The gladiator one is backwards. Thumbs up would mean the audience wanted the loser? to die and the thumbs down meant they didn't want him to die. Eh, I dunno it might be a personal preference, I have a much harder time drawing from a photo than I do from life. But even so, if you set up properly for life drawing? you shouldn't have to look too far away; it's always best to keep both the model and your paper in sight, in peripherals if nothing else.

@potatopandaYes i completely agree. But sometimes you want to capture the qualities of the person in your gesture. Its not like your going to make a tall gesture if you saw a? dwarf like person. You would try to make the gesture similar to the subject. I guess what i was really trying to say is, its a lot easer to draw a gesture when the subject is exactly next to your hand rather than observing a subject in real life. In real, you look away from your page, but in this, you simply tilt the eye.

The height of the sketch versus the height of the model in the picture isn't the same for starters, but more importantly gesture drawings aren't supposed to have perfect proportions. All you want to do is capture the movement? of the pose, from life or photo doesn't matter. It can be all out of whack and disproportionate but if you get that energy on the paper, you did it right.

I think some of this is physiological analysis because the majority of the gestures listed here are not what I would consider normal hand gestures. I know that if someone watched this, then watched me they would be totally confused on what I was feeling. I think facial expressions, for these feelings, are much more accurate than hand Gestures? ie Raised eyebrows and pursed lips for incredulity. Also she mentions how to gestures for lying. I guess I lie alot b/c I do those all the time.

is right - Gesture drawing can be a hell of a lot neater than this if you exercise your pencil pressure correctly. I therefore wouldn't always describe this as aggressive. I've found that the 'randomness' of your mark making when practicing this helps you to define the marks you actually want in relation to the ones you don't; you apply more pressure? once you're sure. I love gesture drawing but this is a bad tutorial - this is? overly worked and looks like a dirty mess. Maybe try a HB as opposed to something much softer. Check out Giacometti's drawings and other tutorials on here. I have watched some decent ones.

Gesture drawing is very important and essintental to an serious artist. But I hate the way this guy explains it. he doesn't ready go over the core fundamentals of gesture and why it is important. With gesture one can achieve more life and sense of movement in there drawing. BTW, On a side note? not all gesture is this messy, it depends on the artist. This would work much better with 4 cameras focusing in on a point a few feet from the screen. It would give much more accurate feedback. This two camera method can't pick up the motions well enough. Either that, or use? a coloured ring like Microsoft's Project Natal is rumored to be using and this would work much better.

Wow, that could be? nice. Textbooks are so straighforward and lack so much. Not sure if it would be useful now but to clarify on a gesture. The A ok gesture in France means you are worthless (worth 0 litterally). But it's often done with the all fingers in the "o" shape. I'm from Canada but the French part of it so we still have many gestures from back when Canada was first colonised by France... like kisses ans such (kissing on the hand is seen as a romantic move rarely seen nowadays).

I connected my Kinect and usb-uirt to my Mac Mini. My code i integrated wit OpenNI to detect the skeleton and I've programed it to find some specific gestures. The code will then send pre-recorded IR signals to the TV to Switch it on/off and change volume and channels on my set-top box. code42tiger.blogspot .com

The best thing for this is manafacturers can plug in directly a Kinect in universally to any usb device including tv's to control that device then getting? rid of the remote control. Because the technology behind IR remotes dates back to the 1970's and the Kinect is the perfect device to replace remote controls.

I saw your video and it needs the user to stand in the right distance from the TV/Device and I understand you have filtered out the nearest objects on? Kinect depth map. Unless you have a very efficient, and self-learning background removal algorithm, you won't be able to achieve the same effect at all distances.

linux has better features built in, like 2 finger scrolling, double finger tap as middle click, triple finger tap as right-cick, and being able to do the chiral motion in any portion of the trackpad you want. the only thing it doesn't come with is the pinch? feature, which is installable with some work

No, some versions of Linux have it installed already. For Windows users, I heard? that it depends on the company that manufactures your laptop. They decide which Synaptic driver your touchpad works with. I tried downloading the Envy 133's touchpad driver (which has pinch, circular scrolling, and others) on my laptop but it didn't work. So I think it is some kind of hardware lock.

Thank you for this. I just bought an Acer Aspire One. It kept doing the ChiralMotion thing and scrolling when I didn't want to and vice versa. Nowhere in the user guide or on? the Acer or Synaptics websites did they explain how to use it. You just did in a few seconds.
