it's definitely an adjustment from throwing ultimate discs. throwing golf? discs requires a bit more arm speed and technique to really achieve the results you want. i recommend just finding an open field near where you live and just experiment with your throw until you find what's comfortable.

how are you throwing, RHBH, your trying to put too much power in your throw, lessen up on it, the disc should rip from your grip, not you releasing the disc. Also your? step might be messed up, practice daily walking an x-step until your comfortable running the x-step, then your shoulder should not hurt anymore

If you want to throw an elevator shot, throw your disc slightly nose up with a slight anhyzer angle on it and you should be able to get the elevator shot to work just fine.? The reason it drops straight down from so high up is that as it stalls it is also coming out of the anhyzer. It doesn't have a chance to finish off as normal so it just falls nearly straight down.

Personally, I played for years with just a single midrange disc. But now I play with about 5 or so. 2 drivers one overstable, and one understable, and 2? midrange discs, the same. I'll also normally bring a disc I'm working with, or for a particular shot. Personally, I don't carry a putter.

I haven't been playing very long, and my best shots come from the Avenger SS, Buzzz and the Meteor. I had a few other discs to start off with, but my partner had those in his bag, and let me throw those. This is absolutely true. I've had local pros look at my form as well. I couldn't hyzer for anything until? I learned how to hyzer an Ultra-Star. I translated what I learned to my golf throw and now I can hyzer far more effectively.

I was playing one of our lesser known local courses when I came upon Eric McCabe and Liz Lopez, among others, taking ace runs on every basket on the course until they hit one, and then they'd move on. Watching them throw really sparked my imagination. They let my group play through after? we watched them for a few minutes. I got down to the basket 340 feet away and realized they were throwing putters and midranges. This changed my game forever. I'm throwing my Roc, Wasp and Stingray 350 now.

It's a system put in place by the PDGA to help estimate skill levels of players. Kind of like handicap, but more flexible.? A player's overall rating is the average of several rounds, adjusted periodically. A player's rating for a single round is a function of the scores attained on that course and the player's own score as compared to the rest of the field. Hudson Mills has 2 courses. Par from short tees on the Monster is a 925 rating. On the Original it's 897. The score is what counts.

These are not anhyzer or hyzer. These are hyzer flips. They are aiming way out the left and releasing the discs either flat for the real stable ones or tipped down as much as 45 degrees for the less stables. The discs come out so fast that the understables "flip" up and ride flat with so much speed and spin that they become temporarily understable? at those high speeds and turn right.

some are anny's some hyzers. because it's hard to see the angle of the disc on release the best way to tell is by looking at the plane of the shoulders on release and the follow through of the arm. When? throwing a hyzer the chest leans forward and the shoulders are more parallel with the ground. Upon release the arm follows through towards the sky. Anhyzers are essentially the opposite.

you can negative-fade an overstable disc even with a weak arm. Not that the power even comes from the arm. It's mostly a matter of angle of attack, the angle it's tilted up relative to the direction it's going. Every disc has a "zero? fade" AOA where it will fly straight. Throw below that AOA and it will fade negative, above and it fades positive. If you release hyzer with a low AOA, it also precesses around to anhyzer quicker than hyzer with a high AOA.

isn't anhyzer when the face of the disc is toward you when the disc leaves the hands? when? they throw they have the outside edge pointed down. i thought the disc was turning right because of the stability of the disc. Even when you throw an overstable disc you can get it to turn right if you have a fast enough arm like these guys

They show you what discs they are using before they throw. Robbie throws the ESP Predator. It has a stability rating of 2.5. So, very overstable. I think a couple of the other guys were throwing Surge's of some sort. They have ratings of 1.5 or 1.6 which is overstable. The Flash ESP has a rating of 1.5, overstable. FLX Avenger is 1.8, overstable. The Surge 150 is 0.5, which? is barely overstable. Pulse ESP is 1.8

Keep your front shoulder down. That will keep? the disc down and flat. If you're playing in tight wooded courses, you don't want the disc raising and hitting branches. Even in an open course, elevation kills distance. Like they said in the video, smooth and clean, nice follow through will generate power.

da324 i know what you mean about the old frisbee grip. I started out using it when i started, its fine for putting. But for tee shots it's tough to get a good grip because you have too throw SOOO much harder than the old frisbees. I actually learned to use a forehand flip throw for distance. granted it's? not as far as these guys but i can throw alot farther (and easier) with the forehand grip. frisbees and golf discs throw ALOT different.

For average players the nuke is designed to cut back to the left like most discs (with the exception of the Avenger SS or Buzzz? SS). Keep throwing it until you learn the flight pattern. You may even want to try to release it with a slight anhyzer. But he said in the video that he releases it on a hyzer so you may want to try that.

I ware a Townsend metal brace on my right knee. I have poor range of motion in my hips due to steal rods in my lower spine. Along? with a metal plate in my neck that stops some ROM. I am a right hand back hand, and forehand thrower. With the forehand I can do a run up during T off. with the back hand I can not do the cross step as my leg will not cross due to the rom in my hips. I still throw 100 to 150 feet with the back hand, and about 200 to 250 feet forehand.

