Yes but I somehow doubt it unless the new visa arrangements start to hit the business of the big hotel complexes with their high earnings and political clout. as ever though, it's unlikely that anyone in government gives a damn about the thousand of people still scratching a living from low end tourism along the coastal strip that still hasn't recovered after the tsunami.

Having previously visited twice before in 2004 and 2008, I was planning on a return to Sri Lanka for a 6 or 7 week holiday in 2013 but have just had to scrap that thought after seeing the new visa system with its hefty fees and 30 day limit - flying out of the country and back to extend this? is hardly practical or affordable. Sadly, I'm unlikely to be back until or unless the system changes.

This resolution doesn't even impose sanctions or anything so it doesnt harm SL's national interests. Theoretically they can bite through jeans or canvas, but most of the time they end up chewing only the fabric. and if you get bitten, i heared there is a way to take a knife and make a cut right next to the wound? so that most of the poison runs out and wont enter the body. the first two things i would put into a snakebite survival kit would be a clean, sharp knife (doesnt need to be big), and, of course, a cellphone that works.
