I'm assuming by your post that you don't know the definition of "compensate." The point is that they're receiving fewer customers than they would otherwise. You can't be compensated for lost business by the business you don't lose. It's like me robbing you of 1/4 of your possessions and? saying that the other 3/4 compensates for what I stole. in the UK at least disabled spaces are bigger so that we can get our wheelchairs out without being in the road? where we either get your (and other road users) way or get run over as far as distance is concerned i dont need to be closer but someone with one leg might get tired as they travel further for them they may need the proximity for me i just need the extra space im not hating here just pointing it out KMFFI

People in wheelchairs aren't as dexterous as a person who has legs. If they have to evade danger, they can simply turn tail and run, or leap out of the way of danger. Handicapped people? don't have that luxury. Especially people with walkers. The argument that it hurts businesses is faulty as well. If the only two open spaces in the parking lot are the handicapped spots, then the business isn't losing all that much business. It's more than compensated by the amount of other customers.

People in wheelchairs are lower than others. The less time in and space to traverse the parking? lot, the less chance of them getting into an accident. Most of my paralyzed veteran friends have been, or almost been, hit in parking lots. Additionally, the access aisle next to the accessible parking spot allows for deploying a wheelchair lift. There are a lot of wheelchair tennis players, by the way.
