That scene isn't entirely accurate but that was only a skirmish and you only see? part of it. In that age, the tactics you would appreciate would not have won war. Troops in skirmish formation (the one you'd advocate), though able to take cover and use initiative, were vulnerable to cavalry and could not hold ground against advancing infantry columns. Line infantry provided the anchor for skirmishers and cavalry to retreat to if threatened.

You do need knowledge about the subject. For example without the knowledge you wouldn't know about how many rounds the British cold fire per minute (3) with 2 lines of men. Nations such as France and Prussia couldn't match 3 rounds per minute. A British formation could march forward to a enemy formation and start firing at 3 rounds a minute while the enemy struggled to reach 2 rounds which means that the British line is putting out nearly twice as much as their foe which means? the enemywilroute

How can you possibly think that? You clearly know nothing about how the line formation works, it's about about many rounds you can get out a minute and the British Army at the time could? fire 3-4 rounds a minute which is just insane, the whole idea is about discipline and firing. The term "hold the line"? comes from line infantry well "holding the line formation". A good example of this would be invasion of Quebec where 2 lines of British Line infantry fired calmly in line formation androuted em

I said the Old Guard has never been defeated in its history ( it was the Middle Guard who have marched into a british regiment and taken 10 volleys and then fired 2 volleys and charging and taking the field,not the OLD GUARD). The Old? Guard protected the retreat of the army, until the end. That's the definition of best ; The battle was lost, but they continued fighting. Good day too

I do not believe the Old? Guard have marched into a british regiment and taken 10 volleys and then fired 2 volleys and charging and taking the field, WITHOUT A SINGLE MAN DYING IN THE BATTLE, the British guards grenadiers did against a french regiment and the french weren't bad shots, many Brits died after the battle in field hospitals, but they took there injuries in battle and fought on, that is the definition of best. It is shear commitment to crown and country.Good day

Those hat weren't silly.. they actually had a clear sense. at first those hats made the grenadiers look very tall, this is a psycological aspect. at? second.. cavallery mostly aimed for the head of the random infantry to kill them. those hats made it prety difficult for the cavallery to actually hit the spot. so they hit just the hat.

Somewhat correct, regarding the bearskins of the British regiments. The? grenadier cap originally developed as a replacement for the broad-brimmed hat soldiers wore in the 17th century. When grenades were introduced, the brim got in the way of the throwing motion. So grenadiers were given caps to wear, which had hanging bags. These were later stiffened with cuttlebone stays to stand up, allowing placing regimental devices on the front.

Thats where you are wrong. Yes battles were won by morale and bravery. But first of all were they won by tactics and training. For example, every battle werent just line against line - they also flanked or used more units to? perform a special manuever such as the "square" to fend off cavalery. Also the soldiers who were trained the best played a huge role. Training in marching (Prussia dominated that one) for faster movement and reloading skills for a faster volley.

During the Napoleonic wars. France was allied with no less than 15 allies. 13 of which were European nations. The? other two being the Ottomans and the Persians. They were never alone. Spain was an ally, so thats one boarder covered. Italy was also a protectorate ally. So thats another boarder covered. And in the middle wars. Prussia was also an ally, so all boarders covered. For those quibbling over the images. The tune is called The Grenadiers Slow? March. It is played at trooping the colour REGARDLESS which regiment is on parade. A beautiful moving tune none the less, the video was put together very well I though - thanks. Particularly appreciated final shot remembering our fallen. Proud to be British as always.
