You can do it with the elbow bending or straightened, it doesn't matter as long as you can keep compress the chest to the depth of 2 in (5 cm) with a rate of more than 100 bpm. Of course using straight arms helps maintain the force and the compression rate, so that the life supporter becomes less easily fatigue and keeps performing? excellent chest compression in 2 minutes before another person can replace him.

nope . they say we waste a lot of time in checking breathing and pulse.this valuable time can be used to do chest compressions,which will help us to pump enough blood to brain till help arrives. there was a study, ? "death by hyperventilation' in that it was proved , giving more breaths can increase pressure inside the chest there by not allowing the heart to beat even if it start working . . enough oxygen will be there inside the blood which will last for few minutes .

That's what I learned? in my CPR class! I also learned that if you're doing CPR on someone and you break the ribs, you're covered under Good Samaritan law, meaning you can't get sued or thrown in jail because you saved the person's life. :) I took a really informative class.

actually the first step should be waking collapsing person up and then call 911 From what I learn, they remove "checking pulse" step because it takes too long before doing chest compression which deliver O2 to brain, and also even medically trained personnel can misinterpret carotid pulse. It's? better able to wake up and feel than not waking up forever.

True, the first step of 'evaluate the victim' was left off (unlike Vinnie's BHF spot), but even then "Worried? you'll 'urt 'im? Better a cracked rib than 'im kickin' the bucket." (and yes, CPR *will* snap ribs, but it also gets oxygen through the body and to the vital organs (and the brain, I guess ;) ) so if you can keep 'the body fresh' until the paramedics get there who either stabilize 'im on site, or transport to an ER that ends up resuscitating him, those broken bones can heal...

Actually, a doctor's great in an operating theatre or a hospital examination room where (s)he has all the tools (s)he has trained for years to use to do more than merely paramedic 'delay death' (let's be honest, that's what we're doing with CPR). ...but on the street? Elaine Acker, CEO of Pets Amercia, demonstrates the proper technique for performing CPR on pets. We shot this video with "Wolfgang" because he's a larger mannikin and the process is easier to see. However, this works the same way with cats. Just adjust the depth of your compressions accordingly (just as you would with an infant vs. an adolescent in human CPR).

You clearly don't? know anything about cardiac arrest. Works same in humans - CPR won't save you. If you're in a VF or VT a shock might work, asy or PEA you're pretty much done off. What CPR does - keeps you in VF for longer and increases coronary perfusion pressure - both facilitating prompt fibrillation. Without the shocks you'll just go from a course VF to a fine VF and then asystole. CPR just buys you time. Now it's different if it's a resp arrest, then they'd have more of a chance.

1 my dog gave birth to a litter of 6 puppies, on the second day, i checked how they are doing and found out that one was unconscious probably accidentally lain over by his mother. the pup is still warm but his face is already pale, i tried doing my own idea of cpr on him, i dont know if i made progress. his face was already starting to go back to normal, but he? urinated, my mother told me that once anybody already urinates that means his dead. so i gave up. i feel sorry for the pup.

Well, I don't know which jokers you were referring to, but I did think that "Stayin' Alive" was an interesting choice for music =P. Puts a picture in my mind of somebody putting a CD on and then "Ha-ha-ha-ha Stayin' Alive, Stayin' Alive." 1 compression per ha (though is that actually 100 BPM =?)? This is my question, too. What if someone simply passed out, and the collapse has nothing to do with cardiac arrest? The video didn't address this situation, and sounded as if it assumed all sudden collapses are cardiac arrest. I'm sure the doctors have a good answer;? I just don't personally know if this would be dangerous and/or inappropriate for, say, a hypoglycemic who stood up too fast or a drunk.

Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is what I was taught in the 1970s. doing chest compression is fine ONLY if? there is oxygen to pump around! i.e You need to infalte the lungs as well.

