Well, you will? never learn karate ANYWHERE if that is your mindset. One of THE best Shotokan men I eve met was an American, Heavy set, 59 years old. He had been doing Shotokan for 40+ years at the time. His knowledge of body mechanics was amazing and he hit like a freight train. FAR better teacher than many Japanese I have encountered.

sorry my bro. but karate is martial art that developed in war. this is a martial art to protect, fight, and even kill? samurai with katana or spear armed using empty hand (judo is designed to kill full armor samurai). the techniques is found in live or dead situation. old school karate they use weapon too like tonfa sai or bo. i prefer stick than knife. its give better protection. better range. not too flashy. and i hate spilling blood.

I have nothing against Taekwondo and Karate, but I do have a problem with the way they are taught in the west. There are too many people? who teach them like sports, not martial arts. There are thing you learn in ring fighting that are just flat-out impractical in a real fight. It's sad, really. I've seen how effective and deadly the forms can be if taught correctly, but bringing a sport to a street brawl is like bring a knife to a gun fight.

Karate is a great form and so is Taekwondo. In my opinion they are both very good. Taekwondo is amazing if the other person knows no formal martial art because in a fight most people wont expect a back hook kick or? a roundhouse to the head. But even in the event that the other person knows a martial art, Taekwondo is still and amazing art in which u can defend yourself greatly. So in my personal opinion Taekwondo reigns superior. This Taekwondo Artist just isn't the best at the Art.

yes thats why I mentioned Choki , he had no part in the JKA kick off , only Funakoshi I believe , and I believe this was his beef with Funakoshi in that he was against all the modifications of the Okinawan Te systems he was implementing. and yes I recently learnt that original Okinawan systems had ne waza in them and u know really it didnt? surprise me at all , brings up another point the BJJ ppl today know that its roots are in Judo , just the Newaza was refined to another level.

I disagree in that I found? the JKA training much different in concept and not valuable for my purposes which are: 1. To focus on combat related training only, and, 2. To understand the nature of all Okinawan training and focus on that alone as they did it well and there is little to improve on. Knowing jujitsu, as an example, offers little as the karate of Okinawa contains enough take down and ground training for the expected. Nothing covers all bases.

I began with the JKA in Japan but turned away because it is now a sport and not karate at all. I studied Goju ryu also, but for some years now I have made it a point? to try to study only the combative elements of all Okinawan karate, so, in that regard I study ko ryu ho, the old methods. The terms budo and bujutsu are interchangeable for two types of people, the ignorant and? those wanting/needing them to be interchangeable. The kanji, which the Japanese language is defined by, are quite different and mean quite different implications. Budo implies there is no enemy and the arts of Japan under budo are gutted of martial intent. Kendo is an example, once a fine sword art, now a stick sport with tournament rules. I'm old too, a Japanese major who lived there for 5 years, and have done karate for ages. Qualifications and age aside, I'm not sure we're arguing the same thing. Karate is indeed budo (at least it was later on). As the last generation of the Samurai class, Funakoshi Gichin in his book "Karate-do, My Way of Life", dubbed his karate karate-do, after bu-do. Karatedo (the martial way of life) became more than just? karate-jutsu, a bujutsu (military/fighting techniques).

Why is everyone always arguing about which is? more effective. Every martial art is a mixed martial art. None of the old masters stayed completely with there style. Some were influenced by other master in Okinawa, China, etc., check history, MMA is not something new. And if the "traditional" martial artist wanted to get in the cage he would train just as the other fighters. So can we stop this debate, and get to the real question. Who would win in a fight between Chuck Norris or King Kong?

Personally, the loudmouth MMA fighters I met are all talk and no show. Now I have plenty of friends that have gone pro in MMA and they are people I consider competent strong martial artists. Frankly anyone below the pro MMA level, is equal if not worse than any other average martial artist. Now there are exceptions to everything but the reason pro MMA is so? successful is that most higher ranked fighters in the octagon are already cream of the crop from their own respective martial arts.

All BS aside as far as Karate goes or MMA goes. To all of those? who think this is American Karate, the karate people can laugh at, you have no clue. This style is the OG, the style you can't find outside Okinawa. This is the style that killed Samurai. This style was designed only for killing and killing fast. It even has a ground game for those Bjj or mma fans. Don't know if this vid is a great example or not, but Okinawan Karate is legit. Just check history if you have any doubts.

Don't forget, they're taught that techniques like that are unpractical and very dishonorable. They're sport fighters, so of course they wouldn't know what real? fighting was. And they think the only practical MA in the world is Brazilian Jujutsu because, "Why would I stand and fight when i can tackle you and break your arm, haha yuk yuk XD?" Hi i have studied Shotokan since i was 3 and know i am 32, i recently met a man at the NEC martial arts show who trains in Okinawan Karate...i was very impressed by what i saw and the Katas i practised with him, its always refreshing to train in different types of martial arts. I think if you are watching Kata you have to visualise the opponent attacking him.? Katas have a great meaning to them and train the mind well. No such thing as a bad Martial art just bad teacher(s) Thanks for Video.

I c a lot of MMA thugs think that Traditonal Karate is not practical. You thugs need? to know you will have no eyes and balls left if you try something like take down against real Karateka. Because ,In real combat, they can rip your nose, ear and throat, kick to your supporting knee, grown so many things if you try to BJJ hug him. You see how often lowblow easily occur in MMA?
