This movie captured really intense, magical moments between characters without stating the obvious and that's what I really like about it. I was so enthralled by the acting, music, and cinematography, that I didn't realize "Driver" didn't have a? name until the second time I watched. The scenes between Ryan and Carey were so quiet, yet telling. One of my favorite scenes is when "Driver" walks down the hallway in slow-mo carrying a sleeping "Benicio", after their evening of fun. Love Love Love

well i think it was the motel he made the first kill and there he's just stone cold and determent, both the guy he shoots and the other one, no hesitation. and my theory is he isnt? nervous on the phone call, he is really pumped and full of adrealin. and in the smashing scene, he isnt showing much of emotions and if he isnt used to killing he would have just stopped and get out of there. my theory anyways.

No I don't think so, the? Driver was really nervous when he made the phone call, and also when he smashed the other guys head. It's like he wanted to solve the problems as soon as possible. Because by the looks of it he'd never experienced anything like it. But still, you may be right ;)

True, but also untrue. You don't? know anything about him before or after the film, but during the film, as the viewer, we infer everything we need to know through his actions. WATCH the movie, EXPERIENCE the movie. They are visual devices, the characters are depicted through what we see, not what we are told. In a good film, anyway.

This film is way too over rated... I enjoyed it, it was a cool flick. But take it easy...its not what everyone is saying it was. Its very stylized, and they depict the main character some silent badass, which is why everyone is all excited. I get it, they make him look like a real cool dude without saying anything, but come on, I cant? even feel for the character, there was no emotion in him.. you barely knew anything about him...

Hmmm, the gore. Yeah, it was really brutal at times. But I actually didn't mind it at all. SPOILER: The only 'gory' scene that I didn't like was the scene were the guy gets a fork in his eye and then gets his throat slit open. It just was so sudden and out-of-place and actually unnecessary.? But, overall an excellent film. I agree.

The gore was completely necessary and well done. I found it cringingly realistic. This coming from one whose seen thier fair share of rottendotcom, /b etc. As for the elevator scene I didn't think it was so much a cheap gore shot but one that defined just how freaking intense? that situation was. Irene's shock, horror & fear even. As well as the extent to which Driver is willing to go. You don't have to smash a guy's entire head in to kill him by kicking it, but he does.

Disagree. I feel like all the gore scenes in this movie are flawless. This movie tricks you. I mean that in the best way possible. First you think its going to be action packed because of the first 5 minutes. Then the next? hour is 100% artsy which is awesome. By that point, the least thing your expecting is to see extremely violent scenes which I felt made those scenes more realistic and horrifying. Your drawn into a world that doesn't seem so different then real life and then it hits you.

No problem with the gore here. I don't believe I've had a time this good in a theater the last? ten years. As? far as I'm concerned, "Drive" is an instant classic whose future reputation will reflect just that. I could not disagree with you more regarding the elevator scene; it was perfect! The fact that "Drive" was not nominated best picture, reveals a level of absurdity I can't quite grasp. Any thoughts on why it wasn't nominated? Good review. Well, except for the gore, that is:)

It's a tricky thing, because I have no idea what happens when a skull gets bashed? in. It's hard to tell if the violence was trying to be 'realistic' or over-the-top 80's style violence. There's a fine line. And I agree, that it did take me out just because I felt it was clashing, stylistically. Everything else is brilliant though.

nice? observation. another thing i noticed, although not symbolic, is the use of mirrors. refn uses a lot of reflections during conversations. i'm assuming so that the viewer can see all the faces of the characters during the conversation in one continuous cut, instead of cutting back 'n' forth from face to face. i noticed it about 3 or 4 times. great movie.

I thought this was the best part of movie, when Standard celeberates his home coming with a very moving speech, which I really apreciated. The way he said it and his smile, said everything. Also we had thought that Standard would be a 'bad guy' leaving the hero to take his wife and the kid, but instead we find he is a nice guy, who loves his wife and kid! Brilliant script and movie.?

