There are better examples of "good" golfers that use the interlock. Tiger is just an average pro golfer now. That's all I meant by it. Here's a thought... everyones wrong! There are numerous things you can do to slice/fade a golf ball. For? instance, even if your club face is closed and you have good position at the top of your swing, if you initiate the down swing with your upper body you can cut across the ball creating a slice. The video points out one way to fix slice, it doesnt claim to fix everything.

Sorry, you are wrong. The top of your backswing has nothing whatsoever to do with impact. (Unless, however you play "dead-handed"). You can have a severely closed clubface? at the top of the backswing, yet still hit shanks & slices. People are looking in the wrong places for good golf. Yourself included. ;)

So according to Kelly, the hitter has no club face rotation, or horizontal hinging? If that? is the case, then the wrist cock of the hitter is through left wrist bowing (flexion), rather than radial deviation plus pronation? I can see how this works, keeps the right palm normal to the downswing plane, but I don't think most could get more that 70-80 degrees of lag.

Slicers forget this. The guys a good teacher no doubt, but sometimes good teachers can still teach the wrong approaches when fixing problems. If youre slicing the ball and you already have a good solid grip, youre either not loose enough over the ball or you? are out of position at the top of your backswing. Probably the later!!

This guy is correct. The golf swing is not called a "swing" for nothing. It should never be thought of as HITTING. The relatively slow movement of an arm activates a bull whip and by the time that energy reaches the tip the sound barrier has broken - SNAP! By the time? your hands reach the bottom, the club-heads is releasing and moving much faster than your hands, think about it. THIS WHY THE PROS OFTEN LOOK SO EFFORTLESS. This demonstration is the key to club-head speed. Practice = Accuracy.

I've been chipping since I started to play rolling my wrists and it has always costed me awful results. If that wasn't enough, I almost developed a sort of 'chip in' technique which is more like a quarter swing shot than what you teach here. In short... thanks a lot. I have so much enjoyed every video. After? watching your chipping video, I went straight to the course I've been playing on. I love the drag in front of the ball and keeping the wrists forward seems to enable this drag, now I only need to master it. I will send you a video of my swing when I am able. I agree totally and teach? only that move but. that is called pitching, when the hips engage. I have written much about that move in my blog. Learning to use large muscles athletically to control the the golf swing is key to all golf shots. Unwinding from ground up, is the key to consistency. This video is 4 years old and is about chipping. Many still like to chip and this helps them. Read my earlier response below to blueterrace about hips.

I agree concerning the fact that there are different visions on how you should chip. And that makes it sometimes difficult to me to find my way to improve. I just noticed lately that rater than keeping my upper body stiff in order to avoid flipping the wrists, if I add a? little hip turn to the move that makes everything easier and more natural. And the results have been dramatically improving.

Easy, but you need to add one thing... start the downswing using your hips and keep unwinding and let your turn lead the handle through impact. Works great!! Use the mass of your body turn to bring the ball out (not your hands) and you will be much more consistent. Keep the shaft inline with your front arm...maintain the club face and just turn. As long as you do not let your hands open the club face...? the ball comes right out, at the target and at the distance you perceive.

This is a great question and there is a simple answer. The shoulders can only do a little chip shot without the face closing or flipping. As there is a need for more distance or more height, THE HIPS NEED TO START THE DOWNSWING AND KEEP TURNING TO FACE THE TARGET WHILE YOUR HANDS ARE PASSIVE AND JUST HOLD THE SHAPE! Let the large muscles create the power. This is more of? a pitch shot. It is the most reliable. Use your shoulders to push back, then hips to turn through. NO FLIP

I just finished watching Phil Micklesons ''secrets of the short game'' where Phil stated most great chippers almost always break their wrists at impact when chipping from the fringe and just beond......your way is more comfortable for me , but I have been studdering and hesitating the shot resulting in sculled shots? that shoot accross the green.....so now im really confused as to witch direction to go , practice the wrist bending of the no 1 player in golf or go back to the stiff wrist arm ...?

Thanks for this video, i've just took up golf and i've had the problem with flipping my hands on short chips leading to the shots being much much shorter than planned or even hitting accidental 'bump and run' shots because the edge? of the club has hit the ball instead of the face. I'll definitely keep this in mind when i go again.

An engineer, Homer Kelley was very familiar with physics & math, and applied scientific principles to understand the swing movement in terms of it's geometry, the biomechanics of how the body moves, and the physics of force production. Bottom line on the golf swing is mastering? the grip, the many components of a proper set-up, moving the clubhead correctly in the first three feet of the backswing & shifting weight in the downswing. Yes you are right, my sincere apology to you, I got a bit carried away with an individual who is Hell bent on blowing a minor matter way out of proportion. I was having a real problem with my driver and hooking the Hell out of the ball, right shoulder was coming over at the start of my backswing. We got it on video yesterday, problem has been fixed,? from address ( ready to hit ) to top of backswing and down and through took me 3 seconds. Again my apologies to you.

whoa there spaz. i'm not talking about waggles and staring a ball down after you hit it. from the start of the backswing (or forward press if it applies) to the end of the followthrough takes about 2 seconds, 3 seconds max. look up any decent swing on here. from the top of the backswing to the ball? takes 1/5 of a second. a good tempo should be 1-2-1, 2 for the backswing and the 1 is the forward swing, which really doesn't even take 1 second at all. have a xanax.

