Dude the? stance is a preference. This guy's mechanics are almost flawless. His hands don't drop, his palms are perfect, etc. Your stance width is a very small part of hitting mechanics, if at all.

Since no one else is, I'll be the truthful one. I'm 18 and my fastball is about 80 mph with a tad bit of upward action. My? curveball sweeps but isn't really a reliable pitch, and my change-up finds the dirt more than the glove.

Never said the stance Pujols uses works for everyone, that's faulty reading. Nobody should ever be satisfied, but different body structures make different? stances. What you are saying is there is only one correct way to do it, and that is faulty logic.

I am completely and utterly unqualified to make judgments of hitters. Tony Gwynn was one of the nicest men in baseball and a great hitter. However, he has very little idea what he is talking about. The front elbow does go upward, there? is a "shallow U" bat path. The hands travel in a circular path. He calls the "shallow U" a reverse "C". The front elbow does rise. Tony Gwynn knew HOW to hit, but he does not know how to teach others hitting.

@SneekyLookingDwarf, Gwynn is the best hitter I've ever seen and was amazing against the Yankees despite his team losing the World Series. He hit .500 in the World Series against the Yankees! ? It's funny that the title of this video is called " Staying Back" when this guy is way out over his front foot. I would not teach anyone to hit like this. Most all Pro hitters have a power C on the back side. If any player had this form at the end of their swing i would? correct it.

@ sadegoGG Listen genius, this drills are for this purpose; to teach the body what to do through the mind. Mechanics do a hitter a great amount of good. How do you think hitter's get out of slumps? they fix their? mind, but they also need to fix their mechanics. Overall the drills are to help your mind tell your body what to do sub-consciously and to develop muscle memory which allows you to hit flawlessly in the game.

I agree 100% 2 seasons ago I had a successful year at the plate but nothing overly sepcial . I had been using the same batting stance and rutine that I had been using for years . However last season I naturally changed my stance without even noticing at first . I would get? in the box , go through my rutine , find my stance and then would open it at the last minute . It was a natural move I started doing and it felt better then my original stance .

I? disagree with Turtle. There is no pivot. The rotation of the hips causes turn of the back foot. In fact, watch most good hitters and the tip of the toe is on the ground not the balls of your feet. The back foot will sometimes leave the ground. Pivot= lost power.

I'm a fan of most of what he's saying, but I disagree with his theory that the turning the foot will in turn pull? the hip through the zone. You will get much more power from practicing exploding your back hip through the zone versus spinning on your foot. Think about it. Core (root of all rotational strength) vs foot.

In your opinion? You're stating scientific fact. Not a single mechanics teacher has ever developed a starting major league hitter out of an average high school player. Mechanics do a hitter absolutely no good, however the proper thinking does a hitter wonders. The mind is movement, and the body is a symptom of the mind. Find somebody who has a degree and actively participated in the? field of human kinetics, and ask them for yourselves what causes movement: the mind or the body.

They use these mechanics in the majors. If You don't all the scouts will laugh at you, you won't get a chance. It looks like they are doing a different thing, but they are not. Faith isn't the easiest way to hit the ball, and You more than likely take a long swing, which in that case you won't be able to hit anything above 70. Could be most college level? pitchers have about 6 different breaking pitches (curve, drop curve, knuckle, screwball, change, & riser) plus a 65 mph fastball which thrown from 43 feet gives a hitter about as much reaction time as a 95 mph fastball thrown from 60'6". The fastball has a downward spin on it which causes it to drop slightly which is completely different from a baseball. MLB hitters have tried to hit fast pitch softballs and have really looked foolish.

I see, you now disregard statistics. The baseball swing does not get proper extension. I have no idea what this means. Hands out quickly to the ball, out in front as it were. Next you will be telling me to stand right on top of home plate. The fact? is, the closer you stand to home plate the more out in front you have to be, to get full extension with the barrel of the bat in the strike zone. Every decent hitter agrees, the longer you can see a ball the better off you will be. Men throw 85mph.

You can keep arguing this all you want, its already been disproved. Everyone knows that the a baseball swing doesn't get to proper extension on a softball pitch as it does on a baseball pitch. The only core similarities is rotational power and? that is how power hitters arise in softball, while that keep their same swing that is specifically for getting the hands out quickly to the ball. It is nice that you all learned how to do some drills but perhaps one of you could explain, using some objective reasoning and some facts why pitchers dominate Fast Pitch. How does this sound... No? one knows how to hit. There are 30 teams in MLB and 34 guys hit .300 last year and 4 of them were on the NYY. Something like 10 teams did not have a .300 hitter....the league minimum in pay is 400k and the average pay is 3 million. Most of them stink.

