Its mentioned that " any water not turned into steam is heated.." -question : is there any use of "existing energy fluids : gas or oil " that is used to "heat water or steam" in this process-at all ? ( because I am thinking - this geothermal energy shouldn't have to use any thing "to heat" since? its already heated from beneath the ground..coming up the pipeline ! )

I live in North Carolina, and just replaced my old gas pack with a 2-ton geothermal heat pump - and it is awesome!! I installed one vertical water loop in a 385 foot boring, and the returning loop water is about 60 degrees in February! I installed the rest of the system myself. To donnacha's negative comments - it cost me less than $14,000, and I'll get 30% of it back from federal taxes AND 35% back from NC = net cost

Lets say you had window air conditioners, you'd be using alot of electricity to power them. Now lets say you had geothermal, you would be using a fraction of the electricity (less than 1/4) to produce the? air conditioning you need. You are correct that insulation should be addressed first.

@homie0smurf. Ground temperatures are only slightly different depending where you live, but not as? much as you'd think (maybe 10 degrees from PA to FL). Geothermal Heating and Cooling works anywhere in the U.S. Ground temperature has nothing to do with hot springs, volcano, etc. The ground is heated by the sun, not the earths core. It stays a consistent temperature which makes geothermal viable is almost any situation.

This means one would use less fossil fuel (heating oil, propane, coal, etc.) to heat their home during the winter and they would also use less electricity in the summer to air condition than before.? Insulation is good too, I would recommend insulation and then installing a more efficient system. In summary geothermal systems allow homeowners to burn significantly less fossil fuels and use less electricity.

bullshit. save the earth my ass. unless u have? a wind turbine powering the heat pump and circulating pumps u aint saving shit. as far as i know (because no one will tell me) it costs 2-3 k a year to run this system depending on the house size. 20k to 30k to install. spend ur money on insulation and u wont need much if any heat

I'll bet living right on the coast is hard on outdoor units. (Salt Air). Using Two Sanyo 24KHS72 systems here, and we have problems heating when it's below 8deg F (rarely), but Open-Loop from a well interests me, for? hot-water heating. I do have good place to dump the chilled water. I just need to drill a well.. :( Can you please post the kWh per-month used during Dec 2011, with the sq-footage heated?? Cheers, Rich

It's great to have all that water resource. My parents'? house has a WaterFurnace brand unit with three glycol filled closed loops a few feet buried in the ground. They also have the auxiliary water heating option that helps, but the water heater still kicks on from time to time.

I am not a big fan of the new refridgerants. Most of the push on those is EPA crap IMO. It was Sunday and we did a bunch of laundrey. The one? thing about heating water this way is you dont have a constant water temp. One day you may have water hot enough for cooking and other days its just hot enough. It all depends on how much the system is running. I can always flip the breaker on for the water heater but I try not to do that.

That is one nice thing about geothermal , They do best in crazy hot and very cold invironments.Normal heat pumps used in northern climents have whats called strip heat to defrost them and to just plane? keep up. With gethermal it dosnt matter what the temp is outside you are using the constant temp of the earth just a short distance under your feet. Hope that was Helpfull.

Why don't you set it up in the winter to provide all your refrigeration/freezer needs. I would think you could pipe the cooled compressed gas to a specially rigged freezer or fridge. Then pipe it back to get compressed again, or you could do a mini forced? air system with ducts running to a freezer or fridge, that way you avoid piping the gas Keep the videos coming.

Great explanation and awesome system. When I get the house I'm saving up for, I may want to install one of these. I don't have a big need for air conditioning where I live but I do like the savings on heating hot water. I wonder if a second well that was drilled 20 or 30? feet away from the first one might be a good place to put the excess water.

would be better to just drill deeper and use a transfer medium? like molten salt in a closed loop to reclaim heat from the magma heat source directly and then transfer the heat energy to stealium or distilled water in a secondary closed loop that powers a steam turbine and generator. using water directly over complicates and is inefficient.

Aeternalis Fuel and Mobius Fuel? don't run in anything except EMC-based machines anymore. EE's developer says he disabled their use as standard fuel because machines start to bug out the game when you have fuel values that are so ridiculously high. By the way, the filter and retriever section of this is kinda similar to the water mill equivalent of this, huh? The only difference is that we have an infinite lava source instead of an infinite water source fed into buckets.

Most manufacturers say that 1 in 28 new homes have these? pumps. This is great progress, but it is not anywhere near close to the majority of the population. The 30 percent tax credits last only until 2016, so use them ASAP! The upfront cost is a big hurdle for most people. What if two or more neighbors shared the loop cost though? I think they could really reduce the upfront cost while getting one of the best energy efficient options.

It's sad the ignorance that has to be waded through to bring when you mention anything but oil in this country. People the Earth is hot. If you dig down it gets very hot. But this system doesn't go that deep. This is like a cave where wine or whiskey is stored, a constant temperature. It helps heat the house by keeping the heating system at 55 degrees so if? you need more heat you only have to add a little energy. In theory if used with solar or wind you might not need outside energy at all.

I think geothermal heating/cooling is quite expensive to convert to for most families, it is definitely the future, but will happen slowly as new properties are built with geothermal. If I had the dough? I would convert right now! I'm quite sick of paying 2-3 thousand a year on heating. Geo would pay for itself in a decade.

Are you sure you're putting the lava cell in the target slot in the Condenser? Also check that Equivalent Exchange (v6.22) and Industrial Craft (v1.64) are up to date. Try putting the lava cell into a Transmutation Tablet and see if? that works. If it just pops back into your inventory then you could be using the wrong version of the mods.

in that case i guess i'm stuck using the watermill powerplant for low tier production ... mid-to-high tier energy production would have? to be satisfied by the forestry mod since it has generators that give 20eu/t just like the geothermal.... and keep the EE collectors(upgrading when possible of course) for diamond production... tks for the info!!! it's nice to talk to people that are actually interested :)

Your setup would also require a Relay which is relatively expensive in the beginning.Odedex's updated factory is the best we are going to see at the moment. As I mentioned in? my other comment, you could use a single Tier 1 to feed a single Geo. Generator, then when you upgrade to a Tier 2, add 2 more generators.

You would get EMC back from recycling the empty bucket but it would only be worth 768EMC, you would still need an? extra 64EMC to get a Lava Bucket. A Tier 1 Energy Collector produces 4EMC/second, meaning one bucket would be filled after 16 seconds. This would be very inefficient if used to feed multiple generators. I believe I worked it out so that a Tier 1 Collector could feed only one generator, Tier 2 could feed 3 and a Tier 3 could feed 6.

i'm guessing a lava bucket is also 128EMC... in that case we could use a system with an anti-matter relay next to the energy condenser and a retriever. it would empty the buckets in the geo generators and recycle them the relay.? i'm trying to think of a very low tier solution(maybe use a tier 1 energy collector)... will try it in the next few days and maybe come up with a video response if you allow them
