Hi Jeff Thanks for your instruction videos. I'm working on going to the one plane swing. I find that I can let it rip, automatically, without the manipulations I struggled with, like dropping the hands and releasing the club late, etc. I like the simplicity of lining up my arms with my shoulders back and through. Now I have a way to actually see,? looking down on myself, whether I'm in the proper positions back and through, even without having a club in hand.

The person that is teaching me to play golf, tells me to turn my shoulders back as I swing, then toward 1 o'clock and as my shoulders turn, stop parallel above my left shoulder. This is outside the swing plane. What do you think of this method. I should include that this is his swing at 69yrs old. And he avrages 74-76 scores. It just doesn't? feel right for me. He also wants me to start my swing pretty slow then "jump on it" going down.

Being that you may be bending over a bit more, your lie angle may be too upright. This is common with this type of technique. I recommend getting a fitting or simply having your lie angle bent a couple degrees flatter so that your? equipment matches your swinging style.

Magazines & video's are the blue collar way. I can't afford to pay for some guy to record my swing & give an OPINION.? Every instructor you go to will have a different fix, & a different opinion. In MY opinion the best thing you can do is steady working at it & keep HAVING FUN. If your not having fun your in the wrong place. The problem with golf is everyone thinks they have to be as good as the pro's. When really, enjoying yourself is the goal. After all, IT IS A GAME IS IT NOT?

@ThatFellazZz......Stop looking at videos and reading magazines! Go to an instructor that has some video and can tell you what you do right and wrong? and give you the information or recipe that fixes YOUR swing....not that of the masses. There is 100 different ways to cure a slice. Doesn't mean you should try them all. Find what works for you and why and you will start improving much faster.

What I hate about ME & MY habits of a 2nd? year golfer is..I hear these tips like the "Roll-over" golf swing for the slicer & I WON'T try it throughout the first 9 holes because you're suppose to practice ONLY ON RANGE right...lol..Well, I get out there and I get to playing, and by the 10 or 11th hole IF I'm not playing well, I start changing technique randomly! I've been working on this very issue and I found out (after two years of trying for a one plane swing) that the shaft inclination and "tray"position must not change during the down swing. As long as I stay connected and keep turning my torso I hit reliable shots. Jeff is awesome. I want? his swing.

you guys do understand Mr. Ritter is one of the top golf instructors in the country, he has been featured in magazines and all sorts of other media and you are trying to correct his swing. It is? like some average Joe telling Tiger Woods he swings too hard or telling Peyton Manning his throwing motion isn't affective. I mean I am sure he values the advice but he is a pro and a true guru of the golf swing.

We all are entitled to our opinions, but in my experience this is how sports are played. Any video of? any tour player will have the right wrist flattening and left folding post impact. Youtube has thousands of tour videos. Take a look and draw your own conclusions. Best of luck on your game.

At the top of the back swing, the left wrist is generally flat and the right wrist is bent. The follow through wrist angles are the exact opposite with the left wrist bent and right wrist flattened. Impact is in between, where there is still some bend to the right creating compression. In sport, whatever is hinged must be unhinged to create power. Good "right hand" examples are that of a pitch in? baseball or free throw in basketball. Full hinge to full unhinge, releasing angles vs. holding them.

hi jeff, in your other video, u mentioned how that the plane of your swing is largely determined by what the clubface is doing. in my case since the clubface is not really opening up naturally (above the waist) as i swing back and going steep and across the plane, i was wondering if? i am correct to assume this can be largely attributed to my perpertual hook. thanks

I have always struggled with going across the line, never could figure out why it was happening..anyways..started working on this..not even sure what it looks like on video yet..but? Jeff,..is common once you begin to apply this teaching tip that you'd feel as? thought you're contorted (Lower Bicep) at the top of the swing? I tried this with a card to feel the movement and then practiced slowly. Both ways have a twisted feeling at the top.

I go across the line at the top and when I do this drill it solves plenty for me. I get the right sensation of "opening and closing the door." Jeff, this? is one of the best explanations of the down swing sequence that I've come across online. I have suffered from a horrendous slice as I have struggled with the transition of an inside out baseball swing to a golf swing. As a collegiate Baseball player, watching this video coupled with your 'baseball mentality' video finally gave me that "aha" moment. I went out and practiced this and had instantaneous improvement. This drill seems to encourage? dragging your left arm across your chest during the backswing which is contrary to what i've heard from other? online instructors who state that left arm should move only upwards! From what i understand, the swinging motion you're referring to is actually an illusion created by a combination of shoulder turn and the raising of the arms. In this drill you are dragging you're left shoulder into your chest which actually restricts fluid movement.

