i found her entire speech mirrored my life in a very direct way, while being general enough to apply to anyone. i suppose if you aren't creative in the same type of way, and you aren't asking the same questions that she is asking, then you are creating for entirely different reasons and that's why you aren't going to get anything out of it. if you create for a sense of purity or self expression, then hearing someone talk? about transcending cultural barriers isn't going to resonate with you.

Where does creativity hide? Definitely not in this video. Better off watching Never Ending Story to find out "The Nothing". She reveals her influences, but doesn't influence any creative juices in me from just within her herself. Sounds like she doesn't create something from nothing. She finds places and things to write about. The guy stacking rocks & the ghost riders they were more interesting then her. She should've shared her B- story? instead of downplaying her family and ancestors heritage.

I genuinely think she has some very good insights, but I find her presentation? to be somewhat unclear, incoherent, and rather ineffective overall. She didn't sell me. She is also difficult to follow because she speaks without pause or any vocal fluctuations, and throws in too many biographical side comments and jokes. I found her presentation style to distract from what she is actually saying. However, this video and its comments have piqued my interest enough to look into her work.

So very very true. I was waiting for you to catch the fact that I haven't been meditating for the past couple of months lol. Meditate just once and you reach the equillibrium point and stay there for at least two or three days in my experience. Main plan today is to meditate. First day is the hardest after stopping for awhile. Sort of like working out huh? So impressive that you boxed. I remember? karate as a kid and a Tae Kwon Do girl broke my leg LOL

Your advice was good so don't sell yourself short. I really don't know much. I just like to write comments on? youtube. hehe Don't be depressed. It's something I learned in a boxing class. Don't waste time with negative reactions. (I was frustrated that I screwed up the combination and made a growling noise, when I did the teachers punched me.) The negative reaction left me wide open for more problems and it didn't help me do better. Every moment is perfect exactly the way it is.

I find that as well. pretty much any experience during meditation? is a double edged sword. You need to have them to move forward but you cannot become attached to any of them. it's not really about experience on the level of mind. It's not really about anything at all. Although I do believe it is all important in the process of letting go.

I've actually been meditating off and on for the past 15 years, and been to a couple of retreats where you don't even speak for the duration of the stay. What you are experiencing superb, but that state of contentment and happiness is one of the traps of meditation. It's a temporary point that stunts the speed to whatever we might perceive as enlightenment. It's great if you're working and you don't have too? much time for contemplation, dangerous because it's addictive

Yes I've meditated every day for the past 5 years. What I have enjoyed about it is it begins to take shape in your day to day life. What I mean to say is you can see things differently even when your eyes are open not just during the meditation. The labels and conceptualizations of? meditation can drop away and you are left with stillness and space. I hope you are having a great day!

Meditating gets you to understand your own insignificance really lol. From the way you said that I take it that you've done a bit of it yourself. There's three different kinds: insight, concentration and loving-kindness. I've done quite a bit of it the past 6 months. You've hit the nail on the head by saying that it decreases mental? noise. You get to observe all mental and external phenomena with great concentration and that increases your understanding of everything

Meditation is excellent. Although I always got the impression that it gives you the ability to decrease your mental noise and connect to something bigger than yourself. Maybe that's where all of this creativity comes from in the first place? I don't think there is anything wrong with recognizing your own talents? but bragging or getting wrapped up in them as if they are actually serious I do think is a little silly.

Well...people like Dostoyevsky (sure I spelt that wrong) and Tolstoy were very candid and honest about how they viewed the world and they were really well received. You're honest, so you're starting off? on the right track I'm guessing. Wow I didn't know that about JK Rowling. Being a bum does increase your brain activity lol, so does meditation etc. I'd like to write (did a bit of writing a while back), but I need to increase my vocabulary again. But I really can't say that it is because of some special creativity I have that everyone else doesn't have. It comes from empty space and I think anyone can tap into that. Btw has anyone else noticed, that she gave a presentation of 20+ minutes while continually talking, without having a presentation paper or the powerpoint having any sufficient amount of text to remember text for? Pretty impressive right? Perhaps now the critics will see that creativity/randomness is pretty associative with memory and other skill as well ;)?

Nothing I read differed from my views at all. Of course the brain is incredibly complex and you can't determine whether you are right or left brained with stupid online optical illusions. If I simplify it's only because I have 500 characters to write. To anecdotally support what I just said, I heard a few famous math professors? in conversation on TV (MIT, etc). One of them said their weakpoint is geometry, because they are unable to pictures the objects, like triangles, in their head. The others voiced agreement. I was kind of shocked. You can't picture a triangle in your head? A lot of artists, on the other hand, have terrible grammar/math skills. Dyslexics are heavily visual. You will never find a non-visual dyslexic.

