A masterpiece, of course. But a strange thing has never (?) been mentionned : the guitar riff was created by Jimi Hendrix in his song Machine Gun. You can hear it in many versions of the song. I? just listened to the Fillmore East one (second show, 1970, january 1st). You can hear? the riff between 04:40 and 04:50. Did you guys? know about that ? Did Jimmy Page say something about it ? Maybe he listened to the song once and got the riff later without remembering the Hendrix version...

I used to steal coke bottles to buy concert tickets to? see these guys. The tickets back then were 4 to 7 dollars to see Led Zeppelin!! If they played within 500 miles of Ft.Worth we were there. One night in Dallas the next in Ft Worth. I worshiped this band and still do!

Aha, that's why the whole song sounds so warped and low-tech. I thought it was just? the technology of analogue records and vinyl etc, thought my ears were spoiled. But that didn't sit right with what I recall about my old record collection. So it's just a cheap-assed gimmick of '70s recording studio tech, in an attempt to bring down the nasal whining and ear drilling obnoxious guitar, give the so called "bass" some balls, etc. There's a warble throughout, not just on the granny-organ. Hmph.

stairway is a great song in it's own right, but you're right too. zeppelin has? so many hidden gems that go unnoticed when you'd be surprised at how much you may like them more than zep's usual staple songs.

That all depends on your musical taste though. I might enjoy the original but dislike a cover, likewise I may like the cover better than the original. The original is still the original and? a cover can not be better because it is a cover. Without the original covers wouldn't exist. I'm not arguing or anything. I'm just saying that you can't really call it "better" because the original is the way the song is supposed to be in the first place. It is all art.

That's what happened when you tried to "fix your mistakes" back then... It would either come out poor quality or whatever was there before would still come through. But Robert Plant said, "Throw some reverb? on it," and turned it into something amazing. I don't dispute that Tool is a better live performer IN MANY WAYS, but creatively, musically, as a band overall... Tool isn't near as talented as Zeppelin.

Lol wow you really don't know anything about recording and music production do you? Clocking into a song to fix your mistakes is something that has only recently become available to musicians and sound technicians within the last 30 years or so. Back then, you only had? one chance to make it right. The echo effect on the vocals at the end of Whole 'Lotta Love "Woman, you need it..." is actually the bleed through from trying to erase a previous recording.

well when you listen to Sabbath's "changes" and "laguna sunrise", you kinda contradict your'e statement. Sabbath didn't want to go for the more bluesy tone that Led Zeppelin did. THey wanted to do a much heavier type of music than anyone had done before, and that was appearent when they made "Black Sabbath". If Sabbath had wanted to,? they could have done some of the more bluesy stuff. They just chose to go a heavier path.

Sometimes, musicianship means knowing when to cut the meandering crap out. Phish's ratio of nebulous meandering is obscenely high, to the point of being self-indulgent and almost pretentious at times. I think its funny when they are called plagiarists, because most of the songs they "plagiarized" are based on the traditional folk tunes which the other artist "wrote". But those songs are public domain considering? they are ancient and have no copyright. This is good. None of the post criticizing this cover makes any comment pertaining to the actual music or musicianship. It's fine if you hate phish, but give some credit where credit is due. Do you people have any concept of 'variety', 'texture' or 'dynamic variation'? This cover just trudges along without anything interesting occuring at all, the innumerable amount of variations and possibilities that you could get from the original material is simply WASTED. Because that's human nature. Humans need to categorize things in order to understand them. If you didn't categorize music, it would be one gigantic mess. Everyone would have to buy/download random music hoping they liked it. If you had said, labels like "progressive post-avant jazzcore" is an invented unnecesary genre, i'd have agreed. That's made up by music critics to look interesting/smart. A simple genre as progressive rock however is needed to distinguish different types of? music.

Sweet. Fresh solo. They kept true to the? song, but didn't try to sound exactly like the original. While, of course, the guitar was no Jimmy Page, it did not try to be Jimmy. Like a good cover, they made it almost sound like it was their song. Gov't Mule does the same thing. BCC really should be better known.

Thank You for posting this. We are huge Zeppelin, Jason Bonham and now BCC followers and the airwaves will certainly explode with Black Country Communion's second album coming out in June. Can't wait to review the album and hope to catch them live in the U.S. I went to the? Ahmet Ertegun show in London at the O2 and saw the surviving members of Led Zeppelin play this with Mr. Bonham. This performance was gracious, respectful and the timing gave it an updated sound. Well done, gentlemen !
