From the Canary Islands (Spain) Spot on Ross, your tips are magnificient. You're absolutely right about the chili dip shots... I've been chipping since I started to play rolling my wrists and it has always costed me awful? results. If that wasn't enough, I almost developed a sort of 'chip in' technique which is more like a quarter swing shot than what you teach here. In short... thanks a lot. Anytime you drop by the Canaries, let's play a round together.

I have so much enjoyed every video. After watching your chipping video, I went straight to the course I've been playing on. I love the drag in front of the ball and keeping the wrists forward seems to enable this drag, now I only need to master it. I will send you a video of my swing when I am able. I agree totally and teach only that move but. that is called pitching, when the hips engage. I have written much about that move in my blog. Learning to use large muscles? athletically to control the the golf swing is key to all golf shots. Unwinding from ground up, is the key to consistency. This video is 4 years old and is about chipping. Many still like to chip and this helps them. Read my earlier response below to blueterrace about hips.

I agree concerning the fact that there are different visions on how you should chip. And that makes it sometimes difficult to me to find my way to improve. I just noticed lately that rater than keeping my upper body stiff in order to avoid flipping the wrists,? if I add a little hip turn to the move that makes everything easier and more natural. And the results have been dramatically improving.

Easy, but you need to add one thing... start the downswing using your hips and keep unwinding and let your turn lead the handle through impact. Works great!! Use the mass of your body turn to bring the ball out (not your hands) and? you will be much more consistent. Keep the shaft inline with your front arm...maintain the club face and just turn. As long as you do not let your hands open the club face... the ball comes right out, at the target and at the distance you perceive.

This is a great question and there is a simple answer. The shoulders can only do a little chip shot without the face closing or flipping. As there is a need for more distance or more height, THE HIPS NEED TO START THE DOWNSWING AND KEEP TURNING TO FACE THE TARGET WHILE YOUR HANDS ARE? PASSIVE AND JUST HOLD THE SHAPE! Let the large muscles create the power. This is more of a pitch shot. It is the most reliable. Use your shoulders to push back, then hips to turn through. NO FLIP

I just finished watching Phil Micklesons ''secrets of the short game'' where Phil stated most great chippers almost always break their wrists at impact when chipping from the fringe and just beond......your way is more comfortable for me , but I have been studdering and hesitating the? shot resulting in sculled shots that shoot accross the green.....so now im really confused as to witch direction to go , practice the wrist bending of the no 1 player in golf or go back to the stiff wrist arm ...?

Thanks for this video, i've just took up golf and i've had the problem with flipping my hands on short chips leading to the shots being much much shorter than planned or even hitting accidental 'bump and run' shots because the edge of the club has hit the ball instead of the face. I'll? definitely keep this in mind when i go again.

@ cdasher Interesting how good paddler? use different techniques in paddling. A competition SUP coach recommends your top arm to be bent at the beginning of the stroke and straighten it out as part of your power, in a bench press motion. maybe his is a more advance technique. Here's a thought... everyones wrong! There are numerous things you can do to slice/fade a golf ball. For instance, even if your club face is closed and you have good position at the top of your swing, if you initiate the down swing with your upper body you can cut across the ball creating a slice. The video points out one way to fix slice,? it doesnt claim to fix everything.

Sorry, you are wrong. The top of your backswing has nothing whatsoever to do with impact. (Unless, however? you play "dead-handed"). You can have a severely closed clubface at the top of the backswing, yet still hit shanks & slices. People are looking in the wrong places for good golf. Yourself included. ;)

So according to Kelly, the hitter has no club face rotation, or horizontal hinging? If that is the case, then the wrist cock of the hitter is through left wrist bowing (flexion), rather than radial deviation plus pronation? I can see how this works, keeps the right palm normal to the downswing plane, but I don't think most? could get more that 70-80 degrees of lag.

Slicers forget this. The guys a good teacher no doubt, but sometimes good teachers can still teach the wrong approaches when fixing problems. This? guy is correct. The golf swing is not called a "swing" for nothing. It should never be thought of as HITTING. The relatively slow movement of an arm activates a bull whip and by the time that energy reaches the tip the sound barrier has broken - SNAP! By the time your hands reach the bottom, the club-heads is releasing and moving much faster than your hands, think about it. THIS WHY THE PROS OFTEN LOOK SO EFFORTLESS. This demonstration is the key to club-head speed. Practice = Accuracy.

How about the word "responsibility"? Yes, teachers are responsible for presenting the information? (in, whenever possible, an engaging way). BUT, students are responsible for making an effort to learn, and parents are responsible for guiding their children. If the parents -- or some parental figures -- do not guide, the children miss the life lesson of developing responsibility. The education cycle does NOT start and end with teachers and schools; it starts and ends at home.

My Grandfather reported to his unit, the 428'th "Geyser Gang" P-38 Fighter Squadron of the 474th Fighter Group as its Executive Officer in January of 1944 in Palmdale, CA. Hopefully by now you've made a choice :-) but I'd say use what ever finger(s), (and even drum position!), works best for you. If? you are getting the sounds you want and you aren't hurting your hands, then you are doing nothing wrong in my book!

It can. One of many factors that can cause a slice is? poor posture. You might be standing too close to the ball which makes it hard for your chest to rotate and the club have plenty of room to swing out to the ball. This would cause you to cut across the ball (or swing out to in as it is called) and slice. But people like Jim Furyk are perfectly comfortable standing close to the ball, but they make compensations later in the swing to "catch up" Hence his weird looking swing.

That's SO NOT the way to take a back swing! This explanation will have golfers getting into a? reverse weight shift, which is the other faux pas (as opposed to the "sway") that happens. The reason why a hip sway usually results to a slice is because the swing has reciprocal motions backswing and downswing. A hip sway in the backswing is followed by a hip spinout in the? downswing. If there is one secret in the golf swing this is it---- A PROPER HIP TURN THROUGH IN THE DOWNSWING IN WHICH THE RIGHT KNEE IS POINTING TOWARDS THE BALL OF THE LEFT FOOT TOWARDS IMPACT TO FINISH WITH THE RIGHT FOOT IN TIP TOE.

Great job. Pivot is the most overlooked aspect of the game. I think if an average golfer worked on his/her pivot they can dramatically improve their game in a very short time. Having a good grip and posture is all important, but if one tends to sway their hips, meaning not loading properly against the right leg, one can never be a consistent player. Proper pivot is what separates an avarage? golfer from the pros.

This is exactly what I'm doing right now: too much lateral movement, coming over the top, hitting shots fat and getting very frustrated! I played in the club champs lat weekend and shot two 95s to miss qualifying by 10 shots. Yesterday, with some work on my pivot, I shot 80 off the same back tees-my lowest round ever!
