If you understand the the Geography and the difference between Okinawan Language and Japanese,there are two small islands in the Est China Sea between Okinawa and the mainland. One is Hama Higa (Higa's Beach), and Tsuken, but the Okinawan pronunciation is "Chikin". Suna means "sand and Kakeru is the verb - to cover. Hence, Cover with Sand Kata from Chikin Island. So you stab the tip of the oar in the sand and flick it in the face of the oponent and attack! Who taught you this Kata??

I am a 6th Degree black belt student of TaekwonDo and was taught this form by a good friend but with the Bo some years ago and when he passed I had not studied it ling enough to get the basics down... Most of my TaekwonDo class mates are dispersed all over the country and could not help me... I am so happy? to have found it performed by an excellent Instructor.. Shapland Sensei is a real Kobudo Master. Regarding the Shinken Taira lineage of Kobudo? from what I've seen around the country, there is no doubt he is the best in the U.S. and Canada.

It's kind of hard to switch grips without getting yours slightly off the weapon, but he may be emphasizing this for beginners. As for whether this is "truly Okinawan", Shihan Nishiuchi trained with Kinjo Takashi Sensei? in Nara the most, but also Matayoshi Shinpo Sensei for a while too. Kinjo Sensei is even better know for his ability with ieku than Matayoshi Sensei was. By the way, eku is a kind of water-resistant wood, ieku is the weapon, but people use both to mean the oar.

Just recently came across all your videos w/ this instructor, he's very impressive and thanks for posting. My sensei and I have never seen him and are trying to determine if his style is truly Okinawan as I'd like to incorporate this? eku kata. He does take his hands off the weapon quite a bit and in our style at least, Shorei Goju Ryu, that's not common practice, particularly with the bo. Any guidance you could give on his name or style, etc. would be greatly appreciated. tx again!

Just? recently came across all your videos with this particular instructor. He's very impressive and showed this ieku kata to my sensei and although what we observe appears to be Okinawan, we notice that he takes his hands off the ieku. In our style of Shorei Goju-Ryu, at least with the bo, it is standard practice to keep both hands on. I'd like to consider incorporating this kata but any clues on who he is would help me determine if he is in fact Okinawan. Tx.

This is the Eku Kata that I would like to learn as number one. I think it exemplifies what the usage of an Oar as a weapon is all about. All strikes and block with all parts of the Eku are demonstrated, as the nornal motion/use of the oar to paddle the boat which is a move to propel the boat, keep balance,? and could be used as a sweep. Eku The Okinawan style of oar is called an eku (this actually refers to the local wood most commonly used for oars), eiku, iyeku, or ieku. Noteworthy hallmarks are the slight point at the tip, curve to one side of the paddle and a roof-like ridge along the? other. One of the hojoundo for this weapon utilizes the fact that a fisherman fighting on the beach would be able to fling sand at an opponent. There is no spelling of ideogramatical languages, there is only phonetic representation. Listening closely to Okinawans pronouncing their ideogram for a boat paddle gives the distinct impression of two immediate vowel sounds, not one. There fore, Eku ("a koo") can not be correct. They have two pronounciations, "e a koo" and "e e koo". I find it amusing you know so much detail of an unwritten history and can then use the word myth so easily when? it disputes your detail.

EKU had a football game on Halloween. Watch as they perform Halloween Medley, Black Magic Woman, and Thriller. If you watch closely you will see that Meredith hits the Colonel in the face in the beginning of Halloween Medley. Quite funny. We also dance to Thriller, which if I do say so, turned out nicely. Audience seemed to love it.

When did I say that I have "never sinned" (like Jesus)? Why don't you just answer the questions? Tell me one sin that you can't stop doing with the strength that Jesus gives (Phil. 4:13). God does not let us be tempted beyond what we are able to bear (1 Cor. 10:13). If we walk according to the Spirit, we will not fulfill the lust of the flesh (Gal. 5:16). I attended EKU back in the 80's and remember the campus preachers well. Those I remember, never delivered the message like Kerrigan. Kerrigan is respectful with facts. Sadly,? when I see the students, I see myself- just 25 years ago. Fortunately, I found Christ and wish I could go back 25 years and do a few things differently. Keep up the good work Kerrigan. Your respectful approach is sure to sow seeds. I will pray for you and your mission as well.

Sorry Kerrigan, but I don't follow your reasoning that only the Trinity, Elijah and Enoch are in heaven. Enoch was a (relatively) obscure Old Testament figure, yet he is in heaven and giants like Moses and David are in Hades/Sheol? Also, when Jesus is transigured we see Moses alongside Him in a glorified body. How could this be if Moses is in Hades/Sheol according to your? logic? Also, your logic doesn't seem to line up with 2 Corinthians. 5;8

I ve seen more than half of your videos. ? I have to tell you that these 2 days had the best preaching I ve seen on youtube. This approach of dialogue supported by scripture is very powerful. So many times Christian Preachers are yelling and come across sounding unlearned in scripture and the position of the bible on modern society. Hopefully more Christians can learn from this way of witnessing. (Dont get me wrong though. Some times the stern loud in your face preaching is whats needed...)

I explain this in the video. Anything that makes you have a mind that is not sober, should not be used, swallowed, smoked, etc. People who smoke weed are definitely not "sober minded". Engaging in pharmakeia (the Greek word? transalted as "sorcery" in Revelation 21:8 and where we get our English word pharmacy from) also opens you up to demonic possession/oppression. What do you mean by "speaking in tongues"? Do you mean speaking another known language somewhere in the world? Or do you mean the "babbling tongues" that some people do out loud or? as a "prayer language"? "Christian private school education" is better than public school education, but not by much if you ask me. The parents are the ones who should be teaching/training their children, not paid teachers...

Where does the Bible say that you are responsible for violently stopping someone (using force) from killing anyone? Yes, Jesus died for the whole world as a sin offering. I get a guilty feeling of possible sin when I think about the situation because my consious says it would be a sin to let my family die because I didn't stop it by the only force that would work. I never said that government officials couldn't take life when necessary. They surely do have a mandate to do such, as long? as they follow the criteria laid out in the Bible. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean that Christians should be involved in such things. Jesus made all of this clear in Matthew 5:43-48. Please tell me how you can "love your enemy" and "pray for your enemy" as a Christian and kill them? How can you send them into a Christ-less eternity?

Sorry Kerrigan, your logic is wrong here. God forbids 'murder', not killing i.e unlawful killing. God delegates the power to take life to the government, in the form of capital punishment and also police and soldiers.? Jesus Himself acknowledged the right of the state to take life during his trial before Pilate. What about Psalms which talk about training hands for war? What about Exodus which described God as a man of war?