I know it sounds complicated but i am simply explaiing the positions you need to put your body in to keep the clubface square throughout impact. The idea of the golf swing is the deliver the clubface squarely at the ball consitently for consistent results. So why would you open and close the clubface throughout the golf swing? The one plane swing is not a realistic explanation of the golf swing. there is no universal plane because nobody has the EXACT same body type?

you just dont need to open? the clubface up....if you hinge your wrists at a 45 degree angle and maintain it throughout your backswing by internally rotating your bicep the clubface stays square throughout the entire swing.....then it is a matter of rotating the lower body correctly to keep the club square, but all this open the club up and on plane stuff is way wrong and brings a lot of error into the picture.....

Ok Jeff I'm sorry about the previous comment.? You are absolutely right because most amateur think of left. But I recommend if one just starting the backswing with a soft rotation of shoulders and lift with the right arm and let the left arm relaxed and close to the body and not pull with the left arm, then swinging the club and not throwing the arms should give us a solid hit. Correct me if I'm wrong. Thnx for your good advise. I miss understood your point.

This video does not say that you only swing or even think of hitting with your left arm. There are two videos to this set. One is designed to "isolate" the feeling of how the left arm works in the backswing and the other is to "isolate" the feeling in the right so that people can understand what each arm is doing to create your backswing plane . It's a drill for feeling back swing movement only in each arm and has no? bearing on the "feeling" of what is to occur into the hit.

At what point in the video do I say to point the butt of the club at the ball?? Swing plane is the law of parallels and yes, if you are on plane the butt of the shaft will point beyond the ball as you have suggested. Keep in mind, that this is only necessary in the transition as many successful players set the shaft well steeper than what a perfect plane by "definition" would be.

Shouldn't we have the butt of the club pointing out beyond the ball on top? " On plane" is too steep on top. That "flattening" of the shaft angle triggers the hips to move first in order to clear and setup the post for accelerating the clubhead through. That is certainly what Hogan taught and demonstrated in a dozen Youtubes.?

Likely the player will come more over the top. A slice is caused by a path issue with clubface open RELATIVE to the path-solve the path and the slice will go. great video......best ive seen on actually creating an inside to out swing....using this technique and with a very lite swing (half or less) i can hit a draw 7 out of ten times to about 150 or 180? yards..........when i try to get some distance 250 plus using this same method i push the ball right 8 out of ten times any thoughts? thanks

Hi Jeff. I severely lay the club off unintentionally. My clubface closes on the way back and at the top. Golf Tips magazine 2/2004 says that this closing of the clubface promotes the laid off position... so it is opposite what this vid teaches. Is there another way to fix this nasty position at the top? It? has given me the shanks for years.

This is ABSOLUTELY GOLD. I played baseball for years growing up and I've always struggled at address telling myself not to swing like I'm playing baseball. Hi Jeff, is there a way to take my hands out of the swing? No matter what I try, and believe me I have tried almost everything, I seem to hit or slap at every shot. Obviously no power or consistency. I have hit some pure shots by accident in the past, so I know what a good shot should look and feel like. Any advice would be a great help. I? believe I have good grip, posture and alignment. Jim Hardy does not say the arms should be passive, the unwinding of the shoulders and arms is the main power source of the one plane swing. The hands are more passive in a one plane swing than in a two plane swing but u still? have to release the club in the one plane swing. Which Hardy and Ritter both teach..try setting ur wrist at the top and not releasing the club in ur downswing and see what happens. Ritter knows what he is talking about!

@cjcollas after three year I'm pretty much doing this. Passive arms. I'm single figures handicap although don't practice as much as? it should. I have tried 2 plane swing along the way and there are benefits of both. Always went back to 1 plane. I do like Stack and tilt method for ease but I think is very similar to Jeffs transition. Are you following Hardys 1 plane method ?

I am curious to know what you have found to be your answer two years after you wrote this comment? For me it is arms? passive and they just go with the flow of the transition. If my transition is fast and out of wack the ball is going to be thin or shanked etc. If the transition is right its pure plush sweetness.

