wilburs ego and need for celebrity status. The woman that wrote the book followed Dr wilbur's lead by publicizing what she was told was the truth. There were some parts of Sybil (the book) that were exagerated also.

I would say yes it can be easily fabricated but if you have people in history hundreds of years ago that display multiple personalities than that is a sign of it's reality. People who fake DID only want attention so they tell everyone, a real patient will hide it till the day they die or they get involved with someone romantically to? not scare them.

The story was fabricated. Someone did research, looking through the entire case files once again, and found out that the psychiatrist was actually prescribing her patient hallucinogenic drugs. Whether she had the childhood she described is unclear, but? the personalities were actually psychotic breaks caused by the drugs that her shrink was smothering her with. It was a money-making scheme. That does not change the impact that Sybil had on psychiatry today, though.

As noted above, mostly it was changed due to the stigma attached to "multiple personality". Furthermore, it better describes the "disassociation" attributes of the disorder, such as depersonalization and loss of time. DID? better describes the disorder when considering all of the attributes noted in the disorder. Many names for disorders and descriptions of such change as the field begins to learn more about behaviors, personalities, memories, etc. Some are no longer considered 'disorders'.

My best friend? has multiple personality disorder. She was violently raped for hours when she was 14 and we know of atleast 4. Im pretty sure she only has 4 because ive spent so much time with her and we have been best friends through elementry school all the way out of highschool & I recognize 4 but she only recognizes atleast 3. Her theory is this: nobody noticed or saw or talked about the? abuse, so it must not have happened. Tips for magicians who are learning this trick: 1. Practice stretching your fingers and separating them from each other. It will give you an easier time. 2. Put pressure on the packs to make sure cards don't drop. It will hurt at first, but you'll feel more comfortable as you practice. 3. Be generous when you move your hands to? clip cards. Just make sure pressure is there, otherwise you will end up picking up cards. Enjoy learning and making your own variations. I created a 9-packet version.
