They are pretty much right about electric air crafts. 15 years back electric cars were a joke but it is happening today. More people are slowly adopting electric cars by the year. Along with advancements in green power generation, they start to become a real option. Similarly electric air crafts were a dream 5 years ago and yet Cessna is developing GA electric air craft with 30 mins of air time. Nasa + Google's electric aircraft competition proved they can? be efficient. Matter of time.

...and don't forget the shelved 7J7 "Food Processor" counter rotating carbon fan blade project back in the late 80's!!! Those engines would have to be retrofitted to older DC-9 or MD-80 type aircraft as I cannot? see those blades whirling that close to the runway at TO power!

The area of design focus needs to be in Ultra high capacity capacitors and the correct Hybrid combination of gas turbine on Bio Fuel to Electrical Generators using KERS technology, currently utilized by current F-1 GP race cars. This along with ultra strong and lighter weight advanced composites will get an aircraft of 80 to 100 passengers across the US or 2,900 NM non-stop in 7 to 7.5 hours...try driving a car or taking a train, for example between LAX - JFK in that amount of? time!

Adequate power density cannot be achieved with electric batteries for this concept to be competitive, it will skew your payload/range polar if you're lugging around a giant ballast box? to try to save fuel. Configuration looks like a Hurel-Dubois HD34 copy and paste - a failed aircraft with top speed of 175mph which never progressed past the prototype stage. The whole point of flying is to go FAST, if you're going to go slower, I'd rather just drive or take a train.

Fair enough, great idea, but how is that electricity produced? Burning fossil fuels? -most likely So in theory, the plane may be more efficient,? but there is still that waste product we don't want produced when producing electricity which powers the plane, so the pollution remains the same.

This plane will fly just as slowly as a modern glider. You won't get anywhere fast with this one. Seattle to Vegas will take over 5 hours and will probably need 1 refueling stop.? It's too slow to use the normal class A airspace thus rendering it useless for commercial flight, except the left coast ecogreenies who can afford to pay for these expensive tickets.

No decision has been made regarding the other three test airplanes. Regarding your other question .. The flutter testing we do during Flight Test is planned within the normal operating environment of the airplane so there are no unique inspections required. However, in general, there are more thorough and frequent inspections during the Flight Test program to ensure the airplanes are meeting? requirements. Thanks!

actually, unless someone tied the lock-wire, or installed the cotter pins wrong, its almost impossible for a nut or bolt to be knocked? loose. Every nut, bolt, and screw is secured to one another in such a way that actually tighten each other if one starts to become loose. there are always at least 2 nuts/bolts/screws, attached to each other by lock-wire, sometimes there are even 3 attached to each other. If your wondering how i know so much about this, im an Aviation Maintenance college student

i agree, i like ALL planes from ALL manufactures, but i tend to lean towards boeing. airbus may have sold more comercial airliners but how many planes in total (including military) has airbus and boeing sold, boeing definatly has a much stronger? pressence in the military market.

I don't have enough sight to drive a car and if i passed either of these two in the street I don't have enough sight to recognize them by face. guys, item in "controlls" needs you to check them and say free (not clear :) ) and when the cdu shows you a "preflight status", you need to go to that page, where it gives you the refference to... your case was position initial page... and what it wants from you is (i guess), it wants you to enter your position for your airplane (which you haven't done, the coordinates i mean) into the cdu for the IRS to align? itself. you've missed it from the very beginning :) study better, guys! :)

well, an answer to you. the altitude you set in the cruise alt window is not your initial cruise, it's your destination. if you set 30000 and climb only to 2000 and then descend it will be an unscheduled descent and the plane would know that something's wrong, etc... if you want to climb 2000 and stay there, you just do that, you derate the TO power only for the sake of not being so rough on the engines. if you overshoot 2000 - you're not a pilot? :) and FMC can fly you by it self up to 2000

The only thing I dont understand is why set the pressure and cruise at 2000 ft? What happens when you go to thirty later? Does the FMC set that automatically?? One question I have always had is this: If you want to get to an initial climb altitude of 2000 ft, your N1 has to be set accordingly otherwise you will overspeed or overclimb. Is that done by the FMC? automatically is that why it gives you a particular N! target?

