i have dropped out the faculty of economics just because of accounting lessons; i was really good at math for economics but this thing... is... something different, i think this is not boring, really a very important science, but why is this? so hard? @WarfareDubstep is kind of right, maybe in my country this is so hard and so many things to learn it has its own special "jargon" and it is in a language we dont use in real life, God! how i wish i could understand and specialize in accounting;

You can't have two businesses in one QuickBooks file. You'll have to set up a separate company in? QuickBooks. As I said earlier, there are 3 entities here - the two businesses and the owner. Each has a separate accounting system and separate accounts.

What's making it so difficult for me to figure it out is the fact that if I add another account for? the 2nd company to my chart of accounts on QB the expenses for both companies will get mixed up. I am trying to keep everything separate. Is it possible / does it make sense to just create a "transfers" account to record this transactions as transfers and nothing else.

There would be three separate sets of accounting records -? one for each entity. The "earning" company would reduce cash assets and then either record a receivable from the other company (if the cash represented a loan to the other company) or reduce owner equity (if the owner withdrew the cash and deposited it in the other company). The losing company would increase cash and either record a liability payable to the first company or record an increase in owner's equity.

how would you record bank transfers between two companies (llc) - same owner and a personal bank account. One company is earning while the other one isn't. To keep the 2nd company going, money is transferred from company 1 to company 2 and also to a personal account? too.

If you can't recognize the importance of learning basic accounting, you shouldn't even think about going into the business field? at all. International Business is even worse since lax enforcement means you don't even know if the record keeping is accurate.

I think you'll need to accept? the fact that accounting info is relevant to all types of business management decisions, no matter what type of organization (profit, non-profit, governmental). There's no avoiding it. Note that this is one video in the series, which covers the introductory course's major topics. Hope they help!

I was a commerce student for half a decade, understood nothing ,but passed somehow. Thankfully got a job in a different field, which involved calculations also - but i was at very ease with the job. Then I understood, I am good with my math. But what confused me was the understanding of accounting language. I was taught long sentences before i could read letters of? it. I actually am not a CPA? nor an accountant...Im a CIA (certified internal auditor) and an SAP Certified Application Associate (ERP System). I have a BS in Finance which does not qualify me to sit for the CPA course, I have an MBA in Financial Services coupled with the CIA instead. THe audits I work on are focused on operations and IT service delivery, which the CIA and SAP background fit the bill. We focus our audits on people, processes and IT systems. I prefer it over financial statements.

They make passing the CPA exam seem like a minuscule step. The CPA Exam? is a 4 part test. Each part takes 4-5 hours to complete. Taking the exam requires fees costing over $1000 just to sit for the exam. More so, most states require 150 college credits(30 more than a standard BS accounting degree. You also have to work for a CPA firm for a year or two to satisfy requirements to become licenses. Accounting is a long road that can be rewarding. But make no mistake. It isn't easy.

Umm... Okay yeah I wish they hadn't portrayed accounting like this. I'm an accountant. Not a CPA. We? don't start out making $50,000/year. I have my bachelor's yes, but even after 10 years of working in accounting my salary isn't $50,000. It's MUCH less than that. I make apx $40,000/year and that is high. I'm seeing $10 and $12 part time jobs VERY regularly. And it isn't easy to get your CPA. You need a Bachelor's PLUS 120-150 hours in accounting. That's alot.

Thank you, I needed this for my accounting class. I'm barely in High School, there teaching us about accounting, but the teacher is horrible at teaching, accounting. No one understands him, he teaches all accounting stuff, but he goes to fast. All of the debit and credit steps, and? even doing the journals, it takes him 30 minutes, to help us, then he let us work on them on our own. We didn't even understand a thing. It took me a whole semester to learn accounting.

Can someone explain me this: I buy apples for 100 in cash to make jams for sale - Dt Supplies Ct Cash. I use all apples - Dt Expenses Ct Supplies....what about jams? how do i enter them if there is no corresponding account? It's only stock to Dt? Or are there two types of supplies - ones being a part of final product and others being just used? to make a product but they are gone, like spoon i used to mix jam and had to bin it as it has damaged? I am confused now.

The hardest part about teaching my senior colleagues to learn accounting is to persuade them they need to devote private mental time to learn. Once they've made that decision to do so, I'd be generous & recommend them Susan's videos. This series beats all the high faluting training programs conducted by the big accounting firms. Recently PwC conducted a program, Finance for non-financial? managers, for our managers. I wish the managers would spent time watching Susan's program instead.

I had an instructor last two semesters on Acct.? 100. He WAS NOT a good instructor, just like you stated "they do not really care much about the students' learning". I failed BADLY and now I'm taking the course again. It was like learning a foreign language. Your comments match some a>>>hole teachers out there. And Susan has done a very good job.
