Much of the data that we're getting from launch monitors like trackman and flightscope tell us that certain styles of swings create more optimal? drives, yet a completely different style of swing is more optimal for sticking wedges close. Thanks for this informative video Mark! I think why a lot of us cock our left wrist for wedge play is because when incorporating a swing change or doing drills that help the "full swing" like 9 to 3 etc its usually recommended to? start with a wedge and go up in clubs from there. This grooves the swing with a wedge to be essentially the same as a 7 iron.

Seems like a good way to keep the spin down without having to decelerate. Would you recommend this technique to someone who incorporates an early left wirst cock in their full swing motion...e.g. Dustin Johnson? I think it would be? too dificult to consciously alter the left wirst condition for the average player. Thoughts?

Good observations. One advantage Steve has to implement a swing like this is his physical size. He's 6 foot and a slim 190-200. He can swing 75% in control and still achieve great? distance.

In case you guys don't see the resemblance, Steve Stricker has? very similar setup fundamentals as MOE NORMAN. Notice in his swing he has very few moving parts, most notably his wrists and feet. He figured something out a few years ago and it reseructed his career.

He stays in position and keeps posture so well that it looks like a practice swing when he swings. For those guys wondering about distance, he has been slinging it out close to 300 the last few weeks. The fact that he can do that with a swing that quiet is just a lesson in reality that some folks can do things that others can't. The rest of us? will have to live with our limitations.

Just checked it out 14 Tournaments in the past 3 years have been won by the current top 10 in Driving Distance. 14 out of 120 tournaments is 11% so 89%? of tournaments have been won by the short knocker ie 290 or less. Tour avg is 287 rt now.

Such a simple swing, not a whole lot that can go wrong and very little timing to worry about. Always suprising that he can move it in the 280-285 range consistently. Not a super fast rotation, no massive turns, minimal hands, etc, but the dude just gets? perfect synchonization and good impact so he can still move it some.

Wayne as for Steve coming into impact under the shaft plane I think the reason is simple. At impact the right forearm is very nearly on the same plane as the shaft at impact on every pro swing I have ever looked at. Steve tries to duplicate that at address (notice his right forearm is almost on the same plane as the shaft unlike most ) So when you draw his shaft plane line it is steeper than most.So if he comes in just a little under that it would be like most others coming in just? above theirs

Wayne nice job.If you stop the down the line video at the follow through position ( both arms straight after impact) you will notice that the toe of the club? is not pointing straight up (12o'clock) but is pointing more towards 1:30. This is what The Golfing Machine refers to as angled hinging. A sure sign there is NO conscious rotation of the arms.Steve sets his flying wedges(flat left wrist ,bent right wrist) during his backswing and maintains them into impact.His turning body releases the club

right handed golfer talking about the grip. I think that a tight grip is great. I recently switched to a shorter thumb and I feel that the club is more in the pinky, ring and middle finger of my left hand rather than deep in the fingers. This has? helped me a ton in my transition to not loose the club behind me or under shaft plane on my downswing. Do you think that Striker uses a short thumb to constrict or tighten his backswing/transition at the top of his swing?