Actually, the A350 has hundreds of orders--not as many as the 787, but it's attracting a lot more interest in the airlines than the A380 is. While the 350 is still in development, it's only a few years away. It's first flight isn't too far down the road, either. I think Airbus' hesitation though is going to be a disadvantage--by the time the A350 hits the market, the Dreamliner will have already been in service for years. Not that I think? the Airbus won't sell, but it'll be late to the party.

does anybody know if a modern jetliner has ever had to ditch over the north atlantic due to a dual engine? failure? I haven't heard of it but it is a concern. IT wouldn't be a nice place to be stranded in the middle of the atlantic. It's one of the biggest fears i have imagined about flying

The A330's most powerful option is the Trent 700 which of 2007 can blow out 71100 lbf of thrust. By comparison the 777 uses the larger Trent 800 with a maximum power variant option capable of 93400 lbf of thrust and a GE ?115B engine option with? a max of 115540 lbs of thrust, holding a world record of 127,900 lbs!! 777 has better range too but probably a much bigger price tag!!:)

(1) One can't gloat over A380 sales considering it's? been on-sale much longer than the 747-8 (over a decade), yet has only amassed a dismal 250 orders. (2) Both the A380 and 747-8 are niche aircraft, meaning only one can ever truly sell okay. It's was the same for the DC-10 & L-1011. Most airlines that could have been 747-8 customers, had already ordered the A380. Get real.

I'm an aircraft painter myself, mine are virtual of course,? but I think it's amazing how accurate those real painters are, it amazes me to see those huge logo jets getting painted, always wondered how those people can accurately place stickers or paint specific parts, for microsofts flight simulator we simply place a photo on the fuselage and draw the paint onto it then we remove it, since real painters can't do that on a real plane, I wonder what their trick is to place everything correctly o_O

I agree that KLM has a very nice sky blue colour. But titles and logo are boring. The Lufthansa "Kranich" (tail? logo) is by far more beautiful. Aer Lingus looks quite nice. With the shamrock on the tail, nice green colour... Yes, it is a nice livery. BUT it doesn´t looks like a world leading airline. I can´t say why exactly. Maybe because it isn´t elegant enough. I like the LH-design from the 70-80´s. That design -a little bit updated- would be fine... What do you think ?

Ofcourse it wasnt a easy day for the pilots flying,but for all you know,the Pilots in this very cockpit could have had a better feeling with this one and also felt they had more control of the situation... so you cant sit there watch youtube and tell exactly what the pilots? did wrong etc... only the two pilots knew what was going on in that cockpit.. only they knew their feelings on the second approach and landing... Doubt they ran out to you telling this was way worse than nr 1 attempt...

and the best pilots block all that out of their minds and focus on the task at hand - as these JAL pilots did.? But I'd bet anything..the thought of '..all eyes are on is' went thru one or both of their minds. This was no easy day on the job. If it were..there would not have been so many diversions.

this is no job? for the fainted hearted...especially in weather like this. It's why so many other flights diverted from this very approach on this very day. But like doctors who have an audience, that 'peer' pressure can play a role to some degree in a decision..and these guys had an audience - that line of jets had been their for sometime carefully scrutinizing each and every landing attempt - and the landing pilots know their performance is in the spotlight (or they're on stage/runway).

You don't need to be in the cockpit to see how badly the plane is being tossed about and which is worst (the 1st or 2nd) ..this is a case where the outside view is more telling than the inside view. However, in the cockpit... the pilots 'obviously' weren't prepared on the 1st approach. And on the 2nd, perhaps they had their 'game face' on..and were gonna set it down no matter what. But that attitude has cost lives in the past. But pilots like doctors? .. have HUGE egos, and deservedly so..

How can possibly know this?? You were not in that cockpit... you cant make a comment here telling the watchers how the pilot made a worse 2nd attempt.. only the two pilots in that? cockpit know exactly what was going on...

I landed a 777 the same day. Winds were reported 25 gusting to 35 from 210 degrees. Runway 16R. There were reports of plus or minus 15 knots of windshear below 500 feet. The aircraft in front of us and the A330 after us went around. No Delta? aircraft diverted, but some took more than one approach to land.

@ 0:45 the sock is seen standing straight out. Sock gets stiff @ 15kts. I'd say the wind speeds are 17, gusting 20-25. No prob for a heavy with that much inertial energy. @yamanote11111 ,you'd shit if? you saw some of the stuff that big birds fly through.
