Interesting vid, one thing i notice is you use the Make up gain but bring the output gain right down to compensate, wouldnt it be better just to not use the Make up gain and boost the out gain accordingly, personally i have always? found Abletons Make up gain on their compressors to be far too high anyway

@DJPeteJames Yea, basically just drops the audio signal overtime, letting you boost the overall? volume of the wave without raising the volume outright. Raising the volume alone wouldn't change the dynamics, but raising the perceived volume through a compression effect makes the part of the wave you select through the knee sound louder. Compressors have other functions for voices, guitar, and mastering as well. Good vid Jason.

@DJPeteJames peak is more sensible to really small (short) audio peaks. FB and FF stands for feedback and feedforward respectively, google that out. The knee setting is to make the compressor action more gradual and not just on-off. If you set knee to 0db, the compressor is going to start when the signal exceeds your treshold? lvl. If you set it to 10db, it's going to start 10dbs before the actual treshold value (but with a proportionally less gain reduction)

@DJPeteJames Those? were just some options I happened to like. There was no real science to it. I basically started with a compressor preset I liked and just left those settings. Feel free to experiment as these settings can definitely make some subtle and not so subtle differences.

you know, you don't have to filter out the noise that much. People can ignore noise. Actually, a low level of noise usually feels quite normal to isten to. But people cannot ignore the artifacts produced by autofilters everytime? someone breaths, it's so annoying!

You can put a limiter on the master channel to help avoid any clipping, but I would keep your mixing volume at a reasonable level? to avoid activating the limiting as much as possible, as you would want to leave overall compression/limiting of your track for the mastering stage. Compression & limiting can be used at any stage, but usually only if its needed. The need can be recognized by the unwanted transients (extreme volume? highs and lows) which make it difficult to hear a sound, voice or instrument smoothly in the music track, this should be used secondary to riding your track with a volume envelope. Compression or limiting is often used after the preamp of the mic input (while recording) to avoid clipping/distortion when transients peak over the maximum level.

This is my question, too. What if someone simply passed out, and the collapse has nothing to do with cardiac arrest? The video didn't address this situation, and sounded as if it assumed all sudden? collapses are cardiac arrest. Its the total displacement or swept volume of the all the engine's cylinders from bottom dead center to top dead center combined. OKay so lets say you have an 8 cylinder engine and the swept volume or displacement of the cylinders frm BDC to TDC are about 500cc thats 500cc per cylinder so 8x500= 4000cc which each 1000cc or cubic centimeters make up one whole liter so there for? 1000x4 = 4000cc which translates into 4 Liters. So you measure through displacement in TDC and BDC oh each cylinder.

the only thing I disagree with is the statement that DV is a "too large for streaming" file. I will say that it's obvious that youtube does reformat the file after uploading but DV is a common export of the following: lossy converters older video editors (or older versions) and some older video cameras (tape based non-HD to be exact) but I still enjoyed and learned plenty of this video. keep? up the good work.

I will argue that HD is HD. True HD is just a marketing term that refers? to 1080p where in essence 720p is still HD. That being said, I dont think any public website will be able to stream 1080p in the nar future especially considering the ISPs dont have the infrastructure for one thing, and neither does the PC market. I have not really re-downloaded an HD video to check if the resolution is just a high quality widescreen, but for all purposes sake it still looks good enough to be 720p

I liked the compressed snare? sound very warm, musical and pleasant but i would've backed it off in? the console just a bit it's way over the top of the dry snare.. IMO it just lacks a more precise blending between the two. Man i LOVE the TubeTech snap on drums!
