There are better examples of "good" golfers that use the interlock. Tiger is just an average pro golfer now. That's all I meant by it. You realize this video was made when Tiger was? pretty good, he is not anymore... a simple overdub (replace Tiger with Rory maybe). Or say, Tiger used it when he was really god (not a typo).

Just to say that a grip with no? knuckles of the left hand showing is a very WEAK grip. Three knuckles showing is a STRONG grip. '2PieceNaBiscut' had a bad slice because he was using a very weak grip and is a typical result of using such a grip. To combat a slice turning the grip so that 2-3 knuckles show might help, but there might be other set-up issues too. Most pro's have a neutral to strong grip at address.

I agree this was a great starting point. One of the? pros at my local taught me to cross my left index finger and right pinky, however I found that my hands got rather sore. It did improve my shots though.

You're right that there is no "one world grip," however this is a great starting point. My grip was always "strong," no knuckles showing. Because of this I had a bad slice that I compensated with my swing path. I would hit the ball straight with low angle clubs but had problems with high angle clubs. If I had just used this grip in the first place it would have taken 9 months of swing tinkering away and I'd be a much better golfer? today.

But for the people below we yeah most golf pros are saying use a stronger grip but maybe the greatest ball striker? of all time (ben hogan) used a completely nuetral one. The V was pointed at his chin. I duff and slice all my shots like that so I prefer a slightly strong grip

I know a guy who plays that way and is a great player...hits darts all day long but suffers when he needs a little touch around the green. I am sure if you talk to any player? who has been around awhile has come across a guy like this-as a novice golfer I wouldn't recommend that grip. Here's the best tip for the grip...whatever grip you choose-strong,neutral or weak - make sure your bottom hand mirrors the top by having your palms are always facing eachother at address. is a right handed person wasting their time when using the interlocking grip (i know its not mentioned in this video but i'm gonna ask anyways) with the left hand below the right hand? I'm just a beginner and this is how i seem to have found myself holding it. Also, all i have been playing so far is mainly pitch and putt so i wonder if using this unorthodox interlocking grip will be? a hinderence when i go on to try real golf and try get some real distance... ???

Hey CdnGulfa, in short, if you're grip is strong at address, you have to compensate for? it somewhere on the downswing in order to square the club at impact. Neutral is great as it usually doesn't require a "fix" somewhere in the swing to square everything. Since the majority of the population suffers from a slice, generally a stronger grip is considered more "common". Thanks a lot for the comment!

I used to "palm" my grip for nearly 3 years of golf and that always equated to inconsistent swings and extreme slicing. This all changed when? I learned to properly grip a few weeks ago using the fingers like mentioned in the video and I can't express just how much it has improved my game. In addition, gotta say I actually enjoy myself out in the field now.

the only question i have here is that by putting the club between the top of the palm and the fingers on the left hand (for a right handed golfer) wouldn't that naturally make the top hand a touch on the stronger side? also i've? been noticing the top hand of a lot of tour players: mcilroy, rose etc is more on the strongish side, 2.5 - 3 knuckles and obviously they're hitting it great???

Hi Mark Great video and it makes perfect? sense. I play off 9 but have always struggled with high over draws as I call them. I'm now pulling through the shot rather than using the right arm..just can't understand why Ben Hogan wanted 3 right arms? Can you clarify that by weakening the left hand you pull through the shot. Mark, you have a real talent for spotting the subtle flaws that seem to have major impact on beginners like me. First was the proper rotation in "Backswing Body Turn For Straighter Golf Shots", which really helped me a lot. On this one, I thought I had a pretty good neutral grip. However, I have been hitting left a lot. Turns out I? had a strong grip with the right hand. This video has help me fix that. Thanks again for some really great instruction!

I thought a neutral swing i.e. in to square to in. with a strong grip? i.e. closed clubface, that will give you a draw not a pull. If your pulling it, you must have a out to in swing with a closed club face, thats not a neutral swing. 7:22

Great lesson Mark. Very hard to change your grip when it's been strong for years. I found it really difficult. One thing that helped me was a Leadbetter grip trainer. You can buy a club pre-fitted with one of? these for about £10-£15. Are there any training aids out there you would recommend to help you take the correct grip?

Hi Mark, This is spot on to my problem I am having right now with my game. I have rather large hands (XXL Glove) when I finish my swing the club-face is closed. I Have re gripped my clubs tried the Cross Line Jumbo, Winlite Midsize built up with tape, and still the same issue. I recently tried the Jumbo Max on a 7 Iron it has stop the severe hook but I am? not happy with the shot shape. Is there any suggestion in terms of grip size in relation to my issue? Thanks DB

It is a real chicken and egg situation with the grip. Sometimes I catch myself changing my grip to compensate? for another problem; set up, swing plane etc. I have learned that to change from the correct grip is to take two steps back, for i will have to fix the original problem and the grip. And when you change your grip it has a outside the comfort zone feeling and really requires a leap of faith to commit too.

you are so right!! i use a neutral grip also. everybody always tells me that i'm using a weak grip but the V's on my fingers point up to my chin. But the another important thing what people dont realize also is grip pressure. i used to grip the club at probably 8(10 being the strongest). couldnt release the club face and always blocking cause? i was afraid of a pull. then i changed my grip pressure to probably a 4 or 5 and KABOOM!! Total BOMB Release!! its crazy what a light grip pressure can do!

I had a strong grip then I changed to a neutral grip. I sometimes still? have a strong grip with my driver because you play the driver of of your front foot it is hareder for me to change, It is more of a stretch. My bad shot with my driver goes right not left though.

Hi RoseAussie: If you don't hold the grip in your fingers you will tend to slice or pull slice the ball because you aren't able to get the clubface back to a square position. Usually the body will try to help you with direction so you develop a pull slice. These shots can land in the fairway but create that banana ball (starts left and slices to the right). If you do use this grip your shots have a better chance to go? straighter. Thanks!

Great Video. I have been battling a slice for years. I just tried the grip and went to the range and was hitting Draws!!! The key is the left hand. Hold it in the fingers. Yes, you can put 1 strip down the middle or you can spiral it down the shaft.? It does not need to be more than 5-7 inches long.. and make sure to put a extra piece of tape at the end of the shaft, like when i twist the extra part of the tape. if you need more help, i will post another video for you. thanks.

good observation, but when you pop the end of the tape, it usually takes about 45 mins to 1 hour to dry, but around 6 hours cure completely. you can swing the club after about 20-30 mins if its not a? full swing.

This works. What you have to do in order to really get it work 100% is avoiding to make a "handshake" move (turning? the left hand over left) going through the ball, since this will shut your club face early. Either this, or laterally push your hips with a little more agression. Either way works.

not good advice? imo. the reason people slice is because they cast the club and come over the topwith their downswing. if you take a 3 to 4 knuckle strong grip and come over the top you are going to see the ball go seriously right to left.but it will start online and end up 20 yards left of the fairway-if you are lucky! tracking the club inside on the downswing, getting your hands working from a neutral grip is the only correct cure.

This is a quick and dirty fix. If you are slicing, you have an out to in swing or your release is not right. You need to get that fixed so you can draw the ball, with a weak? grip. But this is a good temporary fix.