I was really struggling with my game last summer and I just couldnt figure out why because i knew I had a good golf swing as i'd seen in on video and I was making the appropriate shoulder turn, hip turn etc. Just for fun one day I tried taking the club face back a little more shut because i was always missing it right.? I actually find the 'stable release' has increased my distance NOT shortened it. I now feel a lot more compression into the ball and the actually hit is not much purer. Previously the rolling was ok but so timing intensive it varied from day-to-day and shot-to-shot. I play off 11h/c and can honestly say the the Stable release is the way? forward for me with irons now half a club longer at the vary least and my driving is much improved too.

Great question. Why is there offset on irons? Hummm. A big part of the golf swing is about angles and path. So club makers added compensations (offset) to "help" you. This did not fix the problem, just offset it to produce a straighter mishit. Just changing the shaft of the club at setup, your ball position and angle of attack will do the same thing (without offsets). To answer your question, it works? best with no offset. The Key - The shaft must lead the club face at impact!

You pull hook for only 2 reasons. 1, your arms and club are passing your body rotation too soon,? or your body turn is stopping too soon and the arms and club have to pass. 2, you are flipping or hitting with your hands. This closes the face. Answer, use your hips to pull your? elbows back down in front as you keep turning. Look at the video here called the "Ross Move" it is really working great for my students.

Where you finish would directly relate to the amount of speed generated in the turn. If you turn very fast and hard, the shoulders will actually pass the point your mentioned. One thing on a softer shot with less speed the shoulders still are pulled? around by the body rotation to a complete finish, knees touching and totally up on the back toe. This would mean the hips had released completely (good thing). If not, the arms will pass the body too soon and pull the shot.

Well, I was taught the same thing, but found that not shifting your weight and restricting the lower body creates much more power and makes it very easy to hit the ball solid while turning through to the finish (not hitting with the hands). Knowing this and teaching thousands of lessons over the last 20 years, easily convinced me that? this is a much more repeatable, athletic, consistent golf swing. You be your own judge ... Ross

Stronger is easier to align shaft with the front arm. Now, setup for driver is key! Club head and front toe are in line 4" behind the ball. FORGET ABOUT THE BALL. This creates an ascending or upward angle of attack that hits the ball up and carries farther and rolls. You keep TURNING as you move the ball. If the ball pulls or hooks,? it is because you stopped turning too soon and let your arms and club passed your body. Keep turning and Keep Hands quiet during the entire swing.

Hey. how to unscrew a lightbulb, first wear gloves because? if the bulb breaks you'll have to go to a hospital for stitches, they don't give you stitches to take home, well you take them home to use for later when you've done all your bulbs, i once screwed a bulb in too tight ( one of them curly ones ) did you know that curly ones dont get hot like a normal bulb so you don't need your gloves on really, well you could if you wanted to and then go do some gardening i spose.

HEY. did you know a rabbit has big hind feet so he can sit and eat at the same time, but only weeds that is because weeds grow higher than grass so he has to nibble things slowley until he is full, some rabbits are never full so they nibble at anything close, why run arround empty when the weeds are handy ? rabbits by the way can run? faster than a horse if he is scared maybe.

It can. One of many factors that can cause a slice is poor posture. You might be standing too close to the ball which makes? it hard for your chest to rotate and the club have plenty of room to swing out to the ball. This would cause you to cut across the ball (or swing out to in as it is called) and slice. But people like Jim Furyk are perfectly comfortable standing close to the ball, but they make compensations later in the swing to "catch up" Hence his weird looking swing.

I like the 'train track' idea Charlie, to get you hitting down on the ball slightly. This is something I need to do, as most of my longer irons just keep on running once they hit the ground, which means? I have to plan for that inmy approach shots. awsome, ive only just staeted playing golf, and i had a game today on a short hole course, i found that when i did focus on impacting the ball and allowing the club to do the work i had a much better shot, but other times i wasnt so lucky, but im working on it cause i enjoy the game more, thanks for? the tip and i will check out your site thanks!

Great job. ? Pivot is the most overlooked aspect of the game. I think if an average golfer worked on his/her pivot they can dramatically improve their game in a very short time. Having a good grip and posture is all important, but if one tends to sway their hips, meaning not loading properly against the right leg, one can never be a consistent player. Proper pivot is what separates an avarage golfer from the pros.

This is exactly? what I'm doing right now: too much lateral movement, coming over the top, hitting shots fat and getting very frustrated! I played in the club champs lat weekend and shot two 95s to miss qualifying by 10 shots. Yesterday, with some work on my pivot, I shot 80 off the same back tees-my lowest round ever! I can play ping pong in the Sun. Golf is not enough action. Not saying it isn't difficult. IN fact the swing is not natural to the body. YOu have to twist a certain way. Chipping green is FREE, so is the putting green. If you are broke, just? sneak onto the back nine. Once you start knowing how to hit the ball in order for it to do a certain path, man you will get hooked. You can play ping pong very good after 50 hours. Golf is? so expensive and when you hit the ball off the T and is the walk to hit the ball again exciting? I taught my son tennis for four years about 2,000 hours in lessons. I say play ping pong, badminton,darts and leave the tennis and golf alone. It will take you 4,000 hours to become good at golf and tennnis. Is it worth it? No way.
