BroLAXgoalie you're implying that an open shutter is taking a picture of the shaft bending at two different points in time ??? Look the camera sees what it sees and it's hard to believe you are arguing with a photo. A correctly flexed shaft for a given swing speed always kicks? forward. If it didn't, the additional inertia caused by the ball wouldn't have it kick till well after the ball was gone; totally useless. That's why a higher speed swinger has to slow down his swing with a shaft too soft

It is supposed to snap forward after the bottom of the swing, that's why the golf ball is positioned? just inside the front foot and not in the middle of the swing. Snapping forward at the bottom of the swing would cause topped shots or high-flying balls that don't go very far forward at all. And no shaft fitter for a professional golfer bends as much as is represented in this video. It is the shutter design of the camera, not the shaft.

you are incorrect. Though his shaft flexes, it would be bending always away from the ball because of the inertia of the club head. The only way you would see flex toward the ball would be for the golfer to completely stop his swing in the middle of the downstroke.?

at :33 is nothing but a sign of weak HD camera frames per seconds. #1. when we had regular video cams we never saw this. #2. I have had this happened to my swing to with lower HD camera fames. #3. If you see any of the BizHub Camera swings on CBS, you will never find this. why? better frame per second. #4. Yes the? shaft does flex at the impact. Milli seconds before? it makes contact with a ball. But the flex is very unnoticeable.

Probably a Canon 5D mkII. I don't think the 7D came out at this point yet and the image quality (particularly the vignetting and bokeh in the background). In addition, the frame rate is not? super high. Nice video quality though.

While I agree about releasing at the point of contact, the bent shaft you see is an illusion. This was shot with a DLSR? that shoots video. It can't keep up with the speed of Woods's shaft. What you see at 31 seconds is actually the shaft and clubhead position miliseconds AFTER the position of his hands and mid/upper shaft. To see the same video "slant" move an iPhone quickly while shooting video. He may be releasing early but it's not really this dramatic.

Instead, realize that statements like "forearms roll on their own" are relative to doing everything else correctly. If you "swing" back and through on "plane" gravity does take over during the release, if you let it. Plus, you can fire at the ball [during the release] with your? right arm. Ever heard of the "trigger finger"? Also, the exaggerated "impact" you reference is done by no one.

This guy and a few people here are missing something. The reason anyone was ever told to "hold the angle" was due to the fact that they were "casting" or releasing too early [tips like this always end up as a misconstrued notion]. This guy is swinging properly. If you slowed this video down you would see that at impact he has the desired "angle". And although the hands and? arms turn over automatically coming down [from a correct back-swing], you will add power with the right arm.

Yes slices do happen if you throw your arms from the top, but only if your shoulders start turning before the arms start to drop and you do not properly release the club. If you watch Jack? Nicklaus swing the golf club, his hips are open, but not excessively open. The faster the hips the more you will go right. Ben Hogan cleared his hips fast because he hooked the ball severely, and he also had a weaker grip to combat his hook. Tigers miss has been mostly to the right because his hips cleared to fast and the club got stuck.

Actually if the hips get to open the club stays open causing a push or slice. If Tiger Woods could have slowed his hips down he would have drove the ball much better. You should really pay closer attention to what Mark is saying. It really is an effective swing. Many of his students have had great success at all levels. It is also a lot easier? on the body.

Nice swing, but... a couple of things. You're reaching way too much at address, your arms aren't hanging naturally. That's clearly a compensation as when? you swing, you lose your posture. Draw a vertical line along you bum at address, and see how you've moved your butt and hips 8-10 inches into the ball at impact. If you fix that rotational move, you won't have to reach so much with your hands at address and rely on two different adjustments to make a right out of two wrongs!

There's nothing wrong with his swing. I suppose i have a "future" swing too then cuz I am very shut at the top because I don't rotate the club too much but I still only play like a 5 yard draw. Hi Shawn. Love the videos and the way that you communicate. I? have a question regarding the squat that you advocate in the downswing. My instructor is adamant that I should remain level in the downswing, and not squat. I find it almost impossible to do this and end up concentrating so hard on not squatting that the rest of my swing disappears. Is this just a question of degree or of teaching method? Thanks, Simon

Shaw, I've practice your swing method (hammer, pendulum, kid's swing, etc), it's working great for LW to Hybride. Using the driver/ W3 it's working when I swing (very) slow. When I try to accelerate to generate more power it's ending up in more or less everything. I've watched your clips in regards to driver, downswing etc and tried to? find a solution. Working very hard on this at the moment. The feeling is like I'm "centering" my pivot and getting my weight 50/50 again. For this to work really requires some in depth posture self-analysis.? With proper posture, this becomes much easier. Don't neglect your setup!