Saw it as well, although I'll elaborate that the halo is slightly skewed to suggest the unconventional nature of his heroism. I mean he? isn't some great, pure, knight in shining armour. He used incredibly brutal methods throughout the film, so should he be called a hero at the end of the day?

I also have to disagree with you a bit. I mean I feel? like there aren't many films out there that are about a man who is a mechanic, stunt man, and getaway driver that tries to help out a girl and gets into trouble. The thing is this movie is not plot driven, the plot is extremely dull when taken out of context but the style and the artistry are why it is blown up right now. Great balance of contrasting elements, cinematography, soundtrack, and pretty good acting as well.

*SPOILER ALERT* he doesn't end up with the girl, he just gets away with killing a bunch of people. The song relates to that and also the obvious part of how he's Irene's hero and he has this kind of supernaturalness about him because he's so unemotional and stoic and can muder people with such a calm countenance but then with Irene? and her son he is so compassionate, kind and sweet. That is his human part "a real human being/and a real hero"

makes it? so grandiose and phenomenal. I also adore the stylistic elements such as the soundtrack and the cohesiveness of it all. Obviously yet I find it extremely clever that they are playing this song and the lyrics and the tone of it fit perfectly with the scene. When he is sitting there and she is standing their they are thinking of each other and I love the other song, "A Real Hero" because it is a song that seems to build up to nothing kind of like the end of the movie

I could not agree with you more. I mean this movie is very blunt and one does not need to see it multiple times to understand it (perhaps the plot because I'm still confused about that) but the way the film combines all of these elements into one fluid piece? with evocative moments between Irene and Driver (without a name) and also on the edge of your seat intense car chases and blunt violence that makes one wince.

You may think you seen many movies like drive but actually there aren't many movies like it at all. Sure many other films have the same premise but like i said Drive unfold visually, Mixing violence and art, suspense and drama, horror and romance without much dialogue at all. I don't think if overstepped its bounds and got to the point where it being unrealistic took me out of the film. It stayed fairly realistic as far as movies go.? There's a difference between being influenced and stealing. drive stayed enough away from its influences to be its own film. obviously this a straight up genera piece and there have been many and i mean MANY other films with a similar premise. But Drive unfolds visually instead of through words.

I didn't watch the trailer to make my judgement.The film is really unrealistic in the way"everything went down"as you put it.Film steals a lot from other films also,you just know Carey and Ryan will hook up,when her husband comes from jail there will be tension,than we got usual unpayed debt extortion and reason to hate gangsters,revenge and ending.I didn't dislike it but it's way too over hyped and only? interesting for those that don't see that many films,it's average.

those cgi graphics are not for the masses. many people are frightened when watching those cgi videos because they are lifeless. those cgi graphics are not for the masses. many people are frightened when watching those cgi videos because they are lifeless. A film could give life to it and more important: tell a story of a family living in there from birth till death. besides: what will you do with the mass of the people who don´t know how to download, install, open and navigate that render module? perhaps you only get the game geeks. cinema is for? everyone - schoolchild to aged people.

Just a matter of drive, time & lifestyle how culture will develop. within 2 generations a total change could be possible. simple proof: imagine the lifestyle of your teenage parents. it totally differed from yours. so, you don´t have to force taking away property now. but you can drive the world into a new age. i think it´s time to give us more freedom to have the time and posibillities to do the things we really want and stop producing crap? that only hurts our environment and steals our time!

You could also use an EQ to cut hard around 1K with a low Q value (wide) as well as adding a? high-pass filter to "remove" some of the bad reflections in the room leaving a much more cleaner, focused and pleasant sound.

2:13 - So will it be sorta like a comedy? If not then I think it will need a good story to not fail miserably and accomplish nothing but a waste of your money,? which of course would be a huge shame. Right now that's what I fear.
