Actually, a few weeks ago a class of mine had a skype interview with a producer at WWE. He says that there, and at other larger professional edit houses, there is a clear migration AWAY from Final Cut Pro, and that the pro industry looks at it as little more than an Indy tool. The clear NLE of choice for the pros is actually? AVID, which runs on either OSX or Windows, thus making the entire topic of pro level video editing rather pointless in the Mac vs PC debate.

You obviously haven't used a mac considering macs are the opposite of buggy because UNIX isn't buggy and the fact that windows is based on dos makes me laugh my pants off and I'm a pro and I prefer macs in fact I program in java and prefer macs simply because you don't need to worry about defraging or scanning for viruses it does that for you and installing things doesn't require you to have a good amount of tech knowledge you just drag and drop?

I? remember I used to hate Mac's so much and I was violent to Mac lovers then I finally gave macs a chance and Im on the other side now I have now a iMac a MacBook and a iPhone and Id never go back to PC's even for $1000 and if you gave me $1000 to go to PC's id secretly use that money to get another mac and notice Im using the term PC and not Windows because I have windows too on my Mac I don't hate it but macs can run OS X and widows and linux and any other major OS PC's can only do linux & win

You seem to forget the fact that a Mac is a computer as well. Like any computer you can install multiple operating systems on it and boot? into that partition. Just because you have a Mac doesn't mean you can't install Windows on a small partition to run games. Now if you want to run the latest games inside OS X and not deal with dual booting, there are plenty of ways to do that, but they often involve using an illegal port.

A Mac is the hardware, OS X is the software that makes a Mac a "Mac," and because you can dual boot with Windows, a Mac can run Battlefield 3 and any other Windows game you can think of, given that the version of Windows you install is supported. My Apple PC (an MBP) currently runs three ? unfortunately not possible via "BootCamp" so some tinkering was required. I'm happy to be (at least I hope so) that all that Apple marketing didn't influence me too much into retrospectively arguing in favor of my decision. I wonder what my next laptop might be...

Actually, PC's are also used for video editing? on a rather large scale. Hell, my college is buying at least 5 new computers for their editing suites in the broadcasting section. They've opted to go with PC's outfitted with the Adobe Production Premium Suite, rather than Macs. The use of a computer in the editing world is per edit-house. There is no mantra saying that Mac has any exclusive rights to this field. At all.

No, you don't really have to be that smart to navigate through BIOS and install a third-party program that asks you what speed you want your CPU to be. Sure,smarter than my grandma, but still, not enough for bragging rights. Once you? know enough lambda calculus to expertly code in Lisp and can detail to me exactly why Java's libraries are better than C++'s, then we can talk. Also, many people stick with only one OS. You're right. Being able to build a computer from bare bone parts, does not a smart operator make. However, doing that PLUS being able to install all of the drivers, navigate a non-UEFI BIOS to configure your fan speeds and RAID setup for your HDD's, as well as Overclocking? your CPU...now that takes an individual who is somewhat attuned to the technical side of things, wouldn't you say? Also, real programmers are never stupid enough to stick with only one OS. They'd use them all.

Actually, the cheapest GeForce graphics card out there, that is also 2GB, is the GeForce GT 520, which only runs as high as $60. 8GB of RAM doesn't even run $50 these days, and a 1TB Western Digital Caviar Blue (which is a standard 7200rpm HDD) can run as low as $99. So that's $60 + $50 + $99, which comes out to $209. Building a computer with those specs, for? $650 (or less) is actually VERY doable.

I think you're thinking in more terms of hardware, I have to agree as I refuse to use any newer apple products (I use an 08 MBP) Lions a bag of crap thats cut ties with older programs, mac guru friend agrees. All of mine installed and updated automatically, the only one I had to install manually was one for my graphics card which was completely optional, it would still be working fine if I? kept the old one. Speaking as someone who edits both at home and at college, there is every reason to have that kind of raw power. I have a respectable mid range laptop that can go toe to toe with a basic iMac, for less than half the cost. I have mobility, speed, a great price point, and the ability to do all of the work of a decent iMac.? Not sure about you, but to me, that's value for the money. And not NEARLY as limiting as having something as limited as an iMac.

Also, look up the SAGER NP9270, which is a laptop that can house a 6 core 3.2GHz CPU, with more bells and whistles than even your iMac there. 1. I can easily hook up a 27" (or larger) 2K res monitor to my Laptop. That's the beauty of having a 1.5GB Nvidia GPU inside of the thing 2. Laptops can house CPU's with clock speeds of 3.6GHz and 6 cores. Mine is middle of the road with 4 Cores @ 2.2GHz. Then again, I can always OC my CPU, and, hell, I only paid? $1500 for the thing. Not to mention I have 8GB of RAM and 2 HDD's. Your Baseline iMac gets you 4GB RAM, 1 HDD, and a lower grade video card, all for $500 more than my laptop.

Why would anyone want a baseline model iMac? They're terribly underpower machines that cost more than the laptop that I'm typing this message? on, and still do less. One can argue many things in support of a Mac. But never value for the money when pinned up against a custom PC.

iMacs are not an easy HDD change. The problem with how iMacs are built is that the screen and chassis are one and the same, so an entire process is needed in order to access anything inside of that kind of setup. Not to mention the terribly compact design makes the cooling system (if you can call it that) as about as efficient as a 4 year old laptop. Sorry, but compared to a tower, where HDD's are literally hotswappable, iMacs completely fail in this ease of modification arena.?

I'll probably "go back to PC" from? my MBP. Even though my MBP actually is a PC. OS X does slow down, it does freeze, it does not always work. Macs are about as flawed as any other PC (in that particular price range) out there, but maybe you're not open minded enough to see and accept that. :-) Windows and OS X are both terrible for the same reasons: Full of untrustworthy proprietary shit.

I think its a pretty cool concept as long as they don't waste memory on unnecessary processes like vista. Would like to see them work with Steam to create a Pro-gamer OS; both parties have strengths that would create a worthy piece of software. Haha they're not destroying it. One of the main reasons they don't want to subsidize is because people buy their products, no matter how expensive they might be. I? spent about $2k total on my late 2009 13" MacBook Pro (which included an extended Apple Care plan as well as the iWorks '09 programs) and it's still running perfectly fine to this day. I've had no problems whatsoever. It's like they always say "you get what you pay for." Can't be anymore truer with Apple products.
