In the 80's Shuttle seemed like Shuttle was right out of a Scifi show and looked great on TV. I only wished it lived up to its promise of low cost. It was promised to be be 50 million p/flight and we would have 50 launches per year. It ended up costing 1.6 Billion per flight over 32 times more that promised. Shame on US citizens for letting it continue after the 5th flight. Some people even called? Shuttle a welfare program. Privatization of Space vehicles will help costs in the future.

Every spacecraft before that time had been launched? and tested unmanned, on a rocket that had been launch tested and proven. Not the shuttle, the first manned flight was the first flight. I'd say it had more to do with most video back then being stored in analogue on magnetic tape which loses? a lot of quality. Film is/was much better.... just look at some of the films from middle of last century that have been released on Blu-Ray and look almost as good as a modern day film quality wise (some with "digital enhancement/remastering").

(they have not had the 135th flight yet). The Shuttle's complexity makes it also the most dangerous manned vehicle in history. SRB,s should never be used? with people and we were warned by Von Braun not to use SRB's. The lack of an escape system is not good. The position of crew cabin parallel with the main tank is not good. A winged shaped craft is not an ideal shape in re-entry. Basically, landing like an airplane in the 20 seconds of flight is not worth the cost.

I realize Russia had some deaths in the back in 1967 and 1971when developing a new system. Also the Russian deaths by a ventilation valve and parachute failure, not by a major hardware design failure like shuttle and certainly nothing past 1972.

It wasn't really a black box. Not like the black boxes that are on civilian aircraft. It wasn't designed to survive reentry. It's only by dumb luck that it went through the rest of reentry and landed in such a way that it was basically undamaged. This video isn't even from the? OEX, it was stored on a magnetic tape, like a cassette, that was found by the side of a road. The end of the tape was burned away which is where this video ends, the shuttle and the crew survived for a few more minutes.

Because like all shuttle flights, if the vehicle is hit on the way up or on orbit, the crew is notified. Columbia was notified but nothing? was found on orbit. No one knew there was a hole. Nasa suspected damage and maybe didnt try hard enough to find it, but the crew could'nt find any either. The crew makes the final call on de-orbiting.

I was 11 years, I think, and that day I accompanied my? sister to deliver the newspaper and when she dropped me off back at my bother's house (with whom I lived at that time) I clearly remember seeing big object very bright on the sky followed by two smaller ones and thousand of sparks after it as well. Oh, I don't know why you removed your comment. Anyways, I was only talking about MANNED space exploration. Satellites don't require people to put? into orbit. And yes, I agree with you. We should keep researching and maybe we'll see a breakthrough. But the Moon, Mars, etc are not being colonized because 1) There's no resources worth taking from them and 2) Life in outer space is hard to maintain for long periods of time. Humans couldn't survive for long on the Moon or Mars.

As of now, it is useless. We can't even colonize the moon, much less anything in our solar system. We haven't discovered anything remotely close to us that's habitable or worth colonizing. Even, it faster-than-light travel was possible? (which it may be in the future), it would still take hundreds if not thousands of years to arrive. That's assuming 1) Light-travel is possible 2) There's a habitable planet nearby 3) The mission is successful 4) Life can be sustained aboard the spacecraft etc. etc

Awesome! I too had my doubts about OnLive before I saw it in action. At E3 2010, I saw a personality of Twit.tv fire up Borderlands during? their live coverage. There was absolutely no lag whatsoever. Since then I've been hooked. Not only in the service itself, but in seeing this cloud-gaming/computing/watching/etc... concept work. Steve is such a great modern thinker of our time. Glad to see someone so dedicated to making inventions work, no matter what barriers come up!
