I think the question requires too much speculation. We beat neaderthals mostly because our ancestors were much better communicators and were able to operate in much larger groups and let them share ideas and technologies better. As per your question I think even the finest modern? human fighters would have a heck of a time with even the average Neanderthal. I was the one who followed him to the hospital and stayed with him until we knew the extent of his injuries.
