The pump does not need to be the 100 watt version. There are lower wattage pumps on the market. A good DC pump would work too. This is 50 gallons. Pondmaster Magnetic Drive Water Pump.

I think you should use dryer? water. Dryer water has less tendancy to lose heat to the atmosphere, and is much less wet in the event of a leak. So dry your water about 20% and see how it works out.

As an RV'er I can tell you that you don't want to use colored water hose to connect to water you use to drink or cook. It picks up taste and? who knows what else from the chemicals used to dye or color it. The black hard hose in your other video is specifically designed for plumbing without bleeding chemicals.

actually, the formula btu/hr=499.8*gpm*(change in temp) shows that the higher the flow rate the better the btu gain per hour :P. More flow is more efficient. The reason for this is at lower flow rates, the difference in temperature between the pipe and ambient is larger. The larger the TD, the more? heat loss occurs which leads to less overall absorbed heat.

That is assuming 100% conversion of electrical energy to heat i.e 0% motor efficiency. If it is a shaded pole motor, it probably runs at about 15-20% efficiency.? So knock 20% off your numbers :P

The Black Matte reflects almost no sun light,the glossy radiates it away just like a mirror,so the Matte will make any surface hotter than one painted with Glossy paint as more sunlight will be collected in the surface to heat it. :) You can see this in practice if you can find any Matte painted car under the sun with one other having the? regular Glossy Paint.

Bet the trick is slow circulation to allow the heat to build in the hose but not so slow the drum loses heat...so wrapping the drum like you said. A temp gun and a lil tuning? the flow rate and your golden!

Got 500' black plastic HomeDepotOnline $30. Laid on white concrete slab took forever to undo coils flat in big racetracks.? 6000 gallon pool drawn into 1/2HP submersible pump (driven by small solar panels and inverter feeding/drawing from marine battery) sitting in swimming pool (remove before swimming just to be safe) and running from 9am to 4pm (when I get home and go in) get a four or five degree rise which is just enough to avoid Polar Bear Club status midwinter Florida..

I don't know if this comment has already been made but how much hotter would the water be if the hose were covered with something clear and housed in something insulated? Another thing to consider is the winding of the? hose. It's hard to explain so I'll have to say that the center of it would be like an 'S' so that both either end can go to the top or bottom of the 'box' it's in.

I want to underscore this idea. It seems to me a curved cut could be determined which would result in? a nearly perfect parabola when the edges are brought together. I would expect two "S" shaped cuts converging at the center of the circle would result in a small amount of bending near the center and more curvature on the periphery. A way to test this idea would be to start with a parabola and try to cut it so that it lays flat.

Maybe a use could be found for the pans. If you could find a way to cook with the pans, you could develop it as a personal cooking/messkit system. It may not be necessary to make a 40" paraboloid...a smaller lid might suffice, and then you just include two--one converts to a cooker and one is just a lid. If the aluminum doesn't fare well, maybe it could be put amidst stones or have a bit of mud rubbed on the outside. ? Or you just put two aluminum pans together so they are stronger.

www.greenpowerscienc e.com This is a 64" spot Fresnel Lens with a max temperature above 3000f. The concrete and rock shatters from the temperature shock. Slowly adding heat allows for melting. The rock was exposed for 60 seconds and the two pieces heated 8 ounces of water from 68f to about 130f within seconds.

HAve you ever made your own fresnel lens? I was thinking of buying a sheet of clear plexi and use a router or dremal to carve a spiral from the middle out. Clean excess plastic shards and dust. Take a hand torch and hit the plexi just enough to remove cloudy or matte finishes without melting or? discoloring the plexi. Hopefully this creates a fresnel.

Sink in water for 1 hour. Remove and allow to dry for 24 hrs. Then you can place in the sun to dry. The water anneals (sort of annealing usually refers to heat) the cement allowing slower cure time and a better cross linked structure preventing tiny cracks/fissures. Bubble holes can be filled with cement. Wet the bowl first prior to smoothing layer as this provides better adhesion. 24 hours is fine if your mixture was perfect.? Most add too much water. Depends on humidity and weather.

Hi, Pure portland cement vs adding sand creates a stone like structure vs cement deck. Builders mix because of cost and also decks should have rough surface for wet no slip etc. The lower the sand to cement mix the higher the strength rating. Bowls are small volume so one 80lb bag can make many. Cement is? endothermic when hardening. once the molded material is firm (cure in the shade higher humidity) about 36hrs. spray with water. After 72 hours fill with water or sink in water.

I want to make the concrete bowl in the video. I have no experience with concrete, so have questions. You wrote (at 2:01 min): "Fill one bowl with pure Portland Cement halfway and press a second bowl down until the cement squirts out. Let it set for 24 hours. Add water after setting and firm to harden the cement." Are you saying to fill? a bowl with wet Portland Cement & then add more water after 24 hours setting? How much water afterwards? Fill the entire bowl with water to "firm the cement?"

Interesting, I doubt gazing into that bright spot is nutritious for your naked eyes. I would even be concerned about my camera sensor. Could you do a back of the envelope calculation how many watts sun delivers on the spot. Maybe if we new the color temperature of molten aluminum and the boltzmann dist of it? we could guesstimate. But there are simply too many variables to factor, ambient air the concrete soaking some energy due to chemical reactions etc. I am looking forward for an answer Thanks

Like the thanksgiving dinner I'm not sure what the point of this video was exactly. You got the glass hot enough to melt a little bit at a time, but it looked very inconvenient and the results you got from it don't seem to have many practical uses. Perhaps it's just my lack of vision and foresight, and? I'd be more awed had you carried the project further. I'm thinking slow cutting, not a high speed spinning blade but something more like a gear driven auger/shear to handle cutting. I saw a total eclipse in Augsburg,Germany in 1999, and it was awesome. I drove up there with my motorcycle from Switzerland, because Augsburg was right on the path and it was worth it. The time for the eclipse was around noon so the? effect was really impressive. When it became dark, all traffic stopped, and in an astounding silence, people gazed trough their glasses, and when the light finally replaced the darkness, everybody went crazy and started clapping hands and screaming! A trivial piece of dialogue that would have been interesting in you demo is the old carpenters 3..4..5 rule when squaring corners. Its basically making a triangle using the geometry Pythagorean theorem. Its almost an automatic response for me when doing such things that require exact corners. BTW interesting info about your water tarp giving way after about 200 gallons (different video)....another nice piece of real life info to store in? the experience chamber of my mind..:D
