@TWBR88 The singer used to go nightswimming with a group of friends? years ago. He misses those days and misses his friends, and now goes nightswimming on his own and reminisces about the old days. The last verse "You, I thought I knew you..." refers to someone in the old gang whom he thought would be his friend forever, but with whom he's lost touch. Beautiful song, one of my all time favs.

Alright, to clear up the misconceptions regarding my "sausage factory in Tanganyika"-quote: It was a quote from the WW1-series "Blackadder Goes Forth" with regards to Imperial Ambitions on both the English and German sides.? Imperial Germany had colonies in Africa at that time.
