For everyone who wants to get a 5D or 7D, just keep in mind that 7D is not full frame but? the 5D is! It can make a huge difference!

Basing lens choice ...

Basing lens choice off what one person used in a single video is a bad idea. They used each lens for a specific purpose within this specific video, doesn't mean the same lenses should necessarily be? used for everything else in general. You'd be better off with just a wide, a normal and a tele prime. Or a couple of zooms. Also, read up what a tilt shift lens is really designed for and you might change your views on them :) Not just for odd focus and making things look small lol.

This had 30 clips and used 9 different lenses. 70-200 used 12 X 85 F1.2 used 5 X TS 45 used 4 X 200 F2 used 2 X 400 F2.8 used 2 X 24-105 used 2 X 15 used 1 X 16-35 used 1 X 100 macro used 1 X Based on this one should purchase the 70-200 because of its all round utility and quality. The 85 F1.2 because of its? quality and ability to isolate the subject from background and foreground. I have never liked tilt shift effects and even in this video it just creates weird scenes. I like the 100 macro.

I got same issue. 7d or 5d mkii. Trying out both it's hard to decide. For few hundred more right now 5D might be better choice in the long run...or wait for? mark iii :)

I think the native iso are 160,320 etc.. I can't fight the? world on this.. For the years I have been using the 5d I have had great looking footage at those iso's. I use a color card and set my black and white in post and find that helps alot in After Effects.

An article on Magic Lantern, by Matt Howell states "The native ISO's of the T2i, 60D, 7D, and 5D Mark II are the whole f/stops: 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600,? 3200, 6400. Period... end of story. It is not debateable, it is fact". He further states the 160 native iso " is an internet myth that I think was started by Philip Bloom and the Zacuto shootout folks...". Anything to this? Also, how useful are Grey cards in setting white balance on the 5D Mark ii?

I love my 5D Mk II, BUT.... the standard of fit of the? genuine Canon battery grip is appalling! It wobbles and flexes sooo much it is not feasable to mount the camera on a tripod when the battery grip is fitted. Also, the fit of all my brand new L-series lenses on the camera lens mounting flange is very loose and floppy, not tight and secure like all other Canon bodies. Google "lens falling of 5d MkII" and read more on this.

Is this really a USAToday production? If so I am blown away with the incredible? lack of quality - it looks like some old news guy and 5 year old son set out to make a podcast. The footage from the 5d sucks - and I know you can do a lot better and it is not an accurate representation. From what I remember, We set it that way in the beginning because we wanted to limit what was on? the top display to just the items at hand that we were changing so viewers would not get distracted by other things on the screen. Perhaps we should have changed it as we went through the explanation but we got lazy.

Thankyou. In your video you point to? all of the necessary manual control on offer, however the camera that you use to shoot this actual video is set to full auto, causing the exposure fluctuations - this just kills a good video. All the same, it was useful and clear to understand

I traded in all my Nikon gear for Canon 5D Mark ll and just am loving the results! Full frame DOES make a difference. Also agree with Sync 1081 its not JUST the camera..(driving a Ferrari doesnt make you into a race car driver) ...its up to your creative eye but wow pushing the envelope with a camera that has that edge over over cameras thats nice. Happy shooting!!? :-)

Actually, FF gives greater DOF because you can be closer to the subject (physical distance), while on crop sensor you would have to be further away in order to have the same framing. You hv to move back (physically) a bit using your crop camera because the crop makes the frame tighter. Thus, you can be closer to the? object on FF than on crop, which is why FF gives better DOF, if that makes sense...

I agree with what you are saying, but he did say the only downfall was the shorter recording time. Also he could of compared it to an AF100, that would be more of a contender. I just think a? lot of people try hard to justify their 5D's by comparing them to professional cinema cameras as if they got one over on Hollywood for spending to much on their cameras. Very unrealistic.

The 5D is an excellent camera, shoot with what you have. In the end you will shoot better with a 5D if your scene is well lit and you have some good composition. Shooting with $100,000 camera won't make a difference if you don't know what the hell you are doing. You are right there are many advantages cost wise to using a? 5D, and price for performance is great for indies. My one and single objection is that it is not the same as? a $20,000 camera, that I am certain of.

You are completely correct, the only downside is the short recording time. Lets forget color depth, moire, resolution, and rolling shutter exist. The fact that the true resolution of the 5D is closer to 720P and not true 1080P. Lets forget that the dynamic range is less. Lets forget the limitations on grading capabilities and that you are working with a compressed codec.? Lets forget the higher frame rates at higher res. Other than that, yes exactly the same.

haha It's funny that people? with absolutely no knowledge in photography owning pro-equipment while I know there are quite a lot of students who are taking photography classes in university can only afford lowly Rebels and kit lenses. Well life isn't fair after all :D btw if any of you decides to buy a good DSLR make sure you also have enough money to get some high quality lenses for it too. Ideally Canon L lenses or if you don't mind MF Zeiss lenses.

You would be shocked at all the emails and calls from people that have more dollars than talent. More than you would think. Next time you go? to a wedding where a guest has a high end camera, ask him or her what setting they use. "auto" is usually the answer. Last week-my kids flag football practice, one kids mom (docs wife) had a Canon 7D with a $2500 long lens on it. I gave her the 7D training video free as she was willing to try to take it to the next level. That is par for the course

It does your right, I just got the Canon 7D a while ago.. the files sizes are too big to playback properly in vegas.. It is always recomended that you convert the clips to full HD 1080 before editing... In answer to my own question, I now use Adobe Media Converter to convert the .mov files into something that I can work with..? usually HD Mpegs... Its not bad..

Whoever would spend $3,500 on a camera to shoot video that OVERHEATS every 20 to 45 minutes, and then adds on another $4k in? accessories and tries to pass it off as a "CINEMA FILM CAMERA" is INSANE. It amazes me the numbers of people buying these cameras up because they can shoot video, but they have no idea they only shoot 12 minutes of video, and overheat regularly in all conditions. It's been affordable and practical to carry a smaller HD camera and a DSLR for a while now. Some of us like motion photography and some of us like still photography. Nice pitch though. It amazes me the numbers of people buying these cameras up because they can shoot video, but they have no idea they only shoot 12 minutes of video, and overheat regularly in all conditions. Sorry, but if I spend $8k, it will be on a REAL VIDEO CAMERA

As far as I know, the 7D? and T2i share the same 18MP sensor, so I don't think you're really getting much improvement there unless you're specifically after the higher frame rate or weather sealing. I'd go for the 70-200 f2.8 IS if I were you.

3.9? FPS is really slow, especially for a camera that's so expensive. However, the 21 megapixels make up, and it takes videos. A professional Photographer wouldn't choose this over the 1d/1ds Series, they are Professional level cameras, these, while they're close aren't.
