Yes, you need to finish your Forenic Degree in biology and toxicology or something similar. I? have double degree with medical science so to me it came natural. If you apply with police you should be able to enter and with experience and futher training you should be able to go into field. Although if you do not have stomach of dead bodies, burnt bodies, decomposed bodies, stay in lab.

@RaineyWM You need to have very good maths skills to enter this field. You wont be doing much maths at university but you will need maths skills when dealing with say chemistry and physics part of your degree. Again if you? have maths issues there is always a bridging unit that universities offer which you can take.

I disagree, on one point...The people who came and established the English speaking countries, were native English speakers (most of them, anyway)? from the mainland, so it was their language too. Ok, I just watched the first 2 minutes, and I bet a million dollar that the criminal in this case is the biological father. Why? 1. Because he was too fast to call the police. 2. When the mother arrived, she immediately turned against her husband accusing him for the missing of her children. This tells me that he might not liked the kids very much, and his wife knows it. The job market for forensic anthropologists is almost non-existant (there aren't hundreds of skeletons showing up, thankfully, but like you said, things will fall into place! Also, consider things you could do in addition to forensic anthropology with your future training. A lot of us with this background training work? as medical school professors in anatomy and orthopedics, as consultants, researchers for skeletal disease, identifying war victims of Vietnam, etc. Best of luck! :]

After reading a book called Dead Men Do Tell Tales, and watching videos on forensic anthropology, I'm positive this is the field I? want to pursue. I'm actually in the process of going back to school to major in Anthropology. I recently found out about? Forensic Anthropology (at the time i was more interested in paleoanthropology and linguistics) and found it to be quite fascinating, however, as stated previously by a youtube member, the decaying of a human is what might affect me throughout the process of indetifying the deceased.....

You can still do it! I'm terrible with math, but I'm still doing well in my MA program! I recommend a statistics class on? the side, but they will teach you most of the required mathematical techniques in a grad program or any forensic anthropology class (mostly measuring, finding ratios and indices, etc.) Good luck!

An autopsy is typically done by a forensic pathologist, medical examiner, etc. when theres? still a lot of flesh. Once it's reduced to bone or extremely decomposed, then a forensic anthropologist will come in to consult. Short answer, no, but don't let that turn you away from this field :D

It's never too late to learn!!! You'd be fine starting at any age (though above 60 might? be hard). And no worries about the math. I'm not skilled in math either, but I'm finished up my MA in forensic anthropology this year. I recommend statistics though. You'll be doing a lot of measuring (techniques you can learn in a biological/physical anthropology course), but it helps to have taken a statistics class or two, and review basic math-intermediate (high school) algebra. There's? more than 40. The ABFA (American Board of Forensic Anthropology) has about 80 board certified forensic anthropologists (it was 85 but a few have died and others retired). Most/Nearly all forensic anthropologists have a PhD, though some have an MA/MS. It's HIGHLY recommended that you pursue graduate work for any forensic field. My suggestion is go to the AAFS (American Academy of Forensic Sciences) website, click Resources, Students, and then select Choosing a Career. It highlights almost every field of forensic? science, and can help you narrow down your choice. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! (grad student in anthropology)

My recommendation is to look into various grad schools in your area (or elsewhere) that have strong cultural anthropology programs, though most anthro programs are always strong in that area. Look into the various coursework required, and then tailor your program to match your interests for when you write your thesis (if? you go through with one). Find which professor(s) you enjoy most, and see if they have any research opportunities. Best of luck! (grad student in anthropology)

If you want clean your hard drive use? a program that uses the Guttmann algorithm. CLEAN DISK SECURITY comes to mind but you have to buy it before it will clean your swap file which could have incriminating stuff on it. Truecrypt is also the way to keep them out of your stuff. I'd use 2-3 different programs if I was concerned about security. If I was planning a crime I'd get a wireless laptop and use someone else connection to plot the crime then trash the h drive. hammer drill magnets acid etc

So to all you criminals who plan on using your computer for a crime, be sure to remove your hard? drive, open it up and pry the three-four internal disks apart. Vigorously rub both sides of each disk with steal wool then bend them up as much as possible. Than drive 20miles in each direction, "N,S,E,W" and bury a disk deep in the ground at each location...in a wooded area off the beaten path, and throw some screws and washers over it to throw off the metal detector...Now your files are deleted.

Don't forget to open it and intensely rub the disks themselves with steal wool. People do not realize that when they hit delete all that changes is the first digital impression to that file, either a 0 to a 1 or vise-verse. The file is still there until it is written over by another new file. Often the old file can still be recovered even if it? is written over... with the right program, so can a formatted disk, but the cops don't want you to know this

you? ARE A JACKASS. The disk defrag will copy all parts of the file somewhere on the hard disk and then write it back to the back of the file before it. It jumbles nothing. If after all the files written to the hard disk you have space that hasnt been used or rewritten. That is the stuff encase will find. If you lucky enough that the evidence was in untouched space than you got it but if not the perp gets off.

I work in the security field with the us military, law enforcement and also wit hthose often-3-letter-agencies of the us government. autopsy, photorec, C.A.I.N.E, D.E.F.T, EnCase,FTK, scalpel, and many other tools are used. Getting data is important, but Computer Forensics is also largely *HOW* and *WHY* you got the data, lest it? not be admissable in a court of law.

Where did I say it was the "only tool used?" I'm not pulling this? info out of thin air, I have talked with a director at a RCFL and was given a brief on the lab at the different platforms used and the main software used... They also use FTK by the way... They have pretty much everything to deal with a hardware and software configuration including every imaginable legacy system you can think of.

Actually, it is possible to crack the new encase (v6) - and without the dongle too! Infact,? getting past the dongle protection is the easy bit, it's the FIPS integrity crap thats the pain in the bum. Regardless, a commercial copy dosnt cost $10,000, its around $2000. I dont think you tried hard enough !

A shame that since there's no offline version, we can't? buy it and use in forensics work here on my department. This stuff can't be public, or even online. The point cloud is amazing, but the whole representation of the scene with photos is, per se, a very valuable tool. Hope some offline softaware that doeas this kind of syncronization comes out soon.

The company is from Holland so it's about 4am there now :-) I expect you will have everything tomorrow. They will have a modeling module out in the near future,? but it is still under development. The viewer and editor are available for purchase but you can try them for 30 days. I have found that unless it is a very organically shaped object, buildings and other architectural features are best modeled by bringing the point cloud in Max. Thanks for your comments!
