its just common sense of basic insulation....ALL insulation works because of a pocket of air between you and the outside, from the walls of your house to your down jacket, its still basically the same idea....almost all of your insulaton properties are? lost when you compress the material, therefore the backside of your -20 seeping will be useless if you dont have that pocket of air between you and the ground.....check out Big Agnes sleep systems, if you like to sleep comfortably at night!

After reading through the comments it is evident that several people? missed the point of this video. Not all camping videos are survival videos. No, not everyone hauls a tipi and a woodburning stove out on camp outs either. But the point he was trying to make is insulate the ground, and have the proper sleeping bag for your climate, as well as show some optional stuff that you could put into your truck and take out to a site for a comfortable camp since not everyone camps ultralite.

- As with all tinder - my advice is to either carry it with you - so it is "tinder dry" when you need it - alternatively - gather tinder - including birch bark first thing in the morning and keep it in a pocket close to your body - it will be dry enough by the evening to? light your fire. ppl always say you can use "birch bark" to start a file & in most case's thats TURE, however its not so true when its being raning and it's a nighmere to get lit, But ppl argu this point and say it dont matter its wet as "it's full of oil" But in my experience it dont make any difference, i could never get it to light.? so whats your view / experience of this ?

BTW...I use an identical tent/ tarp set-up. Using my 1 man tent drops enough weight from a larger to allow the addition of a tarp to my kit. The tarp keeps the sun from overhating the rain fly in the summer. It helps lessen the sound of rain beating on the tent in? a storm. It gives me a large shelterd porch in wet/snowy weather and it allows me to use the tent without the fly in hot-humid conditions.

While many watch the boob tube to escape the daily grind into a fantasy world of scripted? adventure, those of us who watch youtube do it to escape to the 'real world' of nature when lifes demands prevent us from actually going. Hello again, Ive just finished making the chair material. All sewing done on a machine and reinforced. I used paracord on the top and strong webbing on the botton. The material was from the? army surplus store. Its a strong material used as a casualty blanket (gulp), very strong olive drab in colour. I cant wait to try it out.

Neat, worth giving a try. Think the bottom straps would be necessary to add stability and prevent the seat area from bunching up on the pole. I see your hat is evolving. Back in '08 you didn't have anything but a woven leather? hat band, by Nov. of '09 you've got 2 teeth and a bunch of feathers, by Sep. 2010 you've added 2 teeth and a half dozen or so pins. You could keep your Ferro stick up there too. Keep up the great posts, great to watch.

I? use a Hennessey... Tom Hennessey is always showing them at "Trail Days" in Damascus. I like a hammock with a bug net and a rain fly. They are lighter than most tents and when you get ready to sleep all you have to do is find two trees. Flat spots are a little harder to find.There is a learning curve to getting in and out but once you are situated they are comfy. I was after a tent first but couldn't find the weight at a fair price at the time (3 years ago). Stayed dry in a bad storm...amazing.

Just got a parachute hammock, cant wait for the warmer weather... I plan to do a couple of? thru hikes leaving my tent behind for the first time...setting my hammock up just like this I will suspend a poncho over top giving myself a pup tent/hammock set up.