- Ok I went to range and answered my own question. When I shift my weight into the spung (from inside back right heel to front left big toe) I noticed there is a natural lateral shift that occurs. From my big left toe I then transfer my weight to my back left heel at impact. I completely agree with the spung drill as you will see any professional golfer load up on the big left toe at the top of their swing (back right heel to front left toe weight transfer). My questions is about the lateral move that must take place to start? your downswing. Is it correct to 1. transfer your weight to the spung, 2. make a lateral shift with your hips towards the target, 3. rotate your hips through the ball. This all takes place with the head perfectly still behind the ball.

I struggled for years with my hips 'squirting out' from under my upper? torso at the start of the downswing. My upper torso would fall away from the target, leading to fat shots, or handsy hooks. What helped me was to create more TORSO TORQUE on the backswing (swing the arms/club to turn the shoulders AGAINST the hips). When the hips move to start the downswing, the tensioned torso helps the upper torso to move WITH THE HIPS, with the torso remaining properly 'stacked' through impact.

One of the best instruction video on the? net today. Simple and precise. Last night i did the drill, i hit two buckets. No shanking. 2 days ago i shanked it twice with a 54 degree from 110 yards in the middle of my round. I have to say there is nothing scarer than a shank. your yardage numbers are normal for our handicap level. I too feel more in control with a bigger club. Most amateurs never take enough club anyway. However , the habit of swing easy isn't always the best decision to make. if you ask freddy couples he will tell you he always swings as hard as he can. He states that he can't emphasize enough that maximum acceleration through the ball is imperative. Try taking? your 8 iron and hitting downward through the ball will increase ur yardage.

well i hav'ent hit a shank in 3rounds hit 79 5days ago and that could have been lower was going down the 13th +2 then? hit 7 on par 5 then par par par 7again on par5 then a 5 on last hole....i think my problem was i was casting....i use to hit my 8iron 150yards with a full swing now i use 7iron to hit 150yards with 3/4 swing an it's great got total control of my ball if feels like i'm not even trying to hit the ball now (feels like fred couples LOL) u should try 3/4 swing

Steve, I fixed me! Shanks are gone and I can tell you how to fix it if you still have it. The traditional shank advice is hossle talk or your standing to close to the ball. Or, your your swing too much from the inside. Or, put your weight on your heels.? It took me 5 buckets and a camera to realize my head moves and i sway! In simple terms I made my head as still as possible and the shanks went away. Now my only swing thoughts are athletic stance, don't move my head. Thats it!

It may not be very relevant but I'm experiencing the shanks 8 iron and up. It's the scariest thing ever. My confidence is shattered. I'm going to try all that Jeff recommended tonight at the range. I shoot in the low seventies, my last two rounds have been in the high nineties. wtf??

actually, you will see many pros leaving putts short when up hill as not to leave a downhill combacker. "Never up? never in" is true in theory but there are times when long is wrong.

The key to making putts is actually consistency in your length. I try to train myself to always hit it 1-3 feet past the hole. Even If I don't make it, to go past the whole is? the most important thing, because if you have the line it has a possibility too drop.

Also think about if you are an aggressive putter or non-aggressive...what line you choose depends on it. If you are non-aggressive and happy lagging, then you must add MORE to the break to allow for the? grain/slope to affect the ball. If you are aggressive and play less break, act accordingly and be ready for those 3-4 ft comebackers!

Hi Jeff. I am a self taught golfer (16 handicap). this is my 9th year so I am very low on technical wordings. Swinging something to hit the ball is very natural to me due to other sports that I play so I didn't have many problems when I picked up golf I had very little problem hitting the ball straight and far. What I've observed in the stack and tilt compared to the traditional golf swing is that the legs are relatively quite. At least it seems that way to me. I am beginning to come around to the stack and tilt idea and I have been more consistent; hitting it on target alot more. As Mike Zubac put it, it is? the idea of swing around one axis.

I'm constantly working on tempo. Use to just "jump on it" and try to hit it long, but that was not helping my handicap. Now I've given up 20 yards off the tee and at least 1 club with my irons and am hitting the ball much more solidly. But...why do I hit my shots on the toe 90% of the time??

Jeff, can I see your driver swing video at front angle? My friend look at my Driver? swing and he is pointing out my head should be moved back, so my left eye should look at the ball behind. I look at your iron swing and notice that it is not true. Is iron and driver swing should be different? In fact, sometimes I do out-in swing when hit the ball, so my right shoulder comes first.