My brother tore his acl from the bone. He couldnt play for almost 3/4 of a year. If? your knee is bad i would recomend getting a metal knee brace that is comfortable and allows you to turn just a little bit. He can throw his nuke about 400 feet and thats with a horrible knee and slow runup

Sure, a putter is a great approach disc if that is what is in your comfort zone. I currently use a Soft Banger GT for shorter straight approaches and a Soft Focus for ones with a little hyzer. For wind situations I turn to the ESP Zone (saved my bacon at the? Memorial) as it will cut through the wind and still hyzer in. When I say short I am talking 125 to 200 feet. Longer than that I generally step up to a mid so that I can throw it more lightly and have more control.

You are absolutely correct on the "different? distance for different people" thing so it is truly hard to narrow that down. I am a longer putter than most and will generally use a putting motion from about 75-80 feet and in. However, from 75 to 125 I may try to "play catch" with the basket and use a little nose up air bounce toss at the target as if I was trying to throw a disc to friend and not have him move. After that, I am trying to get the disc as close to the basket as possible-approach.

I know everyone's throws are different and distances are different, but it seems reasonable to have? some conversation about when to stop thinking "fairway drive" and when to start thinking "approach shot" -- and also when to stop thinking "approach shot" and when to start thinking "long putt".

I find that outside of 75 feet, the rim on my putter is too deep to allow me to maintain sufficient control of the throw (and I'm not even using one of those old skool putters with the huge rims). Yes, I can rip a putter 200-225 feet if I really want to, but I'm going to have very little control of the location because the snap is unpredictable on a deep rim. But I definitely throw my putter? (not a putting motion) for any shot where I have a clear look at chains inside 75 feet.

if the wind is coming up behind you it will make the disc go higher and farther, if it is coming toward you it will drive the disc up and back down like throwing it too high, and if its coming from side to side it will make the disc more likely to flex, turn over, or wobble out depending on the throw. you just have to? look up how to combat this, its too much to type

Yea, pull out the Force! Use a very overstable disc when throwing into headwinds, or even crosswinds. Headwinds push your disc up then down often. Throw the disc? low. You can put anhyzer on it but be sure it will come back!! If the wind is at your back, wind can push the disc it up, and you can achieve more glide, it might not flex out untill it's to late too. It's best to use the driver your the most comfortable with, and put extra hyzer on it, maybe more height if your in a field.

I agree the part about keeping the fingers right alongside the rim is somewhat bs it might create some? drag but probably not that much. The part that is real bs is the fact that Matt states his avg drive is 350 and when he does a couple drives then the instructor goes "that's 75ft you gained buddy you gained", even though he drove like 310, and maybe a 330 after that. That's a loss of several ft, not a gain.

from 2:40 to 3:40 is complete bs... I throw with that grip and like that sometimes depending on the shot and I can throw a 500ft hyzer on command. Coda hatfield throws like that and thats who I? got it from. Coda can throw 650+ so i disagree

Most likely you are not stretching properly before you start throwing and / or you are throwing? too hard. I learned that even if I take 20% off from full power it won't affect the distance. Your throwing technique might also be "wrong" in a sense it causes too much stress to your arm.

Keep your wrist pointed up on the follow through. pull your fingers through the shot, a forehand is more in the fingers and less in the arm. if your throws are turning over, you are turning your wrist over too much on hard throws without relative strength wrist snap at the end. a disc golf won't turn as hard as an ultimate? disc, if it does just get an ape or a boss. good luck turning those over.

Well, in Ultimate, it's more beneficial to have your left foot as a pivot, to reach out farther as a righty. But for the pull, it doesn't? matter. I throw right handed, leading with left in both ultimate and disc golf. ultimate, i throw a forehand pull ~100 yards and disc golf around 500 feet. My throw is like swinging a bat as hard as i can with a wind up and an uppercut. just put a disc in your hand with a hard snap at the end.

I did not have the power that most have..ie my drives looks like some folks approaches or even on bad days putts...100-150 maybe 180 tops..roflmao. Some good tips, I am working on my throw but I have only been playing for a month or so now! I get a nice 200-250 on my throws but they are all hyzer I have a hard time getting a straight throw but thanks to this video I think I can? work it out soon enough. I was back in Michigan at the factory and we did film some more stuff for videos. One of the vids we did work on was a "how to select a disc" video. I would imagine that when he? says "windy" he means a cross wind. Straddling offers more stability in a cross wind because puting one foot forward and jumping makes your body like a sail in the wind, altering your shot before you've even thrown the disc.

My accuracy sucks bad throwing straight at the basket. I throw my putts with a huge hyzer so? it comes in from the air above and down at almost a 45 degree angle. This way if I miss the disc is planted right near the basket. The downside is they bounce off the top a lot too lol.

I use the Thumber for about 98.9% of my shots, the rest are backhand approach and your basic putts. I use to mainly drive forearm but decided to give thumbing a shot and LOVE iT! I use to throw around 10-11 o clock and they would all finish at 12 or 1ish but now all my shots are dead straight, sometimes finishing a little? to the right. I've noticed I can get it out there just as far with a lower shot vs launching it high in the air IE: there is overhead and gotta go under.