Sorry, that's just not true. A study was done several years ago monitoring Arizona paramedics - who use hands only CPR? - and they found a higher survival rate when compared to old rescue breath method. There is enough oxegen in the blood to keep a person healthy for a little while. Do you think the Red Cross would have implemented this without studying it first? They are actually very conservative in what they implement, and are several years behind on this one.

Yes they can, if done too forcefully - which is easy in a panicky situation. Compressions should be? about 2-3 inches in a large dog and as little as 1/2 inch, using just your two fingers (index and middle) in a toy breed or cat. You can also cup your hand around a small dog or cat's chest like a taco and give compressions by squeezing with your thumb and middle fingers. Thanks for watching!

I wish Id known this four days ago. Im learning, like alot of people I suppose, after somethings happened. My boy, my best friend Baxter had, the vet thinks it was a heart attack and died. The compression to breath ratio would be? the same (15 compressions, 1 breath, repeat). There are several different ratios recommended by body weight but this is easy to remember and acceptable for all sized dogs. The important difference with a Yorkie is HOW you deliver compressions - only compress 1/2 inch which you can do with your pointer and middle finger, or gently with the heel of your hand over the dog's left side as you cup his ribcage using both hands. Thank you for the tip on Tazlab collars, I guarantee we'll be ordering a pair. Both of them have martingale collars and Mona's jaw didn't even catch the slack part for it to happen. It was a struggle just to? slip scissors between the nylon and for a moment I was scared - my stepdad told me that Dani's body was getting heavier.. Wow, just saw this and wanted to tell you its been a strange week, as I've heard 3 other stories of collar accidents. This type of accident is not uncommon, and there are collars that can help protect your dogs. Look up "Tazlab" and you'll find a safety collar designed to stretch open if it gets caught on anything. Good for people? with two or more dogs that like to wrestle and play. I'm so glad you were there to save your dog, and that they are both okay.

The video makes two very important points that get at your issue: 1) If you SEE an adult suddenly collapse, and 2) they are UNRESPONSIVE, then you should call 911, then push hard and fast on the center of their chest. It is extremely likely that someone who is seen collapsing and is unresponsive, requires CPR. The #1 reason people don't provide CPR in an emergency is that they are afraid they'll do it wrong. It takes all of 10 seconds to check for a pulse and signs of breathing, why don't you? CPR is serious business - you will break ribs and tear cartilage if you do it right. So why not take the 10 seconds to assess? If someone did this? to me unecessarily, I would sue.

When you perform rescue breaths, your only providing the patient with 21% O2 which is what you find in room air. The blood must circulate to the brain to prevent brain death. High quality CPR is? proven to save lives more then interrupting compressions for ventilations. Most people can't check a pulse properly. Their either don't count the right number of times, miss beats, can't find the pulse at all or do the sums incorrectly. The best life sign is to look at the chest and check for breathing rise and fall. They have simplified CPR as it has confused so many in the past. Breaths still help, but not as much as the pumping of blood around the body. I was taught to do 20? compressions to 1 breath.

In my professional opinion, the way I learned it in FF/First Responder training was eight compressions to? every two breaths. This guy didn't address the possibility of the victim's flipper flapper valve in their throat being kicked over the wrong way. If you go to push a breath in the victim's mouth and the stomach rises instead of the torso expanding,gently give a sharp push on the middle of the stomach with your flat hand. Overkill on the compressions, who made it 30 compressions? yikes!

Keep it simple! Check responsive, call for 911, open airway with head-tilt-chin-lift, check for normal breathing for 5-10 seconds, if not breathing it's CPR time... 2-30. ? Give two normal breaths (enough to see chest rise) and give 30 chest compressions at 100 beats per minute. Repeat 2 breaths 30 compressions until EMS shows up. Lay people don't check for pulse. 30 compressions should take about 20 seconds. He is doing them in about 12, nearly 2x faster than he should! CPR time is 2:30

So before starting CPR do we check for a pulse? Ive read conflicting instructions on it. If we feel a pulse but no breathing do we? just do rescue breaths? I'm confused! But I'm sure the 911 operator would be able to help me in an emergency though.
