You couldn't be more spot on. It's overwhelming sometimes, because you feel you have to explain why things get you down, or you over-complicate things,? or just can't get out of bed somedays.. but then get frustrated with others who don't understand what you're trying to convey. I say that my depression makes me rather Selfish, because it forces me to withdraw from my life and those around me and only think of myself... but you're right - talking helps, and even you acknowledging me, helps x

Think i guess that it just works differently for other people, i've had cbt? since 2007, i'm in a few groups but neither is helping, or even, remotely helping. Have to find a method of coping that works for you i think, i just don't know what mine is. Been having treatment since i was in primary school.

I agree, I did Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and in turn, I am now a? Psychologist (Forensic). It's not a cure, but it helps you to see the bigger picture. You acknowledge all the bad, the crap, the animosity in life - but you also know that there are solutions, courage to see things through to the end, and that better things are coming. There is no single 'heal' to mental illness as the cause for 'mental illness' has an exhaustive amount of variables and affects people differently; it's subjective. You know this ignorance of psychedelics is clearly a cultural reflection and it deeply saddens me. Why? Because I know the awesome potential of these medicines. I don't like to closed minded and anti drug, but if some "illegal" drugs can be? used in the medical field to help mental problems. But when it comes to mind altering it can change peoples minds forever, and turn into mental pain and trigger anxiety disorders. And its not just the people who misuses them either. And you do your research. One of the first uses of hallucinogens after the stigmatizing label 'psychotomimetic' was discarded was in therapy. There were countless successes stories. Only when kids where? getting wasted on booze and dropping ten hits at a noisy party or getting their beer spiked with 800 mikes were there causalities. LSD is powerful medicine and when treated with ample respect and caution it can be the most emotionally liberating and therapeutic experience of ones life.

I'm just worried that if I do decide to talk to? someone about it, that'll just be it for me. Completely. It scares me. I don't wanna be put on medicine. When I think of depending on a pill..., I guess, I'm just afraid it'll alter my mind in some way. And in not a good way. Part of depression is genetic and if you watched the video? or actually looked at the research you would know this. First you find patients with depression who have a twin and you compare the identical twins (sharing 100% of genes) to fraternal twins (50% of genes). Guess what? The identical twin has a greater risk of heritability. Also, an adopted person's risk for depression is greater if a *biological* parent had depression.

Because this guy actually studies the effects of stress hormones on the brain and has seen the results himself. As someone who suffers from anxiety and depression this is more than figuring out psycho-social factors and he tackles the subject better than anyone else. Not sure if you watched the whole? thing but he tackles the monoanime hypothesis and refutes it because antidepressants drugs don't work on everyone.

However the brain is not only the principium of all effects, its state and functioning can be also caused by other agents like organ? health ( tyroid...) and hormone levels. So a brain scan can appear as a global picture, but sometimes is only the visible part of an hidden process.. In that case i just wonder what can be the results of such monitored training...

I find these kind of behaviorist attempts at "curing" certain types of internal states to be quite problematic. Soldiers in war do these kind of? "tricks" in order to be able to kill other human beings without feeling distress, but this can have repercussions later in life. nice research, but darn, i'm not sure how i feel about developing methods for numbing feelings and reactions in people. the world is rather f*D up these days and people should not be desensitized to bad things happening. reminds me too much of 'why you don't take soma when you have these dreadful ideas of yours. I personally am also in favor of natural cures. However, it is important to see a psychologist. A good psychologist will be willing? to work with you if you are opposed to medication. But for 99% of us out there, you can't do this on your own (sorry to break you the news). Cognitive behavioral therapy is popular for dysthymia because it helps make sense of and change the background noise cluttering our brains, often the underlying cause of the depression. Good luck!

My recommendation: Seek help. The sooner you begin to start a path of healing, the more effective your recovery will be. The bad news is that there is no one singular all-inclusive cure. The good news is there a lots of options so you can find the help which most? suits you. I would recommend starting with going to a psychologist to get a proper diagnosis. Also, you should get a blood test to rule out vitamin deficiency or thyroid issues, etc. Good luck! You will get better!

Hi, you might be right in other cases, might not in my case, I am in a financial position where I can live off what I own and do? not need to earn from any other sources. depression played a big part in my life for years before I learnt to turn it around and overcome it, what helped me to overcome it was learning and researching how depression works, 65% of people develope depression from not acheiving there goals they set for them selfs. i know exactly what u mean. i've taken myself off my meds every single time when they stopped working or the side effects just got to be too much. the key is to find a great counselor [which? i've finally managed to do] and get on some meds without the least amount of side effects and ones u can manage effectively. eventually, most likely several years later, you'll be able to get off the meds and be able to manage the depression again. good luck.

I used to cut all the time due to sadness and stuff that was going on at home...and then I finaly desided to change it.? I moved out of my step moms house and got away from that and for a while I still cut a and punched things and sometimes I still punch things but with the help of my gradmother, my father and the person im now in a relashionship with I dont feel the need to anymore sometimes I want to when im sad but I hold on and just talk to my bf instead because he makes me happy.

I am a retired psychotherapist. I treated many people who were depressed with counseling alone. Some had been hospitalized in the past for? depression. Some had received electroshock therapy. They came to me with a desire to work on their depression without drugs. They also knew I would not forcibly hospitalize them. I was successful with all of them. Thanks to Big Pharma hardly any counselors even know how to treat depression successfully or to even do much effective therapy in general.

I have taken these drugs for 20 years and over and over they would stop working. ? I have been off of them for almost a year now, exercising, watching what I eat, making sure I get enough sleep, and taking vitamin and mineral supplements. Guess what? I actually feel better than I have in years, and no side effects. I believe there is a place for these drugs when a person is in a severe depression. They have saved my life in the past. But for overall maintaining...they are not the way to go.
