At end you notice Jack holding a piece of paper in his right hand, and behind him to his right is a man trying to lower his hand. it's really Kubrick trying to tell the audience the truth, not about The Shining or the? events of the story, but something much deeper and dangerous in his life, in fact the whole entire film is a subliminal message. Learning the actual truth for yourself will for sure put this man at the top of your list as the greatest director of all time. HE FOOLED THE WORLD. smh

The dogman scene in the film alone,is more disturbing than anything? in the book.The party in the film is far better,more ominous and low key.King creates a great premise,but he cops out and becomes really cliche and corny by the end.Everything is explained in the book,what is there to be disturbed or scared of when it's all said and done?The greatest horror stories deal with things that can't be explained,the unknown.King can't have that,that's his failing as a writer.

im not trying to bash the movie, and yur the right, the hedge animals were riduculous. but the elevator was scarier in my opinion in the book, no blood but it would start going up and down in the middle of night and stop? at every floor. and the gates would open. plus the guy in the dog costume gaurding the hallway. and the party was way better in the book

It'll all become clear once you read the book....when Jack Torrence goes into the bar and imagines the? party with Mr Grady, he sees a man dressed in a dog suit with the bald guy who was actually the owner of the Overlook at the time. I also mentioned this because Bioshock admittedly by the developers has several elements influenced by Kubrick, particularly The Shining. The design of the little sisters is clearly inspired by the twins, the score music is modeled after the style of Penderecki and such, oldies are used? in the soundtrack, there are ghosts, people go insane, etc. If you like complex and artistic works of cinema, you ought to enjoy games like this.

You're right, the gameplay is rather generic; however, the cinematic atmosphere, art direction, and complex storyline make up for that. It's like a Kubrick film in that respect; its brilliance substitutes its antithetical approach to its? medium. Bioshock's obviously very symbolic and brings several political issues to the table, esp. regarding its Randian blueprint, but I find it rather difficult to interpret it myself. I do recommend going back and playing through it.

There really aren't any online that actually qualify as interpretations, they're merely deciphering what happens rather than what the meaning of the game is. The only? connection to the outside world after the telephone lines go out is the radio in Ullman's office. I think they put the window in there to convey and reinforce that connection. And when Jack goes in there to destroy the radio you can see that snow has begun to cover it (as if to say the connection is disappearing).

Lastly (for now), there are two unexplained time shifts in the bar scene where Jack first speaks to Lloyd. He refers to "five miserable months on the wagon" though Wendy says he hasn't had a drink since he hurt Danny, which was "three goddamn years ago." Obviously you don't need the supernatural to explain an alcoholic lying about drinking, but I do wonder what happened five months earlier. He also says he was afraid his money would be in? his wallet "until next April" but his job ends in May.

Hey Rob, It occurred to me the? other day that both of the adult Torrances are smokers, but I don't think we ever actually see Jack smoke. We see a lit cigarette in his ash tray, but I can't recall any scenes of him drawing on a cigarette. We see Wendy smoking a couple of times at least: once during the doctor's interview and once when she's rehearsing talking to Jack about leaving. Tobacco, of course, is a native American product. In an interview, Stan supposedly claimed to be a Social Darwinist. Knowing his tendency to play mind games, do you think he was lying? Seeing how Social Darwinism is practically a racist ideology, I find it rather odd that Kubrick'd associate it with his beliefs.
