Making fun of one's own race doesn't give people license to make fun of other ethnicities. There is a difference between race and a nation's culture.? Not all british people are white, for example. However, there are times when I will hear humour at the expense of the british that makes me cringe. The reason for this is that the more british, NZ, Australian, etc. people I began to know on youtube, the more I realized how completely wrong and disrespectful the jokes were.

Oooh that joke would make US audiences REALLY uncomfortable. And if I were reviewing I'd say "er, maybe? not quite funny enough to be worth it"...but I like a guy who doesn't shy away from involving race in comedy. People tend to be conditioned to react to humor that acknowledges race ('less it's white rednecks, of course) in an absurdly uptight/faux-offended way. Like a crime's been committed.

Im still confused as to why people love The Big Lebowski. I watched it 3 or 4 times in order to understand why its such a cult classic but ive still not head around it. I like the characters in the film and i think its funny for the most part, however theres not much of a story and it seems to end? rather abruptly. The films main flaw for me is that the narrator begins the film by saying something along the lines of "you wont believe this story im about to tell you"....and then theres no story

The Big Lebowski IS one the funniest movies ever, it has characters like an old vet whom thinks everything has something to do with war, a lovely hippie which we all root for and then you have nihilists (and a girl with 9 toes) and? some coitus.. I agree, when I was first introduced to TBL by friends in high school (major stoners) they labeled it as pure pot-head humor. I didn't like them and I certainly didn't like the film. Just last year I had the chance to see TBL again, this being some six years after high school and? myself being a bit more mature, and I absolutely loved it! If you look at it critically and beyond the "stoner move" guff, it's a fantastic film about over-the-hill'ers in a crazy world.Genius do check it out!

A friend of mine has a theory with the quirky Coen brothers comedies, that they're always better the second time through because? you know going in they're not going to go anywhere and you just enjoy the ride. I saw The Big Lebowski on a double-bill with No Country For Old Men at Riverside Studios. It really showed up how inferior it was compared to what the Coen's could produce. It's quite funny, but the humour is all centred around the idiosyncrasies of 'quirky' characters and the film lacks a certain depth.?