Loved the video! My friend introduced me to this as a trick shot and I use it in place of my back hand shot which is really, really bad. Since then, and now knowing the different angles of release of either shot I will really start to turn up? the heat. I wouldn't say a hyzer is a fav of beginners. I would say beginners accidentally throw a hyzer because they think of it too much like a frisbee not a disc. In doing so they must play off that hyzer and correct their shots to get it to go where they want(though that's more of? just starting out beginner).

That's usually when you're throwing a disc in the opposite direction of its normal flight path. If you throw a pretty stable disc with a little bit of anhyzer, the disc will naturally helix from right to left. This adds more distance to drives and can be useful when going around trees.?

I'm still fork grip all the way. Used to grip like the last? guy did. When I switched it was an amazing difference, started to feel the disc snap/tear out of my hand more often. Also seemed to improve accuracy somewhat, though I don't feel that snap as often anymore(may be because I don't power it as much as I probably did then). I do hope one day to be able to midrange most holes on my local course like some can, though I can do decent on some of the pro tees.

Ok fellas, I have been playing for 12 years and the most reliable part of my game is my drives.? I throw with a 4 finger power grip. and on a good throw can get a disc between 425 and 450. I saw Robbie Bratten's "two finger" grip and thought "What the heck? I'll give it a shot" My first throw was significantly longer. I was throwing 475 with only changing my grip. I am not saying it will work for you, but my throws are are getting much more snap with far less effort. Give it a go!

@terrestiralsoup When putting at all times, you have a focus point. because i putt with overstable wizards,? my focus point is one single chain link a little to the right of where the pole is (RHBH). If you do the same, just put your focus point along the same chain link you usually focus on a bit higher and possibly at the top of the basket. The main benefits I have always seen for a flat putt are (a) you are throwing directly at the target and do not need to figure in a large swing in the shot (b) a disc entering the chains on an angle has a better chance of slicing through and (c) roll aways are more prevalent with hyzer putts. There is no actual difference in the disc itself, just the plastic. The Soft Banger is truly just that, softer, and that feel is what I like in my putters. From there it is just a personal preference as I can see no performance difference? in the throw of either plastic. So find out which one you like and go with that one!

I watched this video today and then went out back with my basket and started putting this program to the test. Wow just in half an hour my shooting percentage skyrocketed. Yea they were just short 10 - 15 foot putts, but I also tried some much longer ones after awhile. Even my longer putts flew much straighter and I could nick the basket from over 50 feet out more often than not. I can see big results coming from sticking? with this program. Mark Ellis and Discraft videos are a gift to us golfers trying to improve our games. Just started this 30 day program and am on day 5. Lucky to have a portable basket in my house and so far so good from five? paces (approx 11.5 ft) making on average 84 out of 85 putts each 15 mins. Will extend distance to 6 paces today and will stay at this distance until I can average 95%. My goal is to continue program until I can improve to 85% at 10 paces - hopefully by day 30 or 40. Short version: Choose a new putter and get 2 of them. This is to put bad feelings associated with your old putter to rest. Everyday for 30 days go to your local course and putt for 30 minutes. Do it in 2 15 minute sessions so you can maintain concentration. Throw both discs. The second throw allows readjustment. Throw putts you can make, gradually changing your? distance. Before each putt, recite a mantra in your head. "I can make this putt!" or whatever. Stay positive. Don't skip days.

Well when I started out playing I used light discs because they are usually less stable and therefore better for beginners. And I just stuck with them. I am more of a finesse thrower and I prefer the glide I seem to get from lighter discs. But I only have two 150 class discs in my bag right now. Everything else is 165-172. Thanks? for watching.

awesome vid man! i also would recommend using trying out a champion teebird. i know it is a fairway driver but i throw it farther and more consistent than most? of my drivers. it is very easy to control even in windy situations and still does what i want.

Yeah, I had the same worry but then I ordered the Lat 64 River, simply amazing. Their Gold Line plastic is excellent, and the River will amaze you time and? time again. Best fairway driver on the market. 7/7/-2/1. The glide is seriously mindblowing. The Flow is like a longer River with less tendency to turn. If you have a big arm, the River takes like 50-75% effort to give you breathtaking results. Flow = 12/6/-1/2 - speedy even through the fade like a Vulcan but moreso.

Not sure he did.? You would have to call for a ruling within 3 seconds of the throw. I, for one, would still be in awe 3 seconds later.

I have been throwing a ti buzzz for the last four weeks or so and I would have to agree they seem a little more prone to flex out. Throw it on a hyzer flip and it goes long far and straight as an arrow. It's kind of hard to get? a long gentle hyzer from it like a z buzzz

That's fair. We think a review from the perspective of a rec player, and an advanced player is beneficial to other players in the same divisions. Also, a review from Nate Doss on a Nate Doss, Ti Buzzz, is going to be biased. I would say? nothing but good things if Discraft was paying me to.
