I remember when I watched a Simple Life, how even though Paris does represent a lot of what is wrong with this country, what with the concentration of power and wealth etc...I found her charming and seemed to have her heart in the right place. ? It is meaningless if the video just announcing? the slow and the quick steps without phrasing each figure clearly and slowly, like the video tape "Simply Beautiful Ballroom dancing by Marcus and Karen Hilton." Firstly danced the entire routine with music.Secondly danced with the slow and quick steps announced. Thirdly,close-up with detail, plenty of time allowed for the student to absorb each figure before going into the next . I found it more useful for myself was to sketch them !

It? is the Basics, i.e. technique and figures up to Gold (National Board) or about Silver (ISTD). I do this sort of stuff in my social dancing and I can enjoy it. There's no pressure from thinking 'competitive'. My partner and I simply enjoy it for the sheer pleasure of moving to the rhythm and doing figures which are physically exhilarating.
