Oh? my G-d i just had a little stroke...I mean Mr. Itzhak Perlman...on Bow Grip!! This is overwhelming, kinda like Van Gogh teaching YOU how to hold a paint brush. Like entering Michelangelo's studio and he just takes 3 minutes of his time to sit down with you and tell you "look: this is how i do things". it is a pity. it helped produce such clean bowing. kogan's bowing is indicative of the russian style and hold, in that his hand is really nearly resting sideways on the bow, at such an angle that his index finger draws away from the stick and only the tip of his finger appears to make contact. the majority of the pressure really comes from the base knuckle and middle fingers. anyway, you play the violin very nicely and elegantly, David. thank? you for posting your videos!

as counter-intuitive as it seems, this really works the best for me for overall tone production, flexibility of the wrist, up-bow staccato, ricochet bowing, and legato. i'm no pro but i can move through vitali's chaconne, the mozart? concertos, the beethoven romances, more minor pieces like that with relative ease. everyone's bow grip will vary according to finger length, size of the hands, and posture. i'm not a professor but for anyone who has to teach him/herself i wholly recommend this

of the fingers toward the stick. it maintains a constant pressure/tension throughout the bow stroke, primarily by using the index? and middle fingers. to visualize this, hold your bow in front of you, arm completely extended with the stick and hair on the horizontal axis, and notice the angle of your fingers toward the stick. also notice that with this grip the fingers do not really overlap the front of the bow but seem to rest on top of the stick, the ring finger falling somewhat behind it

i taught myself bow technique through YouTube. i picked up the instrument again at 25 but was too poor for lessons, and didn't know where to turn for advice. the russians all played better than the rest so it seemed like a good idea to study their technique (hirschorn, heifetz, seidel, kogan, milstein, korsakov, elman). Carl Flesch identified the? primary characteristic of the this grip as angularity: face a mirror, execute a full up-bow stroke on the g, elbow to the body, and notice the angle

I think it was more of the fact that so many people learned of the grip through him, that it has become tradition to call it Burton grip. you have to check craigslist constantly. At least a few times a week. I just picked up a 1971? musser one nighter that is in very good shape and I paid just over $1,000 for it. That is inexpensive in the world of percussion considering the cheapest new musser vibraphone is slightly over $2,000. Then you also have to look into finding one with graduated or ungraduated bars. It's preference on that really.

I really admired and I am fan of Gary Burton He is very honest to say that about the grip. In Chiapas Mexico, the traditional marimba players used that grip? since 100 years ago, and they don't know Gary Burton, they called traditional grip. In Mexico we call that the Traditional grip, and the "Traditional grip" used in Japan we called "Japanese grip". So please, Gary Burton say it, is not Burton Grip, always Americans wants to be the owner of all things in the world.

yes and no, steven's grip is widely accepted by collages? and music conservatories, but burton is widly bcome accepted as the prime grip for vibraphone, as the mallets are more flat to the board than stevens, and stevens grip is not the the "best" grip, each grip: crossgrip (traditional), musser, burtons and stevens have their pros and cons, stevens has wide intervals and mallet independance, as burton has better intervals short of an octave and it is easier to learn...im 15

when i was a field captain i would teach the burton grip to younger players so they could get used to up and down as well as rotational arm movements. it's really easy to learn. stevens is more difficult because you have to learn two different wrist? movements and muscle groups percussionists don't use (rotational and vertical)

That makes sense, but all of the famous marimba? players I've seen who use traditional grip open the mallets with their thumb and index fingers, then close with their thumb. If you watch Evelyn Glennie for example, she always seems to open and close the mallets that way.

Thanks for validating my conclusions about thumb placement, as I do exactly what you do for the same reason (it works). I'm repeatedly gigged on this by "range lawyers" who tell me that's not what they learned in this or that course from so-and-so. I am very much a novice shooter but recently started to be aware of the angle of my? elbow. My outstretched right arm naturally extends with the elbow facing down and to the right. That seems to create a 'hinge point' that bends with the recoil. Next time out I am going to work on getting my elbows pointing outwards and see if that reduces some muzzle flip.

Hey Hickok I was just curious as to which Talon Grip? you were using, the rubber or granulate? @eastofakron1 A .50 AE is an over the top caliber and far too big for practical defense. What you you want is a caliber that you are comfortable with, a grip you are comfortable with, and a decent mag capacity. Home defense means that concealment isn't a problem. Go big, but not too big. I would sugest to anyone,? an XDM. The 9mm has 19+1 capacity and is very comfortable. Springfield got a lot of critical acclaim for the XDM series. Desert eagle calibers are .50, .44, and .357. Don't get a D.E.

Well said. I thought it was me who only thought this. I do respect James and Richard's segments on Top Gear, but there also good at doing other things, whereas Tiff was born a professional driver and should be back where he belongs. Tiff was one of the main people behind 5th Gear, just to make a motoring programme that is interesting. People do argue that 5th Gear is boring and they can't stand,? but its more of a car programme than Top Gear, which to me is a scripted comedy show!

I live in quebec(Canada) and when your car? start sliding sideways at 30km on a straight line and you still gotta drive your kid to school, your kind of glad you know how to corect the slide. Unfortunetly, not all people have these knowledge or skill. And YES, it does save lives to not loose control and hit a truck comming oposite way. Actually by not moving along to fast you keep it interesting, if I wanted nothing but? a product review i'd go visit a tech site... obviously you two are friends and its the conversational style that's interesting... a good friend of mine moved to Ireland and we Skype in much the same manner. as for NZ, yep it certainly has an amazing outdoors that's really accessible to anyone!

I've actually heard the black iPhone 4s' seem to have the yellow screen problem more than the white. I don't know? how accurate that is, but thats what I've read in a lot of articles. Not my luck though! Good luck!