Shawn,? I find this is the biggest hurdle I face now-transition. My hip bump/squat-transition move, always seems to cause my head to get infront of the ball and my shoulders to open. This results in some inconsistency-when I get it right its nice, when I get it wrong it can be pretty painful. And this make me want to hit from the top as I get fearful of the consequences-I know the only answer is practice, but any ideas n how to perfect it better?

Shawn - regarding your swing analogy. Makes sense if you're swinging the proper distance, but? what if you swing to far back? You lose the tension and effect of gravity so you'd need to catch the swing and pull if forward. I guess this is like overswinging on the backswing. Do you have any videos (or it not can you look into posting one) on the proper knowing when to stop yoru backswing and how to avoid overswinging? Thx!

Shawn -- this tip probably changed my game the most, especially with the driver. My problem used to be bringing the club too far behind me (and on a flat plane), and the idea of? moving the handle first keeps the club in front of my body. I know you mention it in the video, but is it really OK to swing with the hands all loose and the arms quiet, similar to the hickory-club style? I look at my takeaway and the club handle is pointed at my right thigh before the clubhead has even moved.

Great info Mr. Clement...I worked on this and it was and improvement as far as striking the ball, I understand the reason for the squat is? to shallow out the swing plane. In doing the squat right, I felt my inner thigh outer thigh abductor muscles as I moved into my left side. In making this move I'll be more consistent. I realized in failing to make a consistent squat I was hitting inconsistently.

Because? of what golf instruction has become, I get this question a lot; here is the answer: There is one plane for each club; then there is the plane you use for that particular shot with that club (Ball below feet, above feet etc); so how are you going to find that particular plane? Here's why alot of amateurs and pros are not consistent despite their strength. Watch his right foot lift before impact...that spells trouble getting back to square. Don't believe it? Next time you go to the driving? range, try to keep your right foot anchored through impact. If you practice that, you will hit it square much more often, assuming of course you swing is basically sound!!

being health conscious will only delay the onset of injury for Camilo. That action is going to cause a breakdown somewhere. With Tiger it was his left knee,? with AK his left thumb. I'm not saying he won't have a great career, but he won't be playing golf at 45 if he keeps swinging like that. Look at the vid of Hogan you have on your profile, look at the fluidity in that swing (the later clips, post 48)and he was half mashed to bits but was well able to hit a ball into his 70's+.

Thank you, Chuck. I really do think you are the only one that can cure me. Honestly, I was a? great player. I had natural ability and tried taking my game to the big leagues. Unfortunately, I took the wrong route and ended up being massively confused to the point where I need to start all over again. If you're completely left arm dominant, you'll end up with a? late release as you mentioned. To make it up for it, most rotate their upper torso faster but this is hard on the body and takes more effort, you're best off learning how to release the right.

Chuck, As a left arm dominate player, is rotary or one plane as hardy describes it, a beneficial way to swing the club? I was always a closed face type player and a left arm pull dominate player with no real? release of the clubhead until way past impact. I was naturally a "2 plane" type swinger and had a lot of success. I started taking instruction on getting the shaft to return on the shaft plane instead of slighly above as a 2 plane type swinger would do. I have struggled to say the least.

Chuck, what's the truth behind the way Hardy explains the takeaway and shoulder turn? It seems like in order to stay centered and turn the shoulders steeply, the body gets into a reverse pivot type position with no feeling of the shoulders behind the ball. I can perform your? takeway advice correctly but cannot get into the correct positions afterwards. I played with a +2 HC and Hardy instruction has left me not wanting to play golf anymore. The Hardy concept of keeping the shoulder turn steep in the 1 plane type swing has me very confused. What is the truth about the shoulder turn? Should the shoulders be as steep as hardy says in the 1 plane or rotary type swing? There's something not right about the instruction out there regarding 1 plane type? swings. How does the left arm work up and hinge the club correctly while maintaining the steep shoulder turn? The balance is just not there with the steep turn. I am doing something wrong.

Chuck, thanks for your efforts here to make things easier. The one thing that has been my downfall over the past few years has been the hinging of the club in the rotary swing. I changed from a "2" plane type swing over to a more centered? swing over the the few years and had some success early but since then have struggled with it. The main problem is the hinging and blending the shoulder glide with the hinge. I tried studying hardy and just can't get the shoulder and left arm to work correctly

Nike, it would take too long to explain here, but no you won't "strain your swing" unless you over cooked something. When you turn your hips a lot going back, they have to rotate even more on the downswing which makes things more difficult to? time and coordinate. Minimal moving parts is ideal for consistency and control.

Chuck, can you clear up the minimal hip turn idea? It seems that players like Bubba Watson rotate their hips more and in turn achieve more distance. Would implementing? minimal hip turn not strain your swing and make you susceptible to injury?

is it me or does Bubba Watson seem to put the ball pretty far back in his stance? for a driver. Might be the angle of the camera, but even when considering that it still looks pretty far back.