Creativity and IQ? can be much more easily understood if you divide the brain into the left and right hemisphere, as naturally humans tend to one side or another. Mental faculties are divided in such a way. Creativity is absolutely a talent and is heavily genetic. As much so as math skills or general intellect. The reason there is only a slight correlation between IQ and creativity is that IQ is largely a left brain function, like math. Art and math are like water and oil.

Video games pose an interesting question because television viewing is an activity that ranks low on challenge and skill. Video games on the other? hand pose challenges of varying degree which seems like it should produce the conditions for flow. I wouldn't describe that as flow, as flow is the optimal sustained attention, where you use your every resource on doing a task. What you're speaking of is you have no brain capacity left for thinking of other matters. Flow for me is when I was a kid and played a video game which would just make 12 hours go by in the blink of an eye, and? I could even forget to eat or go to the toilet, I would forget school work and I would not even notice what happened around me.

I think to feel "flow" calls for preparation for an overwhelming task and/or extremely beautiful experience that is unique in some? way. There have been times when I've been doing some activity with little sleep and my brain kind of shuts of and I just work with absolute focus with a blank mind, hardly even thinking.? I was the top ranked player in armor for battlefield 3 until 1 month ago I realized I had to achieve this mental state of flow through other means, now i just have to find what intrigues me as much as being challenged by 32 people all at once. Should be easy right?The only thing i can even begin to compare with being in a flow state would be certain drugs. Interesting reply. Maybe? you're right. I think everyone has had the experience of being excited and into what they're doing. But most artists who report the experience say they needed about six years before they felt the work 'coming through them', instead of being in reasonable control of what they're doing. Maybe that's elitist, but they all agreed it was more fun and satisfying then sex. Are you having that doing something else?

I "believe" that is the fear of the unknown. When we were kids we didn't had that fear, neither we knew the consequences. Now we do and our self does one thing that is very well programed to do, to protect us. Before you jump from a height you will think all the options, you may pass, you may fall and if any options in between. Always listen your self but not? always trust it. The courage though is something that you mainly can get from your relatives, hard to get it alone, indeed. :)

Hmm...As an artist, I do get allot of negative looks from people just for being "free" with myself and having the confidence to be wrong. Of course, it? sometimes makes me feel insecure but it doesn't stop my creativity. I just accept that in life, both bad and good feelings come. It's funny because, with me, my creativity "stops" when I try to fight off the insecurity. I learned to accept all of myself. That's how creativity happens for me and most other artists I know...

I disagree with his first point in the sense that the people were 'sorry' because? they were afraid of what others would think, that is not true. The medium they used to convey what he wanted them to stifled them because they are not good at using the medium (Drawing). He's talking as if the pictures they drew were INTENDED to look the way they were. If you are supposed perform a piece of music in front of the writer and you have no idea how to use your instrument, you WILL feel apologetic.

Some mildly interesting points, but equally, Tim is doing this with a corporate agenda - the idea of teaching people how to design more effectively so that people will be persuaded to buy more? products and services (that they probably don't need) fills me with dread. I've worked with many designers in my lifetime and I always find it sad that their talents are wasted on something as lifeless as branding and such. What is corporate design? Nothing more than an oxymoron to credible creativity.

In order for an idea? to show "value", does it not have to show an application or use? If your idea is not useful, per se, as having the ability of being used to fuel more thinking that is useful, it must be applicable to the real world. e.g. string theory suggests 11 spatial dimensions (totally useless to us), but it also attempts to explain subatomic particles that we are trying to find. In order to be applicable, they must be compatible with existing convention.

Most people think you are creative or not (eg: you have blue eyes or not). But creativity is a SKILL we all have the ability & responsibility to develop. Hello. I feel de Bono touches on important elements of thinking that can be applied to creativity. Some of these "tibits" have inspired me instantly. I'm glad to hear what he has to say. Apparently he wants to teach people how to be creative. As a creative person, I think he speaks well. He doesn't always try to sell something. Buried in this video is de Bono speaking in a? timeless manner. Not all the ideas are new but as "they" say: some things are worth repeating.

There is a danger in? ones intellectual life is to make pronouncement and assertions that are the absolute truth. Doing so will tend to lock one into one point of view. If creatively you are exploring an idea or a theme, you need to do that for a time, but it is not a good thing to stay there. I can understand Edward's point of view in a post modern world, creatively you want to keep your options and choices open. When you say this is The Truth, it locks up your creativity.

There's sleep inertia if you actually enter REM sleep via a nap, you'll also mess up your 24-hour sleep cycle if you nap in a dark environment, that? might stimulate the release of some melatonin. Depends on your profession I guess, but most people who have monotonous jobs etc don't need to actually enter REM sleep, and can just take cat-naps to revitalize

I find that hard to believe, but at the same time, I've been told that dreams can only be remembered when One's REM sleep cycle has been? interrupted and the individual didn't wake up on their own.
