Wow, this is simply amazing! I'm a pianoplayer and sometimes when I'd rather go and stare at the TV than practise my homework, I just say to myself "Think about that If you practise more, maybe you can play Fantasie Impromptu? one day". Good motivation for me!

well i think? his "tricks" do not always work with Schubert (or Beethoven), that's why he probably never played a lot of these composers, just like Bach. This music is not supposed to be "overromanticised", imho. When Richter plays D960 the time stands still.

this piece? may not be difficult to play technically, but the real skill demonstrated from a fantastic rendition of this work, as exemplified by zimerman, is in the ability to have the melody coalesce with the middle voice while having it as a dominant tone. his rubato is excellent, and his phrasing is also top notch. even better than rubenstein's, if i say so myself

Just watched this now. With only one viewing, the combined power of the words, Irons' voice and delivery is overwhelmingly powerful. I reckon I'll be watching this? many times again to fully "get it", as it were. Brilliant.

I think it's? quite obvious that the two characters represent one person. The reader is clearly himself and every night over and over he tells himself this sad tale. I think the point is that he feels the pain of what the reader says every day, never deminishing in severity.

I always felt this was about becketts relationship with james joyce, the two were quite close during the writing ofinnegans wake, and it is believed that during this period joyce was both mentally and physically falling to pieces. Joyce and Beckett would walk the length of the isle of swans near his? home in france (Zurich) often times never a word shared between them, it should be noted that on some of Becketts visits to joyce the two would often sit together in complete silence for hours

If the interpretation of Beckett's play moved people deeply, then why would Beckett mind? While the character in the play's directions is supposed to be old (correct?), there? are some of us who feel very old at a younger age. Jeremy Irons did an amazing job with the text.

I? know Beckett prefered a more minimalist, "colourless" approach to acting his work, but something these filmed versions of his more abstract plays have shown me is that they're really, really effect when the actors are allowed to actually express emotion. I haven't seen any other version of OI yet, but compare the Beckett On Film "What Where" to the video production Beckett himself was involved in. I like to have some sort of human connection to the work; but I think both approaches are valid.

It's because Beckett typically leaves it ambiguous as to whether there are two different people, or that the two characters - 'reader' and 'listener' are actually two aspects of one person's psyche. Beckett specifies that? there should be only one hat on the table. I believe that this suggests that the two characters represent one character, and the 'reader' has been imagined or dreamt by 'listener', in an attempt to find comfort. There is quite a good article about this on Wikipedia.

Brilliant? performance, very sensitive and played with feeling. I do prefer Jung Lin's interpretation, much faster tempo similar to the greats (Horowitz, Hoffmann, Gilels) and she plays with surreal passion and more intensity, only my opinion. :-)

Man this might be the best interpretation I've heard. Bunin plays the second section so well. Its full of life and has direction, perfect rubato, like Chopin himself would be playing. Most other versions of the second section can drag and be boring, this version really? grabs your attention.

He wasn't comparing the pianists talent, he was merely listing Russian pianists. No reason to be condescending and tell someone they don't understand anything about music, especially when you entirely misunderstood their post. I'm inclined to believe? those who go around saying others "understand nothing about music" are the ones who clearly don't understanding anything about music, because they obviously don't know music speaks to people differently.

You've just about settled it. I must say though, Barenboim does a wonderful job with Beethoven's piano? sonatas. The only reason I prefer Kempff is because Barenboim absolutely murdered the 3rd movement of the Moonlight sonata and he didn't make an impressive job of the Tempest, either. On a lighter note, his playing of the Apassionata is out of this world.

I've heard a lot of versions of this piece and in all honesty I can't think of any that come close to this. I think your realisation of the music is spot on and exactly how Chopin intended. Particular credit to your accents on the octaves starting in bar 13, you can really tell the difference? between the bars with accents on the lower note and bars with accents on the upper note - and that takes some doing! Fantastic middle section as well, it really sings!

Yes, I love playing the piano. Sure, I complained and threw tantrums when she made me practice, but it's because she made me practice that I had good results in my piano exams. It's also because she forced me to practice that my fingers are flexible enough to play tricky pieces. I don't get why there are so many people here who are so narrow-minded. Parents force us to learn, to study, to practice, because they care for us. Parents who let their kids do whatever they want are too? lax.

- I don't know where you all are? getting your information, but I spent the late 80's early 90s watching her perform at Oklahoma City University and at our Lyric Theather in Oklahoma City. She was NOT adopted at 12, she was known as Kristin in school. She went to NYC AFTER college, i think she graduated around 1991ish and then was still here (OKC) for Lyric later. It's so bizarre to see people get it so wrong and then act like it's a fact.

The volume's not your problem, I think it's that you're listening for the wrong sound. These aren't? hushed, conversational whispers, but drawn out, evil demon whispers. Instead of being on the lookout for "Psst, pshh pssh psst," listen for "Yaaaa... shaaaaa..." That's the only way to describe it that I can think of.
