You shouldn't have many problems passing through Louisiana & being gay. Compared to Kentucky or Tennessee, we are? extremely tolerant of gays and lesbians. The only places you "might" have problems are the smaller towns in the northern part, but even in those towns they will just make jokes about you.. they won't try to fight you or anything like that.

This is a story I did for the Today Show in 1981 as part of my "On the Record" music series. Yeah I'm 38, my parents told me stories about getting whipped at school for speaking French. Check the guide on ehow - How to speak Cajun French, she gives good suggestions.? I'd also recommend going out to Fesitvals Acadiens et Creoles in the fall, the Black Pot Festival also in the fall, an old school Courir de Mardi Gras outside of Eunice in the countryside. Check out lafolkroots, they do a festival yearly.

I understand what you? are saying. I am proud of my french roots. Proud to be Acadian (Cajun). I know that our french isnt what is spoken in France these days, however, I am not ashamed of the way I speak. It was the way of my grandparents. I don't care for the english, yet I married one. As I stated in a reply earlier. The nuns who taught us were Canadian french and spoke it in school to each other.

Yes, I agree. Louisiana has lost so much wonderful dialects because of the schools here. I remember attending a Catholic school in Church Point, Louisiana, and was told we were not allowed to speak cajun french on the school? grounds, however, the nuns that taught us, spoke french and were from Canada. The order were the Grey Nuns. We were punished for doing what they did among themselves. Speak french.

My wife are from Michigan and we were married in 1994 in New? Orlean's on the Creole Queen,. The captain married us and then a dinner cruise was after. We did end up hitting Mulates while we were there. The consierge at the Hilton gave a us a good tip where to eat and she was right. The food and music was awesome. One of the best times of my life.