No sense? The strike zone is the same. The ball is in the same place at the same time or does your? softball pitcher know of some other strike zone, a magical one? The object here is to get the barrel of the bat to the right place at the correct time. The pitch matters very little if the swing is correct and the rotation method is designed for one thing, Home Runs. Go look up the life time batting average guys and then the home run per at bat guys...see how many modern day guys are in each.

The release point and the reaction time have nothing? to do with technique. You get use to both or you fail. Rotational hitting, which is what is being taught here was designed by baseball players for home run production. Do you think Miss Rapp thought this up? Hitting is hitting. The only pitch that is different in fast pitch is the rise ball and if you swing up at that pitch you are dead. The bottom line in all hitting is to come down on the ball, which is why you seem most good hitters in both SB and BB beginning their swing with their hands held high, with the strike zone far below them. As a result most of them swing downward to meet the pitch. Ted Williams kept his? hands very low and at times swung up at the ball but he was a freak of nature.

I would never teach a GIRLS softball team to hit the Charlie Lau? method. It's baseball hitting designed to hit a baseball's trajectory which is coming downward, meaning they will swing right under most pitches, or simply pop up to one of the fielders. There isn't one specific golden way of hitting, but this video shows the core fundamentals for good SOFTBALL hitting.

Man...maybe you should make a video with better information. If you can't..then don't criticize. Also...when you stop listening, you stop learning. The point of coaches is they are all different. They all have abilities that they can teach, and allow you to incorporate into your game to make you better. If you only had one coach your whole life...you'd be a pretty pitiful athlete. I bet if you think about it, coaches have had a bigger influence on you than? you think.

He's giving the tips, you are free to turn it off. Why does it matter what message he wants to give? We have the option to turn it? off. It's ignorant to make judgements based on another's belief. Regardless of what it is, if it's not illegal or hurting someone, just ignore it.

Coaches like this take credit for an already talented team. They throw jargon at ya during BP and take credit for you hitting the ball while you have not done nothing to hit the ball. Wanna hit every ball, key points are to power the swing with the rotating upper body in an upward swing to match the plane of the ball. Once you can do that, find a way to pre-load the body to reproduce that same swing faster and harder.?

If the baseball travels in a downward slope from the mound to the plate, all this 'stacking' bullshit will produce a top to bottom swing, resulting in WEAK line drives that 'feel' powerful but are VERY playable or they produce the pop ups. Actually what he says not to do (slightly bent and? over the plate) is exactly what to do. Your upper body than rotates in a upward angle to the ball, allowing to stay in the path of the baseball in two planes.

Most pro players are rotational hitters. Look at the videos on You Tube you will see pro players swinging just like Epstein teaches. They don't swing down to the ball like many instructors teach today. You want to be on plane with the ball which is coming slightly down so the? swing needs to be slightly up to met the ball square. Watch all the video's in slow motion...they don't lie. My son starting hitting this way last year and the change was amazing.He started to really drive the ball.

Get on plane, yes. But swinging down or swinging up will? give you the same effect - small chance of square contact with only a split second in the path of the pitch. But why would you think that you'll get more popups than ground balls? makes no sense.

Hi shadowhawk72, Ted Williams had a less pronounced "L" than other hitters (e.g., Mark McGwire) because he had a high "happy zone." On pitches up in? the zone, the hitter should not drop his back shoulder as much, thereby allowing his body to come slightly forward. On a high pitch, the back thigh might angle towards the pitcher somewhat, and the back foot could lift off the ground. This will allow the hitters' bat trajectory to match "the plane of the [high] pitch." Best, QP

great video. my hitting instructor are currently working on the connection position We are stuck on the question of there being two swings, or one(for high and low pitches). Epstein usually works that you rotate to hit a high pitch, and lean back while rotating to hit a low pitch. The only reservation i have with this theory is head movement.? It's the same as hitting a low pitch by bending ones knee. In conclusion, I think there needs to be a little more upperbody independence in the swing.

If you watch Elvis? Andrus for the Rangers you'll see his practice swing is that very same V shape you're talking about. It makes me cringe every time I see it. I think he could be a lot better, even as good as he is, if he understood the swing better.
