Hey Mike, Just Have to say i love you guys. i love the complex vocal layers and shredding that goes on nearly mathcore type composition and meters of all? of your songs. but? i was wondering, since i also do very essential clean vocals for my type of metal, what are good warmups you use to preserve your voice on the clean parts but still have really good lows? i also do lows and mids and i don't want to damage my vocal chords. regarding visual artists using color: pigment availability has never been a serious limitation? in such media, so a B&W painting isn't some sort of lazy appeal to historic works: there was never any compulsion due to a lack of colors to paint in such a manner. A better analogy would be an architect who resurrected an Ancient Egyptian-style hypostyle hall just for kicks, despite the fact it is an inefficient use of materials and is terrible for creating useful open space.

I played it for my virtuoso degree from the Royal Conservatory of Music (Canada) and I'd like to think I played it better :) certainly with more feeling and appreciation for a intense and beautiful piece of? music. Other directors would have screaming and moaning as these people disassemble this hospital but Tarr boldly chooses silence, except for the typical banging and crashing of things. The harmony of the forest lies somewhere in between minor and major.. Jan Johansson (1931-1968) piano, Georg Riedel bass. The two pieces are "Polska from Medelpad" and "Polska after Höök Olle". I use Melodyne in standalone mode rather than as a plugin. I didn't worry too much about? slight tonal changes when I created my only large choir effect because it wasn't particularly noticeable. I save each? modified episode as a seperate file which I load into the DAW to mix down. I've taken the trouble to listen to mainstream music on tv and radio that uses autotune, and noticed an absence of airiness that used to appear prior to its arrival. The kids that buy it won't know any better.

hmm, interesting. Does it also do this if you render the vocal to a stem track after processing? I imagine it might downsample the audio to get better cpu usage when? using it as an insert and for tweaking, and that'll cause loss of audio definition. Might also be the pitch-correcting algorithm, but melodyne is fast becoming an industry standard used by pros, and i would imagine they'd notice stuff like this.

The point is that Melodyne? chops upper harmonics even without creating these harmonies. I've inputted a vocal track (light and airy) and then saved it with no editing, but the upper harmonics vanish, and the result is a subtle and unpleasant 'honkyness'. But also, even when I tried creating the harmonies exactly as instructed here it sounded like Sparky's Magic Piano. I've found that tight choir creation is better by creating multiple individual tracks with Melodyne and then mixing them.

when you create harmonies artificially, you basically copy the exact same performance and modify it, and then pit it against the original. That will always cause phase problems. When recording real harmonies, each track is a different performance, and minium phase cancellation and comb filtering occurs. Never double anything and just leave it as is, you have to give it some delay(3-5? ms).

Phase? problems caused by what? I've only ever loaded monophonic audio files into Melodyne, so there is nothing to cause it to be counter-phase with. It's this issue with Melodyne that also screws up certain vowels, making them sound as if the vocalist has a bubble of saliva over their mouth.

The problem with this approach is the same problem with autotune approaches, it changes the timbre of a voice and makes it unpleasant and artificial instead of warm and alive. When I hear vocals like the ones you led into the video with I cringe. If you lowered the volume of the harmonized vocals so that the original recording was dominant it would sound much better.? Think John and Paul singing like a single voice VS 3 part harmony.

Excellent song. Stan had such a powerful voice, yet so controlled, A talent that's very rare? in the music industry these days. However newfiefiddler does a pretty good cover of this song.
