I got an Edwin Jagger De89lbl w/ "Derby Extra" blades. I? can't get results. After 4 passes I still have stubble which is almost totally removed by my electric razor. Today by mistake I shaved with the head loose resulting in the blade being slightly lifted. I got quite the close shave! It's not ideal because the head isn't tight & flops around. I'm 29 and after getting tired of multiblade razors, did? a search finding excellent reviews on a Merkur, I decided to get that with the brush and shaving soap recommened (again by amazon.) I wish I'd been able to find your channel first. I had done everything wrong from not lathering the soap enough, getting a good coating and generally being impatient with the process. Having made the mistakes, then watching these (and having the mistakes explained,) has been very helpful. Thank you.

those clippers are used on dry hair&skin and leave no irritation at all since it doesnt pull the hair off the folicle it just cut it too short that its not visible to the eye but not as close as a razor so you dont cut yourself or get post shave complications.Dont try the rotatory ones or the pulling type? or you will feel sorry you had. Haha, to be fair, I? don't even use a straight razor most of the time. I switched to double edge safety razor. You should check them out. A lot of the fun and skill of a straight without all of the sharpening and stropping. Also you get a wicked close shave.

It sort of sharpens it. What really happens is the edge of the blade becomes bent and wavy at a level that you can't see with the human eye. Stropping the blade re-aligns everything and in a sense makes it 'sharper'. What the stone does is grinds off small bits of metal to make the edge thinner and sharper. Two different things, both? necessary.

I had the same problem too. I started using hair removal cream specially designed for the face. I leave it on for 10 mins and? then wash off the hair. I reapply for any hair left and get no bumbs. my hair growth has also slowed down and my skin is like a teenager again. shaving speeds up hair growth.

yeah that's true man. It DOES sting but I haven't noticed any long term damage to my skin. I haven't gotten pimples like I used to and my face isn't red anymore. I'm 58 and grew up shaving with a double edge blade. I just went to buy some quadruple blade cartridges and finally got fed up with the price and ordered an Edwin Jagger razor along with the brush and shaving soap AND 100 Derby Extra razors, all this stuff was only about double what a large box of cartridges cost. I also remember how close double edge razors shaved and the best part was slipping? them through the slot in the back of the medicine cabinet. Great video.

I think? a little alcohol such as in Witch Hazel is good at least for me. Ive been doing some tinkering with different after shaves. Seems to me that the ones that contain a small amount of alcohol seems to calm my face quicker. Now im not speaking of just ol regular after shave that is 50% alcohol but say the 10% that is in Thayers/Humphries.

The knives are made by Bark River. A full convex ground knife has no V bevel at the edge like a flat or hollow ground knife. The convex grind goes from the spine to the edge in one smooth transition. This type of grind cuts very well as it goes through whatever you are cutting with less resistance. You can convex the edge of any knife by smoothing out the edges? of the V bevel. If you google convex sharpening, you will find a page by Reid Hyken that explains how to do this.

Yep, that is all it takes. If you find it is taking too long, you can pick up some coarser sandpaper to speed things up. I would? just start sharpening the knife this way and let it slowly convert to a convex edge over time. Remember to use very little pressure and be careful to fully lift the blade before you flip it over. It is easy to round off the edge if you don't. Let me know how it goes and I'll do my best if you need more help.

Sandpaper around 600, 800, 1000 and 1500 grit will be good to cover any sharpening you need to do. For a quick touch up, use the fine stuff and for when it is dull start at the coarser grits and work your way up. The sandpaper can be found at a store that sells autobody supplies. KnivesShipFree has strop kits complete with? a good sharpening compound. Lee Valley sells the strop and compound that I use. They should also have any sandpaper you need. I hope this helps!

If so, you need? to thin it out for better cutting performance. draw on the edge with a sharpie and make sure all of it gets removed by the sharpener. I have used this with simpsons chubby 2 in best badger, and simpsons wee scott. Both brushes work good. Simpsons chubby gives more than ample cream. Wee scott is just shy for 3 passes with me. Thanks yet again Mantic;Through experimenting I discovered that spending extra time to get soap on the brush and face lathering is the best option, I'll try the other tips out too. i just shaved with mitchell's original wool and it was amazing. I put it in warm water first and it easily went on to my brush as soon as i started stirring. I got a lot of lather quick. Best shave ever. I used to use shaving cream. I don't think I'm ever going back now. My favorite silvertip brush is from china and cost me $30. Apparently the company is shunned for some reason so I won't use their name (I've heard multiple reasons for why from child labor to flooding message boards with spam, etc.)but its quality is on par with a $300 brush I own from another more well known company. I use a normal, regular bar of soap, face scrub from time to time and it works great. But my skin is rather oily, I must add. What does not work for me is soap like 'Dove', where they claim that it 'creams' or remoistens the skin. I wash my face really thouroughly before the shave and I use a hot towel for several minutes, maybe that's why I never had any problems. After shaving I rinse really well with cold? water. I never witnessed any problems with this routine.

mantic, I've got this great oil that works wonders on the neck, but its something of a chemical quandary, and something that I have not been able to figure out even as a student of organic chemistry (just yet anyway). Its the #31-0 preshave oil from Kiehls. It loaded with essential aromatic oils of rosemary and eucalyptus and others, yet its completely water soluble! You can shave right over it then rinse it? completely clean! Organic oils are big and non polar, how can they dissolve?

I have big problems with my neck area. But the wierd thing is the problems completely disappear if I use a Mach3 cartridge razor and not a DE, I have tried several different DE blades, different razors (including the slant bar) and tons of different lathering products and techniques. But I always get extremely irritaded? and can never get a close shave. But if I use a Mach3 its no problem at all, I can even shave against the grain without a trace of irritation. Could my skin be allergic to DE? :(

Forget originality. It's about getting the cut that makes you look good. I would not look? good with those raggedy mohawks people be getting or a really high top box. I get my high top fade but it's not really high and it's rounded on the edges. Been getting the same way for years; not because it's trendy or it's in fashion but because I look REAL good when I get it. I'm surprised I haven't been discovered yet lol
