changing the ball's color probably isnt such a good idea from a player's point of view, the ball has to stand out from the surroundings, and only bright green/yellow can do that changing the court color to something darker so its more obvious on? TV is the most feasible way

Well clearly Federer did not play FEDERER until when he levelled 5-5 in the 2nd test. For the entire match Federer's performance was simply as he was casually practicing. You may not agree with me, but the point is that a player of Federer's stature has an unbeatable game and it just even when his game may look like good..its not because Federer isn't a lowly ranked amateur. So even a slight drop in the game is enough for him? to loose specially when he is playing the current no 1 Djokovic.

Luck doesn't have much to do with it, no really, it? doesn't. Especially when you consider how many times they've played. Nadal's ability to win those break point chances was more impressive than I think you're giving him credit for, amazing clutch ability and heart do have a lot to do with that, but so what? He's gotten by on heart/mental strength mixed with top-level athleticism most of his career. These tools are, most of the time, too much to handle for even the unrivaled talents of Fed.

I? do respect Nadal's mental fortitude and heart as I've said before. It is astounding. But Federer has been unlucky with Nadal in ways that scarred him for his whole career. As far as Nadal really bringing up the level and beating Fed, it lies in the shadow of Federer's huge amount of break point chances lost (1 of 17 at FO 2007 F, worst stat of his career), and mental problems. I think Fed should have won the french open more than once. Nadal just really was not far from his level on clay.

I'm a huge Fed fan and I believe he's the best to ever play? the game... but I also believe in giving credit where credit's do, therefore I think Nadal is also an amazing player, however when Fed is playing at his best there isn't a soul on this planet that can beat him (not even Nadal playing at his best). We all know that Nadal leads the matchups18 to 10 but did he really beat Fed in those matches? or did Fed lose them? look a the number of UNFORCED ERRORS commited by Fed when facing Nadal.

But saying that they're "not even close" is preposterous when he has been the better player when they've gone head-to-head more often than not. How they deal with other players on the tour is another story entirely, but you gotta admit, Nadal has an impressive ability to play huge when it matters most. When he plays Fed, he raises his level and grinds it out.

Federer has proved he has the most adaptable game of the top 3 here but I don't think its particularly common that players of nadal/djoko's calibre come out and complain about? the court, which makes me think its pretty bad. I can't help thinking if Federer had lost to Raonic most of the youtube community would be bellyaching about the court rather than seeing it as an opportunity to have a pop at Nadal and Djoko. The purpose of the blue clay is that it's supposed to be more "viewer friendly," i.e. we're supposed to be able to track the ball better with the blue background, but I don't think that it is. At times the ball seems to blend in with the lighter parts of the court, making it a little more difficult to? track, I think.

When he talks about "players come and go, but the tournaments stay" - true, but that doesn't mean he should do anything without consulting them. Yeah I think its all the more impressive Roger won on the blue clay which both Rafa and Novak complained about due to the difficulty of moving effectively on this type of clay.? True it would serve him well to get in some match play on the red clay but the result in Madrid bodes well for his chances in Roland Garros. This season will probably see Roger and Rafa battling for the #2 slot and I think its a safe bet that Novak will not be quite as dominant so Federer and Nadal will gain in points.

well, these are tennis players sure, but they're also multi-millionares. Why do you think that is? Because of the sponsors and the marketing. ATP cares about the players (obviously otherwise there is no ATP), but also about the sponsors. Yes Rafa and Nole? are right to complain, but the way was wrong and you can't help but thinking that if the change was in their favour they wouldn't complain. I do agree with u that discussing th issues during/after th tournament is not rly helpful 2 ne1, especially th players who may have been affected by th changes. I do however feel that it would have been unfair to judge th? change before it was tested out properly, and I say this only because tournament organizers gave assurance that only th colour would be different. They claim that the laying of the clay, not the colour, made it slippery. They should have played an exhibition event beforehand.

The tournament has only just ended, and I'm sure there will be some more discussion in future weeks, so you can't expect too much from players who are still involved in a tournament. Djoko and Rafa only really complained big time once they were eliminated because they were no longer focusing on a tournament. Yeah, very disappointing. Fed didn't play too well, not super sharp at all. I just watched the highlights and was again struck, especially in the first set, by the EXTREME physical expenditure, fitness and effort of Djoko. Good thing there was at least a tie-break? in the 2nd set and to know that it takes Djoko extreme effort to beat Fed. So everything lies open for RG; just a tad sharper and Fed may very well beat him again...

Well I didn't watch the Federer-Djokovic match, but for sure Federer performed poorly based on the stats, especially the first serve percentage, and when you don't serve well, other things tend to go wrong. What I don't know is if Djokovic actually played very well or not (well enough to beat Rafa). But for sure Federer suffered an extremely disappointing loss for him. I can only wonder what would have happened if he? had won the tiebreaker, but I think Novak deserved the victory.

I agree that while the USO loss was heartbreaking as a Fed fan, looking back on it, it was best that Djokovic won there because Fed would not have beaten Nadal in the final. Any Fed fan can say what they like, deep down they know Nadal is a terrible matchup for Fed? (as I do) and that it would have hurt his legacy more if Nadal beat him to win a 2nd USO title. This is a testament to how versatile Federer truly is. Some of the other players can't adapt to? the surface, but Federer has been winning easily (except against Raonic). In my opinion...he is still the greatest of all time! Djokovic and Nadal have a strong game from the baseline but they lack the grace and attacking style of Federer that makes each of his matches so compelling to watch. I hope he wins a few tournaments this year...he deserves it! :)

i didnt forget rg, i just started from the assumption that roger will win wb, because if he doesnt, whole story of him? becoming no1 (at least before US open) isnt realistic. in that case, he will need to win rg, and that will be really hard. on the other hand, i can totally see him as winner of wb and/or olympics. so under that assumption (fed winning wb) , djokovic would need massive clay season, probably title on rg to retain no1. thats all i wanted to say :)

so, long story short, nole has a lot more to lose than roger in next 2 months. ( didnt meant to be a smartass just wanted to clear things up a bit, hope you dont take it the wrong way, im a federer fan, but im also from serbia so i have utmost respect for everything nole has accomplished and for what kind a person he is.? plus i myself am also athlete, so believe me i appreciate everything they do on and off the court. :)

which he as sure as hell dont have this year, but theres still time. now heres worst case scanario for him. lets say? he loses to roger in rome and he goes on and wins it. thats only 210 in front of RG. now, a little unrealistically if fed wins rg and wb and nole loses in semis in both, fed will lead him by 3510 points (with that rome masters). also dont forger OG in london, which are also on grass and they count something like ATP 750 series (regarding points) so thats not irrelevant too...

well, heres math for you mate. now novak is 1760 points ahead. in rome he defends 1000 and fed measly 90. lets say fed only makes it to q final (which i doubt) and nole somehow defend? title. thats 1650. now im gonna skip ahead to wb scenario. roger obviously needs to win it if he wants no1, so lets say he beats nole (best possible scenario for him),thats + 790 for roger. and if roger makes semis in rg, thats only -480 to him. so if fed hypothetically wins wb, nole needs god damn good clay season
